I agree with you. I think Masashi is trying to foreshadow what will happen to Team 7 in the futue, AKA = Sakura will become a medical ninja, (Remember that Jiriaya was asked to be hokage.) Naruto will become Hokage, and Sasuke will be bent on hatred and somehow end up like Orochimaru, whether he does come back to the village as a civilian or not, I think the reference to Orochimaru means Sasuke will have great power. Right now though, it's unclear what will happen (at least in the manga)...
