  • love 82!

  • It was so underated... I rather play this than that shitty console OnLive

  • what about polar rescue ?

  • Thank you for this video - with a great score - hope your Vectrex is still alive and kicking - this beast is immortal. :)

  • haha pulled mine out of the cupboard today still in mint condition in the box haha

  • Great video, love how you fade in the coloured overlays. I won't part with my Vectrex and would recommend this unique console to all. Thanks for including my fav..Berzerk!

  • The stock game is good. It's Asteroids .

  • this video is very well put together. i remember playing armor attack over and over. what a great game. also mine storm getting to level 24 i believe. solar quest had a weird bug in it where you could fight "the last boss" or something. ahhh good times after school in 1987 while i ate chef boyardee spaghetti and meatballs hehe

  • @AlirazaVideoGames This must have been the chit back in the 80's. I was just a kid who had an atari 2600 some time in the 80's, which for some strange reason I all of a sudden miss.

  • Excellent man. Amazing machines. Must get myself one, one day.

  • My nan had this system,i spent many hours on it,fav game was web wars, i consider myself very lucky to have been at the start of the console revolution, yes i had pong too, amazing how far and fast it has progressed to what we have now X)

  • EEK!

    Help!

    Spike!

    Oh, No!

    Molly!

  • One of these days, I'm gonna need to get me one of these (just to play one of the industry's most unique creations).

  • I just now found my collection of games in a huge ass shoe box for this and i had to play each of them. My childhood is back.

  • Bought mine off a friend for $70

  • it cost 250$ now :<

  • I still have this game system.

  • I got a vectrex and im proud of it!

  • What, no authentic Vectrex sounds?

  • Nice video.

  • they need to play some vectrex on rage quite :)

  • i was only 10 years old when the vectex came out i loved it i still have it today an i think it shit all over my atari back then and today its got 4 buttons on its controler where atari has one

  • @TheLOUIE1973: Atari 2600 has more color. A lot more.

  • Ohne Musik wäre besser gewesen!

  • Ahhh I love it - I thought I'd never see those screens again....

  • :o we didn't have a color one... also, there was one game we had that I didnt see here. I can't remember the name but I know it was football.

  • @KirstyThePie There wasn't a color Vectrex, since vector graphics cannot be colorized. Instead, they came with colored overlays to place over the screen which looked even more ridiculous than black and white vector graphics.

  • @chosentonessournotes Ah thank you :) I had done some more searching for Vectrex and discovered that myself. How silly! But I reckon it may've made it less boring for the younger players.

  • interestin' stuff

  • I was raised on 3-D graphics and that looks like it would be fun.

  • I have it in crowded room full of junk and like 12 games.... scramble and star trek and blitz were my fave. i suppose i can go play it now cause it definitely works... just... lazy....

  • nvery cool man, i love the video!!!

  • such an original and cool system. I think I might buy one, theres something about it thats so unique :-)

  • MASSIVE FAVOR, please.. Tell me the name of the game we played summer '85. You piloted a jeep, in an urban environment ( top down of course). Helicopters were your enemy. Thanks.

  • i got my vectrex with a stack of games all the overlays and an extra controller for 35$ on kijiji. i bet the person is kicking them selves for leting it go for 35$ XD

  • Some of those games look very playable, even today - and who'd have thought the Vectrex had a 3D platformer way before Mario etc??? That was an eye-opener!

  • @zombiemod lot of old games are playable today. easy to get into

  • Cool video. What are you using MESS? If so, I have a question. How did you get those overlays to work? I have those artwork files, along with all the flyer, cabinet, etc artwork files. I got those to work fine, & even the overlay/bezel files for MAME, but not for the MESS Vectrex overlay files. Can you offer any help?

  • The graphic is funkylicious.

  • This shit is so rare, you can't even find it on EBAY!

  • anyone know where i cqan get a vectrex for cheap? i went to amazon and ebay all mostly starting at 100's

  • @Frogster7 ebay can be cheap, i managed to get mine with 3 games and all overlays for £35. but more games and overlays can indeed cost over £100....iv got a few games now, boxes and overlays

  • Isn't Vectrex also known as a homebrew console? Why is that?

