Exactly, they are there own band. I like the Killers, but I never think about them when I hear the Gaslight Anthem. If I think about anyone its Bruce Springsteen, the driving force that the whole band encompasses. Forcing their thoughts onto you. Classy as hell. Just like Springsteen. :)
This band isn't like anyone I've ever heard before. Although, everyone who likes this band should check out Against Me! Their sounds definitely aren't the same, but they have similar styles and their front-men have a lot of the same charm.
@danogolden mtv is not about music anymore, it's all about pregnant teen moms and jersey shore ! Gaslight Anthem should be on MTV, I still wonder why they call it MusicTV. I know Gaslight Anthem just for a week now.. I should've known them from the beginning !
I know right! Haha. Its his approach, or aura as a musician. He looks like the kind of guy you could walk up to and he would receive you like old time friends.
i don't see the resemblance to the killers...thats what my girlfriend says they sound like, and it makes me die a little inside every time someone says that :(
The Killers are my favourite band in the universe, and The Gaslight Anthem are one of my fave bands...and they are NOTHING alike! Why the heck are people comparing them???
Maybe its because they think this sounds a bit like When You Were Young, but it really doesn't!
agreed, I showed a friend the 59 sound and he's like. this sounds EXACTLY like the killers, I was like dude, helllllll no, I mean the killers are good and all but no, totally different.
I can see similarities between Gaslight and the Sam's Town record, but not many. The vocals are similar in a way. That's what I thought when I first heard them anyway. Not as much anymore. The Killers and Gaslight are two of my favorite bands as well.
Really wasn't a fan of this album, heard this live though and gave it a second chance. It is no Sink or Swim or Senor and the Queen but its pretty darn close.
Best band in a looong time! And if you know this band at all then you know they are nothing like the killers. Sink or Swim is just pure awesome. The 59 Sound is pure genius.
Haha, for me it was the other way around, but now sink or swim is becoming the one I listen to more, and senor and the queen has always been amazing, this band is the greatest.
I saw these at Glastonbury and Springsteen came on for this one song, it was incredible. I'll never forget that performance without a doubt. You must see these live.

lol i like this song, sorta. but why the fuck does anyone care about the Killers being better than these guys, or vice versa? they both aren't that great...at all
uh yeah your wrong the killers are a very very good band hot fuss is one of the best albums in years but the gaslight anthem is another league they are unbelievable song writing sound and energy all mashed into one
oh, and who agrees the 4 most influential bands for TGA are The Clash, springsteen, The cure (mainly alex's guitar stuff) and The Replacements... maybe put bouncing souls in there as well but Dropkick murphys?!?! ... they must be hiding the bagpipe player behind the amps i guess
when i first heard 59'sound i remember hearing the killers thing and so did my friends(most of them now know TGA as 'killers but better' band... idiots) but i think it's just down to similar voice effects on sam's town and 59'sound and the springsteen thing.
There's definitely some Springsteen in the Killers not as much as The Cur ethough. Which is where the comparison with TGA come sin, as they're also influenced by the Cure and Springsteen. The result might differ a lot, there still are comparisons between TGA and the Killers. Only, the Killers have produced one decent album and two megalomanic pireces of shit while TGA has released to good albums.
Brian Fallon sounds nothing like Brandon flowers both bands have a unique style and music, to compare the two is like trying to compare and apple or and orange, also you must be a fuckin idiot if you think the killers are trying to imitate THE BOSS, have you ever heard the boss play shity mainstream dance/punk/electronica music? i dont think so dumbass
Brandon Flowers went told everyone that would listen he had just gotten into Springsteen's ,music just before recording Sam's Town, and that the BTR album was a huge influence. If you can't hear Born To Run in When We Were Young then I don't know what to tell you. That being said I'm not a huge Killers fan and I wish they did a better job ripping of the Boss because it may have meant a better album. Either way, Gaslight is awesome. Easily my favorite new band.
Funny how Brandon Flowers isn't influenced by Springsteen, and has never said in any media that he is though. Brandon is an anglophile, he's influenced by british performers like oasis and pet shop boys. I don't really see the Springsteen in their sound.
If you can't hear the influence, you've either never listened to the Killers, or you've never listened to Springsteen. The songwriting influence is especially apparent on the Sam's Town album.
The Killers played at a Dutch festival this year. They were supposed to play on monday but when they found out Springsteen was playing on saturday, they requested to play before him cause they see him as a hero. Flowers also sang a song with Springsteen. And how can you not hear that Sam's Town isn't inspired by Springsteen?!?
Well they are, they're just a broader band. They're not narrowed down to just the whole... springsteen-vein of music. They're also dabbling in electronica and similar music.
I would say that the Killers are the narrower band. Not to say I don't like them, I think they're great. But they pretty much do the electronica-laced-rock thing in every song. Gaslight's sound mixes rock with punk, soul, blues, gospel, folk. I mean, as good as both bands are, both Flowers' and Fallon' songwriting is straight-up Springsteen, and, musically, Gaslight's easily the broader band.
This is easily one of the best bands in the last 10 years of music. So good.

Perhaps its the lead singers voice? thats why people compare The Gaslight Anthem to The Killers.
This is one of my favourite songs by the Gaslight Anthem :).

Why on earth are people talking about the Killers?
Yeah, they're a great band but yeah... I'm not really one for change, their style is changing too much. Hot Fuss is pure awesomeness.
But yeah anyway, Gaslight Anthem... Well let's just say I'd rather meet GA than God himself ^.^
Been trying to get a friend to listen to 'em, he went go Glasto 09 (im too poor to go (N) ...) and yeah, they were there and he loved 'em :)
