  • Close your eyes, open your ears and heart to listen to this. It's amazing.

  • This is actually quite nice.

  • The first time I heard this performance, I hated it. This time I'm only hearing, not watching, and I like it better. sprund2010 was right about Lang and the 2nd Rhapsody but out of fairness, only Yuja Wang has come close to doing the Horowitz transcriptions justice. No one else has had the same barnstorming, caution-to-the-winds attitude that Volodya brought to them. But give this performances a few listens and see what you think from there.

  • the best i've ever heard

  • Who cares about opinion. Music as an ectopic flux of info for the brain acts such another sense. Musical sense variates, is totally normal. If someone dislike the Lang performances there is another pianist very recognized. This guy know the tempos, know the notes, have skills and never fall into a finger fail. Emphatizing the notes which his fingers and cerebral cortex and amigdala orders. There is no problem. In Aristothelic terms Its called vituosity and it may cause controversy...

  • 2:15 jizzed in my pants

  • @jimhoyl07 Lang Lang too...

  • a rather lewd comment my friend...however... for this piece with this performer... a fair enough responce :-)

  • @MrNeuket i love his performance lol it's just when he looked down at 2:15, it was either "peed in my pants" or "jizzed in my pants"

  • A NOTE TO CRITICS OF STAGE PRESENCE: When you can play equivocally technical and expressive renditions of what you are criticizing without physically becoming involved in the music, then I'd like to hear what your point is. Otherwise, maybe you should practice more than you type. People will take your weird obsession over stage presence a little more seriously. I don't understand you folk. I wouldn't criticize my favorite painters speaking accent - what would be the point?

  • Many people are critical of his physical reactions to the music, idiosyncratic of his performances. We're all different, and thus react differently to everything, but, truly, I don't think he's acting. He has a genuine, deep connection to the music he's expressing, and I haven't heard a performance with THIS much clarity. It is through the want to express and emote that makes this so beautiful. Not only mere focus on technical perfection. And, being an opera singer, please, it's Don Giovanni.

  • HE IS SO FAT!!!!!!!!!

  • 朗朗你照照镜子,瞅瞅你长得那个逼样,哈哈哈

  • he is bang bang.

  • I am not professional enough to judge whether the interpretation is good or not.

    But definitely not this bad!

  • I got discouraged after watching this video. :(

  • 4:49 "oh hello!"

  • damn Asians !

  • @0741995717 don't blame Asians, blame Lang Lang. Jung Lin's List Rhapsody No.2 is the best !

  • It's the DON GIOVANNI paraphrase !!!! Not Don Juan ! The opera is in Italian !

  • Acting is a art, music is a art and they are not as far from eachother as arts as people too often think. Lang Lang is not fake here and that's most importand, music lives very colorfully! I like this interpretation very much

  • Franz Liszt would approve!

I've never heard this one played nearly as brilliant, and as to Lang Lang's interpretation - it gives me a deeper insight into Liszt's intentions than I had before. Thank you, Sissco!

  • Yes he's acting. But there aren't a handful of people in human history who could do what he did here.

  • how can he be so accurate when playing while barely looking at the keys

  • I am sorry, but everyone saying that this interpretation lacks real depth are absolute crap! How can u get a more 'pervert' Don Giovanni than Lang-Lang, with all those winks and cute actions... And above all, his sound is doing exactly what he acted out! He almost played the part of the opera!

  • @linkin741 please don't comment anymore...

  • 1:18 jizz in my pants?

  • @BassicStorm no hes got feeling like no one else

  • his thirds are the best i`ve ever seen. bravissimo

  • i freaking LOL at 4:24 - 4:30 ' oh wheres the camera" *stare* blink blink blink HAHAH so cute. he's putting himself in character like tom and jerry or something :)

  • He, in this video, reminds me of Mr. Bean a little.

  • Wow he's doing too much!

    Lol this is too funny.

It looks like he's having a seizure on the piano.

  • This clown would probably show every emotion in the book and a few new ones just playing a C chord. There's a friggin' limit to everything! I'm with Horowitz when he said, "This [imitates hyper-emotional pianist] you will not see it." Some pianists show emotions and that's fine, but this is just compensation for lack of real depth - I don't know, but this is a very sub-par performance - dry! The only decent asian pianist I know is Uchida. The rest are fakes - technical skill but zero depth.

  • @8Ho03EdONl1liL It's a good thing you are no judge, because you seem like you have no depth speaking the way you do. talk about stereotypical, single minded ignorance as well.

  • GAYYY

  • @sophie15910 ......how do you know?

  • Liszt must have been the Michael Jackson of his day!