  • @HardcoreGamer4Ever By homebrew, I don't mean the console is homebrew, I mean there are a lot of homebrew games for it.

  • lol i made a review on this

  • @Doom61000 You call that a review? You just talked shit on the console with hardly any legitimate reasons to hate it, and you use gay way too much in it.

  • that's almost like barebones 3D with 60 FPS.

    nice.

  • that first game Mind Storm was fucking AMAZING! Damn my idiot brother for selling our vectrex! damn him to hell!

  • @spellingmastake Sounds like he should buy you another one :D

  • i remember this was the 1st game system i played ...yeah i know im old ...most the kids now dont even know what this things called ...oldest system they know is like playstation hahaha

  • I picked up a Vectrex many years ago at a garage sale. I only had the Star Trek game. It was awesome.

  • is there any other controllers that work on vectrex?

  • How did you get the footage?

  • around 300 they sell 4 in toronto

  • can you make a part 2 with the new homebrew/prototype releases?

  • Hey mate, do you have any idea what these are worth now??

  • Amazing job on this compilation. Seriously. Kudos.

  • My God! I've finally watched a video on youtube where the music actually suited the video!

    This is a great day!

Oh and the Vectrex rocks - SO hard :)

  • Best Pole Position explosion... ever

  • I love oldschool 3D vector games like Web Wars, Pole Position and Star Wars Arcade. They're soo cool.

  • Man,I got a Vectrex on this Christmas day,and I never regretted it.

  • Man, if I ever find a Vectrex at our local flea market, I'm so picking it up.

  • @chosentonessournotes It's a great console. Check the homebrew games and you'll want one absolutely.

  • @chosentonessournotes that's where i got my vectrex for $20 in perfect working condition check out my review =)

  • @chosentonessournotes

    Good luck with that...

  • @chosentonessournotes It's very possible! I found mine for $20 at the flea market! :)

  • I still have my Vectrex including Scramle, Clean sweep , pinball, Hyper chase and Star trek with the color screens! lol!

  • Wow. Those overlays made a world of difference. I never had them though. I remember playing Heads Up and Hyperchase and I always thought it was like playing at night.

  • wow I never had the damn overlays. I wonder how Spike for instance would have been with them.

  • I wish so badly I could have old consoles and this is definately one of my favorites with the vector graphics it just looks so clear and nice :) it even included its own television to play on you cant get better then that. I would much rather have all these old systems then the new ones I have. I just ordered a ps3 whcih is my newest system (added on to my wii) but my oldest arnt even that old. N64 and gameboy color. Oh how i wish i had consoles like these.

  • you can get yourself a vectrex with games on ebay man. they still make games for it to. ima get one as soon as i have the $

  • I would have never guessed that the overlays worked so fine!

  • this system looks awesome, every game reminds me of asteroids

  • Great vid ! Brought back a lot of memories. I also liked "Blitz", the football game.

  • watching this, its amazing how advance this console was. I'm seriously amazed at the vector graphics and how stunning they look. I may look into adding one of these to my console collection.

  • Vectrex still has the best version of Pole Position. All that line drawn goodness.

  • I had one as a kid. It got ruined though. I wish I still had it. I almost forgot about half these games. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.

  • i SPENT SO MUCH TIME PLAYING ON THIS AS A KID...LOVED IT....COULD YOU IMAGINE WHAT A FULLY SELF CONTAINED SYSTEM WOULD RUN NOW DAYS.......

  • This video brought back so many memories...hours and hours playing.

There was something magical about this device - it made you want to play it - it made you want to abandon your Atari. The graphics were just so cool for it's time. I loved the white mono-chrome screen.

Thanks for watching? Buddy, thanks for posting!

  • ahh my vectrex broke I had hyperchase in and the game wiggled in the socket and the screen whent to a diaganal line now when i turn it on the original game mine storm is just a diagonal line on the screen :(

  • The vectrex really is unlike any other console.

  • very well done video! I like how you showed the games with and without the overlays. 5 stars!

  • nice video, i miss this game system . spike used to crack me up because the sound effects were so funny.

