Ok, I fence and I think if they did a little thrusting there would be more hits. not to bash on kendo. just saying that there are more styles than just over head beat downs. really good vid on kendo. keep it up.
ok Mr ki5ngau, you are right i don't know alot about kendo, and i was making a observation on the style and methods. i clearly stated that i was not bashing, I'm sure you get some sort of thrill in telling people to stfu on youtube, but how about informing me on the rules and methods of kendo, like brainsquirrell and msalazarx did, insted of just being nasty about it. ok.
Ok, let me explain it to you, we are seeing two kind of excercises, first Kirikaeshi, is a warm up to build speed, acuracy and stamina, the seconf kakakigeiko is to build openings ans speed in combats (shiai). Remember that katana is a sabre, its supose to do cuttings mainly, there are other excercises in kendo to do tsuki (thrusting) search "tsuki kendo" to find examples.
monkfu12, kendo does have the strike "tsuki" which is a thrust to the throat. Unlike fencing however, kendo is generally more concerned with the quality of the strike than with the number of hits. In fencing you see points given for someone just barely tapping the guy on the arm because they have an electric jacket on. But in kendo, only a decisive hit counts so we focus on that more. But this video is just kirikaeshi which is just a warm up drill, so its not what real matches look like
They do thrusting in Kendo, called tsuki. They also do more than just head cuts, there are men - head, kote - wrists/forearms, do - sides. There are also different stances within Kendo, there is Chudan, the one you ususally see, then you have left and right Jodan... To be honest I can't be bothered listing. You can even use two swords (nitto), if you wish.
This isn't aikiken, it's kendo. If I'm not mistaken, aikiken doesn't use bogu, right? If so, wouldn't that have been your first clue? As a kendo practitioner myself, I'd say that these guys are doing great.
Wow, it is REALLY FAST kendo! I like it.

Please, if someone could explan, why is yelling or kiai so often used in kendo?
3Dtrauma 2 years ago
because doing that, manifest their spirit and will. so they have to do kiai in every strike.
