Never seen this translation. I own the original cartridge and the whole tone seems entirely different. It's been years since I've played it, but there are distinct differences already....will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

I've never seen a directly translated version of game. I've been a fan of this game for probably a good 12 or 13 years and I knew stuff was left out of the NA release, but I never knew they left that much out. After only the prologue I'm already ticked that so much dialogue was taken out. What they took out kinda helps with the story.

The controls you asked about, custom is how you change the controls. Multi allows you to play with 2 players. Useless in your playthrough, but fun otherwise.

In my opinion J2E is a good translation but the fan hack does include some jokes that may not be accurate. Its also well, a hack. The next best copy is for the PS1. The PSP would be next best since its 3 games in 1. then the DS copy since it adds extra abilities. The bomb ring for example has lots of translations such as Star Signant and so in short Ps1 is most closest to J2E also CId is not in FF1

that's weird, i've never seen a translation where it's Cain and not Kain, Kain is definitely the canon spelling of his name but oh well i can deal with it although he is my favorite character in the series

Omg I can't believe you've never played this game it's been released on SO many consoles. I really wonder if this is square enix's favorite game in the ff series because of how many ports it's gotten I mean it was originally on the snes then theres a port for the ps1, gba and then wii and then theres a full ds remake and there also a psp version, I mean my god that's a lot. That being said I'm looking forward to this lp.

single and multi means you play either by yourself or have someone with the second player controller control certain party members that have been assigned in advance. a common formation is front row player 1, attack attack attack back row player 2, long range attacks, healing or magic.

Having played the SNES cartridge so many times that I practically memorized the script, I notice that this is a vast departure from the original in dialogue. And that is a great thing so far. Just that whole backstory from Kain alone is massively revealing. I'm so used to seeing his name spelled with a K that I can't spell it any other way.

Actually Cid was in every FF game except the first! But anyway very glad to see you doing this game! I love this game despite the fact that its ATB system is slightly glitched, the characters (including the enemies) dont always go in the order that they should and can really mess you up. This actually prevented me from beating the final boss for quite some time...

Final fantasy IV. Boy oh boy this game is amazing. It's not my favorite however. I played every Final Fantasy except for 14, 11 and 3. X and X-2 along with this and 6 are my favorites. X is fantastic.
