I did this a few times, by accident while trying to keep from falling, and i cant tell you it is a whole hell of a lot better than falling flat on your face.

He kept his front foot at an elevated plane equal to the slip of the stairs and let his back foot basically flop with each step. Not an easy task - but it can be done as shown in the video.
