@samzepplin, clearly you have no idea what you're talking about or the magnitude the man in that video had on the sport of motorcycling. I suggest you go play with Barbies and leave this sport to the big boys.
beautiful motorcycle honda elsinore 250, this documentary has a lot of production, must have been from the honda factory, the nusic Goldfinger style, james bond.
Steve for a lt of us was a true hero, living life at it's full !!!!!!!!
i was saying to myself, man doesnt that look like 170th, then I see others have pointed out it is. Bean Cyn, Tehachapi, Wild Horse Cyn, Bachus Rd, the end shot camera view shows the south side of the AV out near Lake Elizabeth, Lake Hughes.
we used to go riding out that way in the 70's, and one day while riding my '73 Honda CR250, we met Bob Hannah.
saddleback, the slide, the spring, impossible, what a place.
this is the first time I have seen this video, way cool.
@ottohof yes, its very recognizable to me, i live here. used to ride there all the time till it got to be a bust, either ticketing you at your truck, or if your not on private land with permission, ticketing you for tresspassing, even they ride bikes now.
i'm sure there are those that still ride there, it was a time that passed.
still a neat video, untill today, i had never seen that, i even worked at honda dealership for 28 years and never saw it, but then we rode it every weekend.
I think the most interesting thing is seeing how big the whoops are. Certainly they are bigger today, but this video seems to answer the question of what came first, whoops or long travel suspension.
Way back around 1975, Bill called me from Gardena and told me to line up motorhomes, Hertz Rental Trucks, etc. as they were going to film a Honda Elsinore ad for the Japanese Market!!! Told me to meet a VIP at the Salt Lake Airport, turns out to be Steve McQueen!!! Ad was for the Japan market and I was told that McQueen was paid $1,000,000 to do it!! They were so pleased with the results they asked McQueen to do one for the US market........He said sure......$3,000,000.......no US McQueen ad
I luv this vid, you americans are so lucky to have all this gorgeous landscape to ride on, over here in the UK you could go miles away from anybody to ride as soon as you do the police turn up & ruin your whole day :( Wish i lived over there in the US!! Didn't even know Steve was into motoX, what a great guy :D
Steve was a great guy. I wonder what he would think about all the Bullshit we face today as a nation. Cap& trade, Copenhagen, He would want to stand up to the treasonous convicts in office today. Rest in peace my old friend.
Wow! This is back in the day when tree-huggers didn't exist yet, we didn't have to worry about bushes and turtles being saved, this looks like the desert as I remember it back in the 70's. What a fun and memorable time.
Haha, tree huggers existed back then. The rumors of banning two strokes even occured during that time and even R&D into 4 strokes were occuring. Actually, people were racing 4 strokes until a breakthru in technology advanced the 2 stroke into what it is known for today. There were issues with old 2 stroke technology which were solved in the 50s by Germany. Search for Walter Kaaden
There may have been tree huggers somewhere, but they didn't have the political clout they have today. They just looked at us like they hated us. Now they not only hate us, they're trying to take away our bikes.
Just bought one of these the other day. The thing has very little shock travel and vibrates like a cement mixer tons of fun. If honda says it's a man's ride and Steve mcqueen rode one that is good enough for me! Real dirtbikes are two stroke
I like the elsinore too, i was wanting to find out what kind of bike i wanted but the elsinore 250 M is about the best you can get out there and is reliable
hi all, im from elpaso texas and a major vintage fan. i remember when he shot movies by my house and later was flown to juarez mexico that ican see from my business to find a miracle cure for his cancer. what a guy. lived a full life
Takes me back to the day when you could show up at the track with $10 in your pocket. Pay your entry fee, get some dogs and drinks between motos, then stop for a burger on the way home......
...... and still have $4 leftover to put towards the next ride.
I miss the days of old. I had a 1974 CR250M toy [6" diecast with rubber knobbies] in 1974. Wish I had that bike today on my shelf. Grrr. Wish I HAD A real '74 CR250 today.... and a burger to go with it from the early 1970s. Fast food was tasty then.

It's the area that was once known as Holiday Hills between 230th and 190th St and up in the hills.
I spent half my life ( recalculating now ) Ahem... Make that one-quarter of my life riding those exact same trails.
Funny too.. I had the same Bell Magnum helmet in silver, the same Carrera goggles as well as the TH gloves.
Who knew I was setting styles for the likes of Steve way back then.

170th, bean cyn, tehachapi, mels place, remember when Lou Upshaw lived in the small trailer on the corner about 12 mi in from 170th?
thats the place, saddleback, the slide, the spring, impossible hillclimb, what a place.
suzukijo 1 year ago 2
yep yep. Bean Cny.(140th) which is where I heard Hannah would train and do sick cliff jumps out of the narrow raven.
170th at the other end, go up a ways and there's a good BLM spot to park and avoid 'the man'. lol Grab a map and GPS and you're safe.
This place defines 'out west' riding and there's great trails up in the pine covered mountains in the background.

Yeah, that end shot looks to pan from the play hills out near 170th & Rosamond.
He parks it with the Tehachapi's behind him(N), right?
Then panning from his view, L to R or the SE to the W up the 138 towards the 5 almost.
