Looks like the Republic was better at PR than on the battlefield, and I guess in a way they did get the last laugh in terms of how the history books write about all this.
one of the best books on Spanish War was 'Homage To Catalonia' by George Orwell...Stalins secret police tried to have Orwell and his wife brought to a show trial..Orwell escaped from Spain and lived to write about totalitarianism...
