Jethro Tull, The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2DVD features concert footage from Tampa 1976, London Hippodrome 1977, Beat Club 1970 plus rare footage from Thick as a Brick/Passion Play tours more info available at Tommygunvideo please see our youtube channel for link/clips/more details
Guitar player: A:) Didn't get the memo on dress code for the gig. and B:) went Vegas all over that lead till it sounded like a Breakfast Cereal jingle.
Barre can take credit for the most interesting, and what I think is the best ever guitar solo OF ALL TIME, on the original Aqualung studio version. Each live version he did was also different and just as creative.
I seen these guys in about 92 or so....down at the old coney Island park in Cincinnati Ohio...very good ..Ian Anderson is of of the best front guys I have ever seen
Pure utter foooookin Genius! Brought back superb memories (Seen JT live a few times in the early 80's) The lyrics were written by Iain Anderson's ex wife and is about a tramp in London
@Zepp3849 Ya, it is pretty much about a homeless man, it is just a poetic styled tale of what a homeless man does in his regular routine. He is also mentioned some other songs like Cross Eyed Marry, it mentions Aqualung watching her through railings at a playground.
Good stuff, but typical lousy youtube synching. Voices and instrument playing and vocals are on different planets. Why do they do this? Youtube used to be so great. Gotta spend more time on Vimeo, I guess.
I had tickets to see this tour in Reno in '78. My wife was preganat and I had to sell them to stay with her. Never got another chance...
I still think this was the best progressive band ever. Every musicion was acclaimed, and their song style amazing. BTW waylonlover, Aqualung is about homelessness. The poor oh sod didn't have a home, watching the girls might have been the only thing he had to remind him of better days. The lyrics are brillant and touch my soul everytime I here them...
Though less "forté" than the 1976 live version in my opinion, it still rocked some American socks over there :). Anyone else noticed the part at 2:54 when he spins the uni-directional instrument microphone around, causing the video camera to flip? :P
I think everybody's golden in their time. Watching them play today is hardly a shadow of what they used to be. Still, great stuff!
This song has one of the most funkyest bass licks ever! Also...The lyric, "back hurting bad as he bends to pick a dog-end." Can someone please tell me what a dog-end is? I get the impression that a dog-end is a shit... Maybe I should start calling my shit a Jake-end... lol. No... that would be weird.
Usually, if I want to hear a killer solo, I'll listen to the studio version, though. But, yeah......Barre's solo in this song uses notes that I've never heard before or since. It's one of those that just CAN'T be cranked up loud enough (always have to close my bedroom windows so that "Drummer Boy" next door won't freak out and call the cops and, when in the car, have to look around for sirens since I won't be hearing them). ;)
Bummer! Complete concert audio but nothing we haven't seen before video wise. Amazing that they didn't actually start filming until the moment of the live UK hook-up. What price now watching the pennies all those years ago!

But where is the entire concert??
TullTapes 2 years ago
Yes. I saw this new DVD release advertised on Ebay a few days ago.
It's only available in the U.K. for now.
It has previously UNSEEN footage, including stuff like "My God", "Cross-Eyed Mary" and "One Brown Mouse."
This release is a result of the big BBC - EMI deal to open up the BBC video vaults which have been closed for YEARS.
