  • how do you make the clown fish breed

  • lol

  • So adorable!!!! I want to cry

  • OMGosh... So cute! :)

  • cool clowns! how big are they at 3 weeks old..? b/c i have a pair of clowns i just got and they are no more than an inch in size so how old would you presume they are..?

  • @doRYEmon

The babies in this video are about 3 weeks old and probably 1/4" long head to tail. It takes about 6 months before they are 1" long. There are other factors involved, like whether or not they are male or female, but that would be my best guess.

  • Is there a way you can show us a video of your tank setup. I have only been able to keep my fry alive 3 days and then I find them at the bottom. I'm thinking my tank setup is wrong. I know they say you can't shine bright lights in there, but they have to be able to see the rotifers swimming ... what type of lighting do you use??

  • @Lighthousebay

I am not currently raising baby clowns, so there's no way to get a video...sorry. But the tank is just a 10-gallon tank with an airline in one corner and a heater. I use a 'twirly' fluorescent light that is in a lamp that can be turned up towards the ceiling. I point it up, away from the tank, and that gives them enough light to see but not so much that they end up swimming on the bottom to get away from it. I keep the light on 24/7 from the minute I put them in the tank.

  • What are your directions for the rotifers in a detailed manner??? I would like to keep a bit of the offspring alive! :)

Is it ok to use dried rootifers?

  • They're so cute. Those are my favorite types of fish ever since ive seen Finding Nemo

  • amazing, can i ask you what you feed them to start with, is it possible to do it something simple like baby brine shrimp? raising/buying live rots is very time consuming

  • baby brine shrimp are way too big for them when they are first born. You have to start off with rotifers...sorry. But rotifers are really simple, if you do it the easy way. Use glycerin-free phyto paste, a bucket, no air, and a cover. You will be amazed at the results.

  • this is so FLIPPIN CUTE!!! They are like miniture clownfish unlike other fish fry that don't look like their parents till much older! xD

  • aww there sooo cute.

  • plz answer me...h0w old that clawnfish can make a babies??

  • Clownfish usually have to be at least 1.5 years old before they will start laying eggs, sometimes longer. I have some that are 5 years old and just started laying eggs a few months ago. It just depends on the fish, I guess.

  • well a clown fish is hard to breed but they fuck and have babies how else do babies get borne

  • hey i am breeding clownfish and have onyx percula babies on day 20 and they only have one of their stripes. is that bad

  • percula clown fish dont sell for £40-£60 dude what are you talking about lol , i would say £12 - £18 for a single one

  • was it hard to raise these fish

  • Those look like Clarkii clowns...

  • would a mandarin goby eat or harm a cleaner skunk

  • Absolutely not.

  • will there be any chance you'll sell them?

  • Yes, I sell them all the time..usually locally though.

  • i have a flase percula and a tomatoe clown fish how will i breed them they are alone in my new 55 galllon

  • you cant mix spiecis with clown fish

  • A percula and a tomatoe clown will not pair up together...sorry. They will not even see each other as the same species.

  • wow soooooo cute love this :D i want marine fish!!! so bad! i have fresh water i love them but i want marine ones!

  • Wow, Thats all I can Say...

  • aww

  • hey is it ok if i put maroon, orange and black clowns together?? i started a new saltwater tank and currently has no fish, only corals. so i wanted to get some clown fishes. can u help me?

  • maroon clownfish are very agressive and it will kill the orange and black clown (percula or ocellaris clownfish). I'd be glad to help you in anyway I can.

  • oh....thank you...so marron clown is out the pic. i'm planning to hav clowns, scooter blennies and some blue cromis...how big shud the tank be if i put these toghether...can i even do tht?

  • You can definitely do this, but the scooter blenny will take some extra care because they usually only eat the amphipods in the tank. It can be done, but you need to know what you are doing and the tank needs to be established. Let's start chatting via email and I'll see if I can help you out a little.

  • r u selling them how much

  • I have sold them in the past but I don't have any right now. I should have some in about 2 months. I sell them for $10 each.

  • what $10 down here in the UK they go for £40 to £60 thats about $80 to $120

  • Wow! That's expensive. Currently, $1 = .68Euro's. So $10 = £6.80. I could make some decent money if I could get them there alive. I have another 200 that are hatching tonight.

  • ohh wow thats awesome! how can you tell between male and female? i want to breed them too!

  • I'm sorry for not posting sooner, I just didn't notice your comment. All clownfish are born male. When they get old enough, one of them will change into a female and she will get significantly bigger than the male that she has picked. If you have more than two in the tank, the other males will be escorted away, by the female, to the other side of the tank. If the female dies, another male will step up and become the female and the process starts over again. It's all very interesting.