  • have a vectrex with 9 boxed games and a new controller...such a great system!!!......I don't think I will ever be able to buy the 3-d imager though....very expensive

  • i brought one for 25 quid with 5 games!!!!! Brings back so many memories

  • wow, you die/fail at almost every game :P Still nice to see all these games though

  • The games look decent for such an old system, really. The vector graphics worked pretty well too.

  • i saw one in the flea market once :}

  • I'd rather get this than a Virtual Boy...

  • I really want a Vectrex.But they're very expensive on eBay.

  • Spike looked smeggin' hard.

  • Great Video!

  • what is the music you used for this?

  • This is a great video. I had a bunch of these games. Funny how "clean sweep" was a PacMan ripoff.

Is there a pause button on the controller? How did you make the transition from monochromatic to plastic color overlay in the video so seamlessly?

  • @kchastain3 i dunno about rip off, id say inspiration. as it included a little more complex gameplay than pac man did

  • @kchastain3 I don't think this is filmed off a real Vectrex. The ovelays are definitely added in post production.

  • @kchastain3 perhaps this was emulated

  • @kchastain3 probably the magic of editing

  • lol...wow, this brings back memories! A nice tribute video :)

  • man, I saw one of these on craigslist in the NYC for $50 including 5 games, I was so pissed, it was posted a few months ago!!

  • nice video dude gives a lot of respect to this great games system [:

  • My dad's friend bought one at a yardsale for $3

  • that video took my breath away! Is there an emulator?

  • cool

  • LOL holy shit I had one IT ROCKED.

don't konw where it is now loved it to death prob , the colour was a film put over the screen Ha ha ha . best machine ever...well for the time.

  • Excellent video.

  • cool i have pole position for my gameboy adv. (namco museum) and on my vectrex. yayz

  • why did this console not succeed? it was miles better than what was around at the time and you didnt need a tv which was very handy because most people then only had 1 tv in the house.

  • i want one!

  • M.E.S.S. !!!

  • holy shit my vectrex was expencive! It was over $300 but its worth it this game system is awesome!

  • I actually have a Vectrex for sale, if annyone is interrested... I don't have any game exept for the built-in game; Mine Storm...

  • I am interested. How much?

  • How much, I keep asking, but you don't respond!

  • Excellent, played this a lot as a kid :)

  • Thank You for post this video . Great arcade System!!

  • PM me please.

  • i have about 130 of these games Mattel Casio Nintendo grandstand namco tomy bambino gakken entex i would let my collection go for the right price all in very good some as new condition

  • I must be the only one that had the 3D goggles. I cannot find a video anywhere on the net showing 3D Mindstorm. ...A most awesome piece of early '80's technology!

  • great grafic for the 80is, respect for this console

  • Fortress of Narzod was the bomb diggity. I loved how you could get infinite lives if you and the wizard died simultaneously... Ohh the rush of power I felt... it was intoxicating, perhaps even corrupting.

I was such a scramble junkie too, it had this neat little theme and pretty solid, challenging gameplay.

And shame on you for not including cosmic chasm.

  • That was brilliant tr0d, thanks. I've only ever seen Vectrex stills, never knew anyone that had one at the time either.

  • Man I totally forgot about Fortress of Narzod. I remembered most of my other games. Thanks for posting this

  • I'm still waiting on mine. But I can't wait to play it. I already got scramble and vecmania

  • Ahead of its time. Better in many ways

than all other consoles at the time.

  • i liked clean sweep and bezerker

  • Hi,I have been very lucky to get one of these. I am wondering can you play games that you have bought from America and play them on a European vectrex

  • The Vectrex totally rocked the 80's! I played mine for hours on end. I remember how I couldn't wait to get home from school to play Fortress of Narzod and I was addicted to Scramble. I think I had about 15 games for it. I have to check my mom's attic. They should still be up there.

    Great video and cool effects!

  • Fortress of Narzod was my favorite too. I sold my vectrex in '94 and now I regret it. It would be fun playing those oldschool games again

  • This is one system I never got, and now I'm kinda kicking myself for it, those graphics were pretty GOOD!