  • Lang Lang is good. Stop complaining faggots

  • he is had a big power, and he also outstanding in expressioning.

i respect him and i want be look like him.

  • i love lan lang..its like his hands are playing without him and he just sits around and enjoys the sounds that come out..awesome interpretation!

  • Not the most faithful or thoughtful rendition but I must admit that it is awfully fun to listen to this=P

  • Will anyone ever beat this performance?

  • @stacattos Enrico Pace

  • Comment removed

  • LangLang said this is his style, so as to make a better show of his own music! Imaginative and expressive.

  • Extraordinary amounts of imagination! This is by far the best playing of this piece I can find anywhere. A nearly psychedelic performance!

  • Um... didn't the fellow who wrote this piece throw himself around at the keyboard and even pretend to faint on occasion? I don't like histrionics at the piano and Lang Lang has created some real monstrosities (eg. his awful attempt at the Horowitz version of the 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody) but I have to admit that this performance of Don Juan is amazing. Such explosive power and control and freedom. Credit where credit is due.

  • his gestures disgust me

  • Crap.

  • ok is joker but great pianist artist please respect for art

  • wanna hear a joke? - LANG LANG :D

  • I heard him live at Lincoln center. my impression was that, when things get simple... he has no clue what to do musically. He has a fantastic technique, and he IS a great showman. But when someone can't carve out a melody with musicality, yet can play the most technically difficult works around.... something is wrong.

Horowitz once said, and I'm paraphrasing "When they get to a simple melody, they start sweating" [ he was referring to the new generation of young pianists.

    that's my opinion

  • @MiekMiester123

Couldn't agree more, nor could I say it better. Thank you for this comment.

  • Gang Bang

  • this is again, archtypical 'bang-bang.' His lack of musical taste is truly outstanding - although outstandingly talented as a showman, i would rather listen to someone who delivers music as it should be delivered - with respect, with beauty, with emotion, with love. Liszt would be turning in his grave - a great showman - but a man who always sought musical defintion in his works. Unlike Lang Lang.

  • @wagneristhebest, Someone else once said to me before that in their opinion, if Liszt could hear this guy play his music... Then he'd probably rewrite his works and make them even more difficut just to be extra sure that they are kept 'out-of-reach' from those blinded by superficiality.

  • @advisorC101 No way... there would always be an asian capable of playing his scores like this;) Liszt did not take into account asian dedication to practice

  • @stacattos, I really have no idea why anyone ever brings the matter of one's ethenic origin into matters of art. I know of asians who's playing makes me drool as if I were some kind of porn dog in comparison to this.

  • @wagneristhebest you are right. but the world now is opened to lang-langs and is closed to the real art.

  • Again we have the typical issue with Lang forcing out his sound from a childish desire to send out a message of some kind. Instead of producing it from the bottom of his heart and drawing it from his mind, he brings it straight out from the gut. He can play octaves and chromatic thirds at high speeds. So what? But he has no grasp of the structure at all. There's this constant 'need' to violently rush through the parts in a totally unintelligent manner. I've heard much better from amateurs.

  • @advisorC101 so true

  • lang lang is a great pianist but not the greatest

I think he has been corrupted by people who told him that he had to show he great deal of emotion (his previous works shows an emotionless genius)

  • @dactree, Exactly. He has a distorted sense of musicianship.

  • shut up you all and post your performance of this piece!

  • @mephistodimitrov, You don't need to be able to play it better in order to criticize an obviously overrated hack. You know, critics could ask petty apologists such as yourself the same thing. But do they? Usually: No. Because they [know] better. Once you've obtained knowledge, then try to defend Lang Lang on his positive grounds (whatever they may be), and accept his negative areas for what they are instead of living in denial. The fact is, those such as yourself are impressionable. We're not.

  • @advisorC101 mama, your boring :)

  • Comment removed

  • I'm so obsessed with L's music, its like drugs can not drop ....He played 4D(4 dimension),while others <=3D,which I mean Lang's music sounds so vivid and well-organized.U can even visualize picture in your mind when U listen to each'o his songs....Obvious,he never shows off,u can check his music when he was very very little and played exactly the same way as he does these days.Remember, the one who played 5 times at White House is him ,not u....

  • he is simply not good. he has to become a clown so he can entertain because his playing alone doesn't do it.

  • Cziffra the best...

  • monkey dance.............use is feeling in the piano not in the face...........look at horowitz and you will see.......

  • @TheFontehihi fucking sb

  • @TheFontehihi close your eyes and enjoy the music

  • @RAINZHOU09, I close my eyes just about every time when I listen to this guy. And it only reassures me each time that I'm quite comfortable with holding the opposing opinion. Maybe you should open your ears?