  • wow thats so awesome and how done a lot of research! i'm kind of deciding whther to have a saltwater setup or freshwater but i've been told by many people i don't have enough experience so i'd be wasting money and my fish will die with lack of knowledge! =(

  • if ur starting...i'd say start wit freshwater.... get used to the feeding and ph level readings and all the maintenance crap and then get urself a saltwater tank.

  • LOL..oops. You didn't mean that to be funny...sorry. ;) I couldn't keep a betta fish alive, so I moved into saltwater instead. I think I killed 4 betta's in 6 weeks. But I know that I'm not the 'norm' in the saltwater world. I spent a 1.5 years studying before I even bought my first tank because I didn't want to mess it up. Then another 6 months before the first fish went in. That was 5 years ago and my first fish are still alive. (I really should get a video of my reef tank on here sometime.)

  • Oh, I should say one more thing...most likely there is a marine aquarium club in your area. If so, you should hook up with them to learn, see other people's tanks, get help and save money.

  • its not the ph levels you really need to keep an eye on unless you have massive swings, the important parameters are ammonia, nitrite and nitrate(although te latter isnt very toxic to fish in low levels)but yeah def.start with freshwater!:)

  • I agree

  • intresting and wrong i am afraid i have been breeding and raising clowns for a number of years now, if the is a group of clowns there will be a male and a female which are the two largest and the rest will not have a sex. sorry just thought i should state the truth.

  • I'd be interested in some documentation to back up your comments. I have been raising them for a number of years as well - which doesn't mean that I know anything really. It just means that I've read alot and learned from experience. I've just never read your theory and would be interested in learning more.

  • its not like they don't have a sex. they r all males but they stay juveniles. wat she said is actually true. all clowns are technically male but wen they are in a tank one of them becomes a female and it will form a pair with one of the males. i believe it is called hermaphroditism

  • Actually, hermaphroditism is what cleaner shrimp are...both sexes at the same time. A clownfish is never a male and a female at the same time, however, now that you mention it, I guess they would have to have the female characteristics in all of them from the beginning, they just aren't available to them. Okay, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about But...the term used is metamorphosis. The female, who once was male, metamorphed into the female and can't go back to being a male..ever.

  • dam thats small

  • The only mistake in this video was no size comparison was done like putting up a dollar bill or a nickel against the glass.

  • That's true, I didn't think of that. I guess I thought that the heater with the electric power cord coming out the top was good enough. But if you don't have fish tanks, you wouldn't be familiar with the size of a regular heater, I guess.

  • That is the CUTEST thing I have EVER seen!!!!

    Tell them I say hi

  • aww they only have 2 stripes lol and adult clownfish where i live r lyk $15 and true percs r about $25 and blk ones r about $40

  • They are born with no stripes and then develop them over time. It takes about a month to get all 3 stripes. These guys are about 2.5 weeks old.

  • Adults in my area in maryland go for $49

    Really bites!!!!!

Wish you lived near me in Marylans so i could pick up a few cheap ones.

    Cute babies!

  • That's just crazy.

  • Do you sell these to your local fish store? If so and if you dont mind me asking how much each do they buy them for?

  • Sorry to post so late. I have not sold to local pet stores, but only to people in the area that have tanks. Generally, a local pet store will give you 1/2 of what they sell them for and it varies from state to state. Here in Utah, they sell for around $20, so a store would give me $10. I usually sell them for $15 to an individual. I have figured out that each time I raise a batch of these, it costs me about $50, so I need to sell 3.3 of them to come out even. :-)

  • They are so cute! :D Very interesting info there Amie.

  • i tried, but mine died in 2 days after hatched. May I know how to keep them alive? What to feed them? how to keep the water current movement, while avoiding these babies being sucked by motor? Thanks. Let us save the marine.

  • you can keep water movement with an air stone, and probably do daily water changes, and removing dead bodies.

Well that's all I can think of.

  • Thanks.

How do you feed them, while they are just few days old? Feed them plankton, which we can find them in those greenise water?

  • Not really sure what you can feed them. There are plenty of articles on the internet if you search around. I bet you culture something like rotifers or green water.

Good luck! I'm going to try my hand at breeding too :-D.

  • "You are going to try breeding"???

I thought you've successful with those 3 weeks old babies?

  • That's not my video...

  • oh I see. haha... at least the video has given me a hope. (after my clown fish babies died after 2 days)

    thanks. :)

  • Thanks sandiegoryu for answering okaong for me. Obviously my heads been in the clouds. The best thing you can do is buy the book, "Clownfish" by Joyce Wilkerson. Her book covers just about everything in how to raise them. Then use the internet for additional/new techniques. They are alot of work the first 10 days and after that, they aren't too bad ... just extremely cute!

  • OMG they are so smalll!!!!!and cute!!!!!

  • so how many were able to sal out of all off the eggs

  • I was only able to save 25 out of about 200 eggs.

  • they r cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my most favorite fish! Thank you for the nice video of the babies! :)
