  • My department still has one of these units in service and it works better than half the newer ones.

  • Just hearing this sound brings back memories!!!

  • this model is the best of them all.

  • that thing looks old.

  • if you time it right you can do the power call by plaing the pa200 in yelp and timing the man button

  • I miss this siren. That wail drop has a distinct authoritative sound that no other has. Some of the new Carsons try but fail to really emulate it.

  • You're like a DJ scratching a record only you're using a PA200. Excellent job lol.

  • Anyone know if the Chicago PD really used that strange siren at (1:57) ? I thought they might have really used it.

  • Hi, Chicago PD does not use this in-between tone. If you're thinking of the Blues Brothers police chase scene where those tones are heard, it's actually dubbed in from a recording made of the in-between tones.

  • @enigma800: wrong.

Chicago did use those sirens. Just check out this video with the 60s-70s Chicago Police Cruisers: watch?v=3prfxe-iO1M

  • Don, you're correct!

  • actually that audio seems dubbed. badly i might add. alot of the siren tones werent around when those fire trucks were made and chicago pd used mars sirens up until the 80s when they switced over to whelen there is a website that i think you might find interesting is called copcar(dot)com

  • That siren was actually a Mars siren. Mars also makes the 888 occillating light

  • @PolizeiPaul they did in teh blues brodders movie

  • 2:07, there's that classic FS wail 'drop' tone! We have a few of these in storage at the FD. I miss our old 70's rescue van, lol!

  • 2 of the engines at our local dept have this siren in them

  • but they always use these sirens in movies instead of the new ones.

  • This is one of the funniest sirens I've ever heard. xD

  • Blue Brothers siren at 1:57! YESSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • Yeah, what is up with the Chicago sirens in that movie? Do you think they had these siren tweaks on, as in this clip?

  • Nearly all siren sounds in movies and TV shows are added by the audio engineer in post production. A FedSig PA20A siren was recorded by a sound technician back in the late 60's so the electronic siren sounds could be used in movie productions, etc. The "in between" mode sounds were also recorded and used. Shows like "Emergency!", "Adam-12" used the manual mode sounds from the PA20A for all their shows. There were also sounds recorded from a Federal "Q" siren as well.

  • Cool thanks :) Ever seen the movie Blues Brothers?

  • Trying to get some Ultra Hi-Low in there at 1:30? Lol...

  • I actually like the way that sounds. :-)

  • It was a reference to Unitrol, which Pimp uses and got me hooked on. Watch his demo vids of his siren.

  • I had a friend that was talking about doing that back when he was on the FD. They could be useful.

  • Ha nice. This is what my PD uses. Are the weird tones a fault of every PA200 or just that specific one you have?

As long as it doesn't cause any shorts or anything, those funny tones could be useful.

  • Your PD still uses PA200's? Wow. You can produce funny tones on any PA200, and since they are old, it won't take all too much to ruin it by the funny tones cause chances are, people did it alot on the unit, that is if you find one that works. Trust me, I found out the hard way. :/

  • What exactly is the GAIN of the siren?

  • Probably adjusts the RRB/PA volume.

  • As far as I know, all Federal electronic sirens with 2N2925 transistors in the siren oscillator circuit can do those weird tones. It's just the way the circuit is designed.

  • COOL
