I know how hard it is to help parents that are not obsessed with stuff, they are POSSESSED by it. It's an uphill battle, even if you live in the same town. Trust me, it's like taking heroine away from an addict. And just throwing stuff out doesn't work. It's a patch, not a cure. This is OCD behavior, but not one bad enough to be on the radar of most psychs. I've tried.
Chubnostics should keep his mouth shut until he has walked a day in the shoes of a COH. Your comments are so ignorant as to what level of mental breakdown this disorder does to people. HoarderSon posted this to show others who are in the same position that they are not alone. You are clueless as the the level children go to to help their parents. Roadblocks from people who believe that "competent adults" should be able to live how they choose awhile simultaneously blaming the adult kids.
neglect.......how could you let your mom sink so low? I suppose you were living out of the country or something?
My mother tends to hoard things as well...........every so often I'd just go in a throw a bunch of stuff out, she always got pissed but she got over it eventually. After awhile she stopped worrying so much about throwing things away, because she knew that I would do it if she didn't.
She wasn't as bad as some I've seen but it was bad enough, take some initiative, be a man!
So being a "man" in your opinion is disrespecting the wishes of a assumingly competent adult in their own home?
If your mom just "tends" to hoard things, you have no idea what Hoarderson (or others you have offended with your ignorant comments) was/is up against having a parent with this full-blown illness. You really should educate yourself before passing judgement on others.
keep preaching.....where the fuck were you? out of the country? A mess like that takes a long time to build up, it's sad that one would let their mother sink so low and not intervene until she nearly dies..........(slow clap)
Then you post a video like it's some sort of public service announcement. Did you sleep better after you made these two videos?
Grow some balls....go in there and just throw everything "extra" away, she'll be mad for awhile, but mad is better than dead.
I had to comment because my mother did the same thing, moving from her bedroom to mine. Things really began to get bad when I (the youngest child) was truly out and married. This was partly hoarding and partly allowing animals to run rampant. Her old bedroom became an absolute dump. When we finally got her to agree to move to a new, smaller house, it took us months to get it cleaned out. A large dumpster, all-day bonfire, and about 100 trash bags later, it was basically emptied.
I can relate to this as I have this compulsive cluttering/hoarding disorder myself. I am happy to say I have sought help for it two years ago through a 12-step program and am recovering from this behavior. Before I decided to get help, my bedroom and other living spaces were well on their way to looking like the video you shared, as well as others I have seen on here. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Jaclyn, Of course, you are right. They did it - not you (or me)! I couldn't clean the mess, but I still wish I had called adult protective services before I found my mom on the floor...

"Don't let this happen to your parents."
How can you say this over and over. They do it! I didn't do it to my mom's house, she did it! Don't let it happen is too little too late.
