Awesome! I learnt this choke in class a week ago and have already pulled it off twice in live rolling. It's amazing but most people on the bottom of half guard turn into the guy on top effectively setting themselves up for the Darce.
Quick question, if the guy on the bottom manages to grab you hand and stops you feeding your arm all the way through do you transition to something else or try to free you hand?
@JosephA1687 no matter what the move, unless I have him completely locked in place, I transition and move onto plan b. I don't waste the energy and I always have something else in mind that I can easily move to. In mma, i would let him hold on and belt him with the freehand
i've used this choke for a while its very effective and sneeky but lately i've had trouble finishing it and i end up just neck cranking on accident.
i was wondering if you could give me some pointers on how exactly to finish the choke once you've grabbed your own elbow pit?
once i'm at that point i move my body around and begin to squeeze and drop my hips but it just puts pressure on the side of the guys neck instead of choking, i'm not sure what step or adjustment i'm missing
@psykojojo i'm not sure what elbow you mean. is it the one that my hand is grabbing? when i finish i make sure the guy is still on his side like what your doing at about 1:20 and then yea drop hips and squeeze. maybe the guys arm isn't across enough? like when they defend they sort of tense up try and close their armpit. do you think that might be it?
@TheVindicatedOne Could be, the most important thing to remember that most people forget (even vets) is that you have to make sure your arm is all the way through before you try to choke, most people get excited and start cranking before they are fully in place. Push the head down and drive your arm as far forward as you can, its the same with guillotine chokes and any other choke, tie it up properly and you'll get it, rush and half-ass it and you'll just use up energy
@psykojojo got it to work last night :) its alot harder with the gi on, i was forgeting to drop my shoulder to get my hand further in front of their neck, so basically my arm wasn't deep enough, way harder with gi on
@TheVindicatedOne also dont be afraid to hold it without squeezing because even as you hold it in the position his neck and muscles will start to get tired and he will get less and less blood to his head finishing the choke, ive spent up to about 2 mins in that posistion without squeezing properly (so i dont get tired) and the guy eventually starts to slowly fall unconsious.
@lusby16 thats what i usually do, but i end up getting frustrated and mounting them or changing and look for something else, maybe armbar or kimura that arm.
you would be surprised how often you can hit this from side control because everyone know first instinct if your on bottom is to turn towards the guy and start working hip escapes. there is often a set up for this a guy at my gym named nate uses this alot.
Whats the difference between Guillotine,D'arce,Anaconda and Cobra chokes?

@TheVindicatedOne are you moving that same elbow (the one with the pit) up once you have the choke locked?
