  • I burst out laughing when they were talking about the "Reluctant Samurai"! If you think about the history behind samurais and bushido, adding an adjective like reluctant just seems so odd. It's like titling some sci-fi alien movie, "The Unwilling Invaders". Still I think her dad was better in the Japanese version.

  • I just can't get over the fact that "Mark" is supposed to be thirteen or fourteen and sounds THIRTY.

  • "ahh this is a pen!!..." XD

  • Engrish becomes Spanish in the English dub? It's just like Azumanga Daioh, only not as funny.......

  • @otaking3582 Azumanga Daioh will always be more funny than anything dubbed by 4kids.

  • 4kids left in the fact that Ichigo's dad was holding chopsticks in that first scene.

  • The english version of the ESL scene makes Zoey sound so snobby. Were as the Japanese one Ichigo, actually sounds funny cause she cant speak english and shes in an awkward panic, it looks like a realistic japanese experience. But her reaction is just "cute" as you would say were as the Dub makes it sound like bullying, Zoey acts as if the spanish girl is stupid or something just because she cant comply with western ignorance. I mean, she isnt even trying to understand unlike the "pen" line.

  • thats one young looking dad

  • 1:23 chopsticks! doesn't 4kids edit those to american utensils?

  • "This is a pen"

What came first, Hetalia or TMM? One's parodying the other...I think TMM came first... :D

  • @RusCan10

The Tokyo Mew Mew anime first came out in 2002 so Mew Mew came first. But it's not that they're parodying each other. Their both sort of making fun of the fact that "This is a pen." is one of the first things Japanese kids learn when attending English class XD.

  • @RusCan10 IIIII don't get it. Maybe it's because I don't watch AHP? Can you fill me in, onegai?

  • @bishiewuvr

In Hetalia, Japan wants to learn English, so England/Britain decides to teach him. The first thing he teaches him to say is "This is a pen". Japan asks him if it's something that fluent English speakers say often. At first England says that it is but then he admits to himself that he's never said once in his life .

It was making fun of the fact that that sentence is one of the very first things that kids in Japan learn when in English class, but it's nothing that will help them XD.

  • @HikaYagami HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Ahhhh that's good. Okay, I get it now arigato gozaimas~

  • I don't get how they don't see she want ryou.

  • how did deep blues will turn into wingdinger...

  • whoah.

at the end with that beep, i thought my smoke alarm was going off and ran outta my room.

  • @Shashanyaara lolz

  • Ichigos dad = Amazing.

  • NOO! WHAT DID THEY DO TO ICHIGO- I mean ZOEY's DAD?

HE WAS AWESOME, AND FUNNY, AND COOL!

    Now he sounds stupid...

And Mary I swear, had the best english voice I have EVER HEARD in this anime.

Then they made her spanish which, I'm not mad about, of course they would have to change what language she spoke from english to something else in an english dub. BUT WHY IN THE HECK DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE ZOEY TALK TO HER IN SUCH A STUPID WAY? RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!

  • ...b-but Ichigo's dad IS cool...

  • Samurai movies? Uhh 4Kids... Samurai are JAPANESE!

  • WINGDINGER!

    roflamao!!!

WHAT did they do to kisshu lol

  • Ryou/Elliot: Senorita

Riviera: (perfect english): Thank you, Zoey.

Elliot, you have wasted your time!

  • THIS IS A PEN!

  • This episode made me angry later on (the dub i mean) especially on the part of Dren's 'wingdinger' line.

I had the misfortune of seeing the dub before the sub.

BTW my friend explained the 'this is a pen' part. The subs are wrong there, she's actually saying 'This is Japan.' which is one of the first English phrases Japanese kids learn.

  • I doubt it. If that were the case then the other dubs that came from Tokyo Mew Mew would've said it. In almost all of them(except the Italian dub where she said something in Italian but got misinturpreted wrong), she says "This is a pen."

  • @HikaYagami Also, to add to this, The kids would be saying "Nippon" not :Japan" so it wouldn't sound like "a Pen" anyways.

  • @NOTMEEPJINXCHANFOOLS

    No,

They'd be saying 'Kore wa Nihon.'

    =/

  • I dont get it wouldn't she expect not to be understood talking english in JAPAN? XD

  • "Wingdinger"? What the heck?

  • Maybe I'm just crazy, but Ichigo's party dress in this episode kinda reminds me of the Water Pretear's outfit from Pretear. Anyone else think so?

  • Amazing they kept the scene where Ichigo's dad tries to pass himself off as a samurai badass.

