  • I don't know why there are four dislikes... I would be interested in the negative comments since I really like the recording, just as I generally like Hantai when playing Frescobaldi (actually I generally like Hantai as a harpsichordist ... did anyone listen to his Goldberg-Variations?). He has so much of, what one would call "Spielwitz" in German (I don't really know an English term for that). I really find his recordings inspiring. But as I wrote above, I'd be intererested in negativecomments

  • @Nikolausius So would I! Hantai sure knows what he is doing, like you said. I like his style a lot as well. About the dislikes... I guess we'll never know.

  • @Nikolausius It could easily be from people who don't like the piece, or even the entire style of music, not necessarily Hantai's performance of it. You can't give too much credence to these things.

  • thanks for the upload!

  • The theme is such a fabulous tune and the variations just keep coming with varying speeds and keys and all ending with that great indefatigable riff. Frescobaldi never seems to run out of ideas for variations. Just when you thinks that he has run out of ideas, there comes the final movement and what a great and unusual idea to end with a set of slow variations. Played flawlessly with great virtuosity by ex BBC Young Musician Pierre Hantai. Stirring jubilant stuff.

  • @Stigtoes :... it's just a bass / harmonic progression, not so much a tune - although the melodic quality and inventiveness are sure wonderful ;-) anyhow, I fully agree! Together with Buxtehude's Passacaglia in D minor, it is the greatest ostinato-based keyboard piece before Bach's Passacaglia, preceded only by Italian gelato :-)

  • I feel I am dieing and being reborn inside this piece of music

  • Ottimo!

  • Bravo l'Hantai.
