For me, Marty does no way play with as much feel as Jason. Marty is more of a melodic genius then a 'play from the heart' guy (not saying that he doesn't)

The thing is this is a very sad sounding chord sequence. It is quite rare for Marty to play such a style solo. Most of his stuff is usally more upbeat fun and unpredicatble...I am in no way taking away the brilliance of this solo, I was just making a point

Yer i think they both enhanced eachother. I prefer Jasons solo album work and martys solos in a band situation.

Although Marty got frustrated in megadeth I believe it brought the best out in him and his solo work does not touch his work in megadeth in my opinion.

jason is definitely more technically advanced than marty, but i havent seen a video by him where he doesnt do a damn sweep while hes improvising. i think marty's one of the best improvisers around...

@1madaboutguitar I think the main differences between Marty Friedman and Jason Becker is that Jason Becker was more concerned with technicality, and Marty Friedman was more concerned with exotic beauty and taste. Other than that, they're not all that much different in terms of skill or melody.

I can tell you this is not easy to play. Its all very syncapated and the notes have to be spot on , not to mention the pinpoint vibrato and bending of notes. this guy really is a superb guiratist and musician!

Its exotic cos its got a sharpened seventh... Minor Scales with these in are called Harmonic Minors.

In this case hes actually just using chromatics... but the harmonic minor scale will acheive the same effect (on a much smaller scale ofc :))