  • 'Wingdinger', 'Boze', and 'Me no Understand-o' xDDD

  • Boze is actually a shout out to Bose speakers. My mom has them on her computer actually XD.

  • ik- i have some too. xD

  • @SkinnyJeanz13 I'll use "Me no Understand-o" every time i don't understand whatever's going on xD

  • I just noticed that, when Kisshu teleports and leaves, he creates that weird pink aura. That never happens in the rest of the series. 8O Trivia!!

LOL, lame moral of the day. XD

  • "uhh this is a pen"

did she just said that in english?

ok that was a big confusing

or is that how you say it in japaense?

  • err so she speaks in english in the japaense verison

but why could she speak japanese in the english version instead of Spanish?

    it would be so easier.

  • Read the other comment that I replied to someone else with.

  • Wingdinger? Wait, what did he just say LOOL.

  • To be honest, I like the spanish scene in the dub, I found it interesting, 'We No Understando!' along with the music made me giggle!

5:30 - Corina sounds like she's saying 'I'd love to help, but I'm on my fifteen'? =S

and the shots of Cafe Mew Mew or other locations added in when not originally intended is a common hollywood trait, not really used much in Japan, its called the Kushelov Effect. Again I like this change =)

Dren really pissed me off in this episode though lol

  • 'Corina' does say that. She means 'I'm on my fifteen minute break'

  • @PezTheElf She means she's on a 15 minute break. Hence, she's on her fifteen.

  • what font did u use for the subtitles?

  • i cant help but laugh when he says wingdinger

  • I seriously started laughing hard at the subtitles 4Kids used whenever "Maria" spoke. Seriously, 4Kids, you really don't need to use giant block letters. And holy crap, could they have made the scene with "Zoey" trying to communicate with her MORE offensive? "Me no understand-o! Name-o Zo-ey!" What the hell, she talks to Maria like the woman's a sub-literate caveperson! Were they aiming to piss off America's Spanish population?

  • i've said so many times

    4kids=racist bastards!>:[

  • @ElFreakinCid Maybe it's just me, but I'm Hispanic and when I first saw that scene I thought it was hilarious XD

  • Hey hey at least they kept the scene with the dad and the Japanese attire with the cherry blossums, CULTURE!!!!

I love Zoey's mom's line of "You should dress like that more often dear," it made me burst out laughing.

All of Dren's lines are so lame, seriously, I hate how they screwed up Kisshu. He's my favorite character, and they make him look like a homosexual which goes against the plot! URRGH!

  • Well, cherry blossom trees are commonly seen in America nowadays, and they passed off the festivalwear as a ronin outfit and samurai films are popular in America, so...

  • its ALWAYS has to be spanish huh? why cant it be JAPANESSE??

  • Well, Mary Mcguire isn't exactly a Japanese name(it's Irish on origin), so it wouldn't make much sense anyways. Since I don't know anyone who can speak Irish, I'm planning on making her speak French in a fandub since it can be a French/Canadian last name.

  • well i meant when in the japanesse version, she speaks english. and in the english version, she speaks spanish. it would have been cool if she spoke japanesse in the english version. thats wat i meant.

  • Maybe if it was the 4Kids version.. It wouldn't work in a faithful dub though since the characters would be living in Japan. It would be weird for Japanese people to not understand Japanese.

  • yeah thats true! it would have been funny:P

  • Ichigo looks like her mom. =3

  • lol "Wingdinger?" *smack!*

  • ichigo's dad is acting like a teenage

  • This is a pen!

  • Even in English dubs, Keiichiro gets no respect!

  • I always did believe that sentences should be altered SLIGHTLY after translation in order for them to make sense...but only slightly they should still keep to the idea of the sentence just sort of an explanation of the ideas of the language

  • Sure, any sensible person would or the lipsync wouldn't work. But the clips with dialogue change I put up were altered a great deal, even changing important parts of the episodes(like instead of mentioning Deep Blue, he came up with the wing-dinger line).

  • O.o Wing-dinger? XD That bit made me LOL so much! Why ruin such a good anime?

  • I know. PAINFUUUUL.

  • @princesskemo 4Kids likes to change the entire context of the dialogue to americanize it or add stereotype to the scenes.... uragh.

  • im gonna do TMM flash movies and naruto flash movies.

  • wow, that moral was lame -_-"

  • @Esbreonforever At least it wasn't a moral about partying safe XD

  • @DarkMuffinz17 true xD

  • What is ichigo saying "This is a pen for"?

Lol, i love that episode so much

  • this is a pen

  • @CrazyCat1357 I think it's because it's one of the sentences she probably learned at English class at school.

  • I think she's trying to say the cafe is open. XD