  • @advisorC101 Close your eyes physically, open your eyes mentally.

  • @sasukeluver345, That's exactly my point. I listen with my ears and see with my mind.

  • Hey guys, Im NEW to classical music. I watched this thing on NEw years . it was a lang lang concert. I know nothing about classicla music!! However, I am a huge fan of Dream Theater and Jordan Rudess. I love the piano/keyboard, I never learned to play though. I was wondering , since up to this point I thought Jordan Rudess was the greatest thing ever. How good/not good is he when compared to classical guys?

  • @nevertheless123 it's called "feeling the music"

  • @mrnanovideos I guess Horowitz, Cziffra, Berman, Rubinstein never "felt the music." It must be obvious that Kissin, Volodos, and Wang don't feel the music either. Lang Lang is just a nut case - I'll bet he got picked on a lot when he was a kid.

  • Close your eyes and it all sounds better without the unnecessary facial and body antics.

  • I never get bored watching Lang Lang

  • Simon Barere owns this piece.

Lang Lang gives it good try.

  • This is the best Liszt: perfect skills, dramatic musical expressions, and spontaneous interpretations.

  • @lawrencepiano100 Indeed. I've not heard much of Lang Lang, but this is a superb rendering of the Liszt fantasy on Don Juan. His style is well-suited for Liszt...as an example, listen to the enormous range of expressions in the passages from 4:50 - 5:30. One must have the stealthy agility of a cheetah, the furtive whimsicality of a cockerel, and the reluctant nostalgia of a forgotten maid to pull that off!

  • @kingofcourtz fucking sb

  • why do people dislike this guy? hes amaing!!!

  • Magnifique aussi à un piano, bravo !

  • Mesmerizing!!

  • I wish 1:15-1:22 was my orgasm face :)

  • I really wonder how his abominable face would turn out to be if he ever made a silly mistake while putting on a show like that??

Maybe his eyeballs will turn completely upside down???

  • Wow what an expression!

  • 2:42 thirds are so clear especially the descending

  • he is arrogant throughout the whole piece with over reacting action

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • 0:42 That is an arrogant face. I'd love to smash it. Can I ?

  • @totalannihilator99 No wonder you are not better than him because you cannot appreciate.

  • The most CHALLENGING piece !!!!

  • @mrchopin89 Actually, the most challenging piece is scarbo or islamey. Then one could easily say mazeppa or the chopin etudes after that.

  • That....is one nice Steinway....

  • he wants to fuck the piano xD i like it lang lang one of my favourite pianists

  • Pathetic fag.

  • why don't the camera man just aims at his finger movements T.T

  • its always good to see a person with such severe autism rise above and become something.

  • @gaiamantic lmao

  • Like Malmsteen about guitar : technically of a very high level , but except this ... not really emotions in this kind of play ,sorry

  • God, I can not watch videos of him.

I always have to make sure to alt-tab before the camera pans to his face.

Phenomenal playing, but he looks like a clown!

  • why does he have to be sooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!

  • awesom magical fingers lov ev ry bit of it.

  • hes so talented and who cares about hes expressions. not alot of people can do that while playing.

  • think that a genius of the piano could easily overlook its visual gestures. A poor argument for denying the genius of Lang Lang

  • @gianpaga11 Sorry, no genius here. Very good pianist, yes. Genius. No. You need to look up the definition of the word genius.

  • @gianpaga11 He is an amazing pianist, but his act is just plain annoying.

  • @Blacckkfire oh? why do so many conductors and even famous pianists have him in high regard? explain that for me please. or are you somehow above everyone else?

  • @mcrettable It is in personal opinion, if famous pianists like him, good for them. I admire his playing, but not his act.

  • He is like Mr. Bean with the way he does his experssions. They're quite entertaining :) But at the same time you can see the talent and emotion behind his playing...

    I really like this guy.

  • yes I do agree a little with that and the problem is the eyes. The eyes gets in the way of it all. Stevie Wonder would be a better judge because he does not have the problem that we have.....the eyes....the ears is really what you'll need to make tjhat judgment.

  • 4:48 he's trying to hold his gas

  • 1:07 the gas is strong

  • Comment removed

  • 4:25 he lost it for a moment

  • El mejor pianista Clasico de la actualidad !!!

  • I read that Liszt played piano with lots of facial and body expressions. I guess many of you would not have liked to see Liszt play the piano.

Lang Lang plays like Jazz pianists, lots of FEELINGS and EXPRESSIONS, something many of us lack.