  • wow.... this console looks ahead of its time

  • wierd how ventrex made it to still be simi popular almost 30 years later!

  • Was there ever an Asteroids-clone for Vectrex? This is a good video otherwise, but I would rather have heard the actual sounds instead of a generic background music.

  • Great video, I'm thinking of getting one of these and it's nice to see the games with and without the screen overlay

  • Omg, how much i love this thing :D

and scramble is an AWESOME game.

  • I still have mine. Hey, did anybody else have the problem on Minestorm where after you complete (I believe) the 13th level, the game automatically reset itself? It happened sometimes, but not always. AAARRRGGGHHHH...that ticked me off!! Fun system though.

  • After level 13 my vectrex system gave invisible mines!! Hard to play!!

One time, I got to level 22.

  • What is the name of this song?

  • gotta love the vectrex other than phillips cd-i my favorite!

  • Vectrex rules

  • I had one back in the day,and it was really fun to play

  • minestorm 2

  • i only heard of this when i saw "charles in charge".lol.

    paul

    australia.

  • what is the song

  • Still a great gaming system!

  • Vectrex is the best .

The indicredible vexctorgraphic is strange but excellent.

  • this brings back so many memories

  • I Come From The East I Never Heard Of The Vectrex Until My Friend Powered His Up And Beat Mine Storm! Thank You For The Memories

  • Always wanted to see one of these in action. Thank you.

  • where is berserk?

  • at 1:30

  • One way to describe the vectrex's graphics:

It has the kind of wonderfully pointy graphics i love.

  • Excellent video! Great job on blending the overlays. If not for you showing them, I wouldn't have remember half of these games since I was so young when I got mine.

  • Anyone else think the overlays are unnecessary?

  • No, you're the only one! :D

  • Hey buddy,

Thanks for posting.. I have all except two games you showed here. I let some dingus borrow my system in the 80s and he lost the color overlays! Whatever; still have everything else.

  • Pole position with the color overlay is just fantastic.

  • Vextrex was very fast and if i remember right had one of the first pre 16Bit CPU´s build in. I think 16 Bit intern on an 8 Bit bus. Vectrex that time was a lot faster than a C64. The games had a different flair, if you play them today, they give you a cool experience compared to todays conventional gaming systems. It is still adictive to play them. EV1 try the emulator. It has not the same quality as the original, cause the analog vector graphics on the real vectrex never ever had pixeled lines.

  • Actually, it has a plain 8 bit CPU, but with some 16-bit features: the motorola 6809. The same CPU used, for instance, on the Dragon 32/64.

  • Vectex...in my opinion... was actually really good for its time especially compared with emerson arcadia and rca studio III

  • brings back a happy childhood thanks..

  • 4 words: MOST UNDERRATED SYSTEM EVER!

  • 4 words: MOST UNDERRATED SYSTEM EVER!

  • Wow talk about an underrated system. I got to get one of those! Scramble looks awesome with vector graphics!

  • i loved armor attack =)

  • Yeah, looks very poor, but it was one of the coolest games, especially if the tanks get squeezed... hehe

  • Seeing this kills me. I had a perfectly functional Vectrex and 4 games that I sold in a garage sale in 1992.

The Vectrex would have dominated the early 80's if it had more games. A shame.

Just curious, are the games in this video running on an emulator?

  • You're an idiot for selling it ;)

It wasn't the lack of games that did the system in--do a search for the Vectrex database to see how much software was in the works--but the Video Game Crash, Milton Bradley not allowing the Vectrex commercial to be broadcast any more once they bought it, tons of other systems, both games only and computers, etc. that killed it.

  • Nice compilation. My favorite was Fortress of Narzod!!

  • Nice! Pole Position looked even better than the orginal pixelized arcade-version...

  • che ricordi!!!

  • This was a nice system. My brother worked for a camp that had one in their infirmary one time. He brought it home to play a couple of times. It was great fun! Actually, there was a Star Trek game for the vectrex that was really quite good. I'd like to see that again. Scramble was a great game!

  • Great video! I always wondered what the games looked like for that machine. Turns out they look really good. It's a pretty slick little piece of tech.
