Many people threw a temper tantrum when they learned Robert wouldn't be reprising the character for the 2010 re-make, but Robert stated in interviews that he was fine with someone else playing the character, since it was a re-make of a movie he had already done, not a new installment in the Nightmare series canon.

I'm willing to give Billy Bob Thorton a chance to play the role. Robert was is and always will be Freddy, and the remake won't dent him in the least. He's forever remembered. THe thing is that I don't know why he wasn't taken back. He's only 61. It's hard to do the laugh right. I've tried numerous times and still can't. Freddy's not just like Jason or Michal.
