Love him or hate him, he does have some local friends in very high places...whether or not he's a bullshitter is up to debate, but he does carry himself in a way that communicates to others that he is important. As a result of this perception that he gave to his Afghan buddies, he has all of the resources and contacts he needs. So who knows? Maybe it's worked for him.

As a Marine I can tell you that the most successful guys, those who apply for and get contracting or government positions act a lot like this fella does (usually guys leaving the Marines).