  • @skimask777 And what if those "feelings and emotions" he's expressing through those motions are just rehearsed motions taught by the choreography coaches he supposedly has? In my humble opinion, then it wouldn't be real, but a big sham. Like a woman who fakes in bed ;)

  • @Lypur .....If a woman fakes a good orgasm and it was good enough to caused me to cum.... who the hell really cares......as long as I get a good nights sleep with a smile on my face .......she delivered.... job well done.

  • @skimask777 lang lang certainly has those, but I don't really like his way of showing those feelings. he's overly expressive. Imho true feelings can be heard mostly from the playing, for example Wilfelm Kepmff. It just takes one glance into those deep eyes to see the vast emotion behind them..

  • Lang Lang

  • enrico pace's one is waaaay better than this.

for me lang lang play it too fast and he moves too much...

  • Sounds wonderful with the vuvuzelas button on!

  • Totally grotesque, true chinese junk. An insult to Music.

  • @totalannihilator99 On the contrary! Ling Ling has the mind of a Rachmaninoff, the orchestral sound of a Horowitz, the singing tone of a Rubenstein, the individuality of a Gould...NOT!

  • @Caocao8888 ling ling is a panda in china.. lang lang is the virtuoso you're listening to loll just had to point that out sorry

  • @marchesi1993 Xiexie ni bangmang. [Mandarin Chinese] In other words, I knew that. ☺

  • @Caocao8888 that's good lol

  • The pianist's hands must play the role of saints and martyrs – as well as devils.”

  • Hey guys!!! did you know that liszt himself was excentric and theatrical when playing piano? “When playing the music of Franz Liszt, which can be considered the height of Romanticism, we must immerse ourselves as profoundly as possible in the passionate excesses of human love, frenzies of Gypsy exaltation and trancelike dance, orgasmic trembling of body and spirit, dark nights of the soul, and the quest for religious redemption sought by Liszt during his entire life,

  • HE WILL BE THE GREATEST PIANIST EVER!!!

  • Why the crazy theatrics ??

  • I listen only to the music. I care not really about the expressions of the pianist. But it doesn't bother me. And the music is good.

  • Epic face! Epic face! Epic face! JIZZ in my pants!

  • I think artistry is often creepy and eccentric, so I think it's OK for Lang Lang to be whatever he feels like when he is playing!

  • it should be accompanied by a consummate knowledge of images... you don't have to see his interviews. just believe what you see, THEN what you hear. Lang lang, i still don't like you though ;)

  • i feel contradicted... having heard Lang Lang as one would flip through sections of a magazine, i feel he is a free spirit who doesn't care about just expressing himself grossly. he probably knows he will never be sexy or what.... having said that, i still HATE him and i'm an absolutist and will stand by my impressions. i understand that it is hard for one to admit his technique is indomitable, but we should stop hearing sound by itself -

  • i have and had always like that video!!

  • Guys, this is as close as we're going to get to Horowitz's Don Juan.

  • A POETIC and SPIRITUAL performance of a MASTER!!!

  • this dude is either really really artistic or just outright creepy

  • @luckymaeaaa I'd say it's artist...no doubt about it.

  • i love this guy a true musician makes love to his/her instrument and his orgasim face show that :D

  • @jemokjemok Dude, that's Chinese traditional suit, just like the black suit you're wearing to the formal occasion. I admit that the color was weird, but there is nothing you should criticize about.

  • something about this guy really irritates me, but i can't put my finger on it

  • @ewanl33t it's because Liszt is not alive to kick Lang Lang's ass. So now Lang pretends he owns the piece because he knows it by heart.

  • @PrincessDesert Which is in itself an accomplishment most virtuosi will never attain. This thing is harder than any two of the transcendental etudes. He's well-behaved, the technique is impeccable, it's a good performance.

  • spectacularly good and enjoyable ! difficult though to hear the Drama of Don Giovanni (Mozart) behind the virtuoso that was Liszt... he himself used to add tremolos to impress his audience... such a beautiful music, played , played and played again for the centuries to come...

  • I've heard LL in concert twice and both times he was amazing. Once in recital and once with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His expression is something that you either love or hate. I love it and think it adds a lot to the live experience.

  • he looks ridiculous. and he's banging the shit out of those keys! bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

  • @SCordeliaB oh dude, you're really sad, why don't accept that lang lang is a great pianist? why are you so envious?.... sad sad sad...

  • Did he go to Julliard's theater division?

  • @mikern2001

    lollllllllll :)

  • This is one of the most diffcult piano works in music history. And LL plays it very well.. bravo, superb performance.

  • he is very confident of himself wearing that red shirt ! great playing!
