People don't really understand what "auto-tune" is. Auto-Tune is a specific product (one of many) and it is what T-Pain uses, and sounds like a machine. It is what bounces around from note to note. You can change the settings so that it "glides" between notes, but it is still very noticeable. But then there's "Melodyne". It is in another league. It is meant to sound real ... leave in natural vibrato, and nuances of the real voice. On-the-fly or in post... that is what they used.

In San Diego they had huge balloons filled with confetti and flashing LED's that they threw off the stage and bounced around while they played Through the Desert Alone.
