love ur tone and evrything u play super good i was looking for one player that could play well so i could practice my solo which is this one and ur the perfect one so im practicing with this video lol
I played this last year. It was such a beautiful piece. I loved playing it. It took a while for me to figure out what it was supposed to sound like, because it's just all over the place, yet everything is headed in the same direction, if you understand what I meant. By the end of the year, I played it well and I ended up LOVING Debussy and that style of music. I think you played really well. I love that there's not interpretation that's the same.
In my humble opinion sync will never be 100%, unfortunatly, All info is digitized..But I guess you do with what you have. Have you tried video recording from laptop ? I guess quality of sound so so ?Thanks again and whatever you do please keep the music playing.
Thanks. Yes I had to sync. The RO9 records onto a normal flashcard, which is then put into the computer. I used Windows Moviemaker(WMM), bundled with my computer, running Windows XP SP2. It is probably freeware, but I'm not sure. My laptop has a built-in videocam USB2.0 1.3M Web Cam. I recorded the movie, with no sound input via the computer. WMM lets you import other music files and edit it. Very easy to use. I synced and trimmed both files, then saved as a .wmv movie file.
my problem is that I sit at the moment in the bar of the Fairmont Hotel where I have a great WLAN but very loud music ... so I will rehear it later at home and comment, but your performance of this piece anyway makes me happy,
Well done. BTW the comments I shared on the Koehler would be similar to a teacher working with the "cream of the crop" to help you go past the ordinary flutist's performance. You had the notes down, now you can go past that. That's what most of my lessons as a student were made up of. And I share that with you here on youtube as I don't have any time to play anymore. Keep up the good performances!
Thanks Mark. I am starting to post again after a year of practice and trying to utilise all Sir James' wonderful advice. I hope it is starting to show! I also think the process of doing a video is really helpful in focussing how one interprets the piece, and conceives a performance in totality, Then one tries to get it across. I think this is a reasonably good substitute for concertizing for otherwise-occupied busy amateur flutists like ourselves.
I'm not so sure about that. Sometimes distractions keep the listener from noticing a feature that needs attention. With no video there is less distraction. Auditions for orchestras are almost always done behind a screen. In the past I always preferred no video because if you can get the recording sounding good then you have a great performance! Esp. if it's a performing group. No visual distractions then.
I see what you mean and agree - from the audience's point of view. Logically then, performances should also be behind a screen? But what I was driving at was something different: the need for full-time professionals (Mark and I both work in non-musical fields, yet we are serious amateur musicians) to work up a piece to performance standard. But then what? YouTube is an excellent forum for sharing, and getting quick feedback. Thanks for yours. Andrew
I think it's great that amateurs good in another field can perform nicely as well. I've heard many good amateurs, and many weak pros. A good audio and visual performance would indeed be the ultimate!
Merci! Is that you playing flute de pan on your videos? Lovely work.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Very Nicely done..thanks for sharing this
Do you have then to sync your video with your audio recording using the R09? WHat did you use to do the sync?
What video recorder did you use? did you cancel its audio? Thanks for the tips. Best wishes, be well.

WOW what a great performance of this very very difficult piece.
Debussy would say: I like it.
Moyse would tell you that there could be improvements.
Nicolet would just be happy, I think.
Galway would tell you that the vibrato is not constant enough.
And I tell you: I love it.
Celmar
P.S.: Did you anything else in "that year" besides flute playing ... this sounds so great, I nearly could be envious ...
maybe it is a better flute than mine ;-)

Now I could hear it,
hey, this is a perfect interpretation of this piece.
Even if the "rhythmic integrity", on which Nicolet insists in his teaching of this piece, is not so, I like "your" version very very much.
Thank you! And thank you not to film yourself behind a closed curtain ;-)
