u got to take out the tray and the spinner the xbox game it might be lose or do the thing when u make the xbox read with no game then put the game in it might work if those dont work order the xbox 360 tray
I tried what I thought was everything to be done. The last simple thing I did worked. Still loud but works. Required to dismantle your 360 but do not prefer this if still under warranty. My 360 would not read any disks what so ever. Took a Q-tip with some alcohol and cleaned the eye of the lazer. Whala it worked. CD/DVD cleaner disk would not work because it could not read the disk. Now the 360 reads every disc I put in it.
britishbulldog2008 has the fix to your problem. The best thing to do is to get a multimeter from Radioshack or something and lower the left screw (potentiometer) by 0.1-0.3k ohms at a time until you have it fixed. If this doesn't work, you will have to get a new BenQ laser. They're pretty cheap on eBay and simple to install.
It's an easy fix, there are two screws on the laser module turn them both a quarter turn clockwise and it will sort out this little problem, it worked for me.
Your laser has slipped and is not able to do the read in hence why the laser goes back to it's starting position, turn the screws i told you about and you will move your laser closer to the disc and fix the problem.

Anyone looking to fix there drives? buy a new drive, make sure its the exact model, theres 3 types. take apart the xbox 360 casings take out the drive, get the new drive, unscrew the back, carfully take out the circuit board, it has 3 or 4 ribbon wires. unclip it from the drive. do the same for the old drive. swap the old board into the new drive. boom new drive with out flashing cause the board is already flash to your xbox and hardware is just hardware. works like a charm mines going on 2years

The reason why it's not reading the game is because its either your turning the 360 off while the drive is out or the laser is melted. I got my 360 fixed last week for 100.00 at 360 Pros in new york. For people who live in NY it takes 30 minutes. For people across the country it takes a week.

Ok does anyone know why my Xbox says "can't read disk" while I play games that are fully downloaded off the marketplace. It also occurs randomly throughout C.D. games. I have tried many different C.D.s and many different downloaded games and the same thing happens. It randomly says "cant read disk". no the problem is the type of disc drve,i have had the same problem and i bought a new one and took the chip out of the disc drive sodered it into my new one it worked for a day to 2 days the BENQ DISC DRIVE THEY ARE PIECES'o'SHYT
If you want to fix this problem yourself you need to unscrew the laser from the rod that moves it forward and backward and move it back an eighth of an inch to a quarter inch away from the disk drive motor.
The Grinding noise is NOT the disc gounging issue. Take the drive apart as he did. Remove the spiral worm bar, remove the plastic "teeth" piece that touches the spiral bar. These move the laser to read. This gets dirty and grimey. Clean it and re-lube the bar and teeth. replace and the girnding noise stops.
mine used to work with tapping techniques but now it doesnt it make a strong grinding noise if i tap it and it will keep making that noise till i stop tapping then it will say open tray

mines sounds the same and has the same prob but i fixed it. With a cttoon bud give it a clean out. The open up the dvd drive thing which uve done. Find the laser diode and clean it and with the cotton bud move it a little until it central. After i did this my xbox sounded new and worked!!!

I just fixed this problem by opening up the disc drive, and one of the gears inside we jammed, pushed it a little, thing clicked right back in place and problem was solved...

I had 3RROD 2 weeks ago, and spent lots of time on looking for a quick guide that works. I wasn't intended to spend 100 bucks and wait days for repair. I eventually found a nice guide on 3REDLIGHTS (.) INFO and managed to repair it in less then half an hour. Hope it helps.
I have a similar issue, the DvD drive has games it doesn't want to play until I warm it up with one that does work. It makes a similar noise, but for longer as if trying to load it, than stop.

1st the Disk Drive not opening has to do with the black rubber band connecting from the motor to the main drive gear.
2nd The Problem about starting a Disk is from the worm drive problem. The Worm Drive is a Big Golden gear connected to the motor that makes the lazer lens, head, and assembly move. Your Worm Drive is sticking, or not accepting any commands it's receving, Causing the Problem. Search on youtube XBOX 360 Samsung Fix for a list of problems.

The Grinding noise is NOT the disc gounging issue. Take the drive apart as he did. Remove the spiral worm bar, remove the plastic "teeth" piece that touches the spiral bar. These move the laser to read. This gets dirty and grimey. Clean it and re-lube the bar and teeth. replace and the girnding noise stops.

but it was not a 30 second fix :/
i regreaced up the motor.... that got the Disk spinning faster :) but then the lazer could not focus on this disk :/ so ive bought a new disk drive ^_^

@BKsMassive I have that problem, but my laser doesnt shine at all anymore. i realigned the disk, the disk is spinning now, but the laser wont stay on long enough to read the disk.

@BKsMassive Yeah same here. My laser will shine for maybe 2 seconds if im lucky, then it stops, but the disk will keep spinning for a while. Plus the laser doesnt move it just shakes.

@BKsMassive I fixed my xbox without havin to go out and buy a new one. now bill gates wont be gettin another 250 bucks from me! I had to do a lot of work to it, DO NOT TWEAK THE LASER, i can almost guarantee its not the problem. i had a problem with the laser not moving up or down it would try but not succeed. i did that bumper thing, and i got the play dvd thing, than i dicided to take a laserand its motor from two other broken 360's, and it started working again.

mines sounds the same and has the same prob but i fixed it. With a cttoon bud give it a clean out. The open up the dvd drive thing which uve done. Find the laser diode and clean it and with the cotton bud move it a little until it central. After i did this my xbox sounded new and worked!!!

I just fixed this problem by opening up the disc drive, and one of the gears inside we jammed, pushed it a little, thing clicked right back in place and problem was solved...

I had 3RROD 2 weeks ago, and spent lots of time on looking for a quick guide that works. I wasn't intended to spend 100 bucks and wait days for repair. I eventually found a nice guide on 3REDLIGHTS (.) INFO and managed to repair it in less then half an hour. Hope it helps.

I have a similar issue, the DvD drive has games it doesn't want to play until I warm it up with one that does work. It makes a similar noise, but for longer as if trying to load it, than stop.

You all are all wrong.
1st the Disk Drive not opening has to do with the black rubber band connecting from the motor to the main drive gear.
2nd The Problem about starting a Disk is from the worm drive problem. The Worm Drive is a Big Golden gear connected to the motor that makes the lazer lens, head, and assembly move. Your Worm Drive is sticking, or not accepting any commands it's receving, Causing the Problem. Search on youtube XBOX 360 Samsung Fix for a list of problems.

its making the grinding noise cause you need the little white piece in the top of the cover to hold down the disk....its vibrations i had the same problem but it stopped when i put it bakc together

Everyone PLEASE read what motox6917 says about fixing the BenQ drive. I spent 1 and a half hours trying to get my drive to read my new games and got pissed and decided to try the fix motox described. I moved teh screw on the left from 12oclock to about 11oclock and HOLY F*CKING SH*T it WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loaded all my games that i bought plus old 1 gen xbox games!! If you are at the end of your rope with a Halo edition or Pro with a BenQ drive, try the fix by motox6917!!!!!!!!!!!

if u have an eb games wher u live can buy a new one then if theres any prb with it u can take it back and get a new one on the spot.the only thing u need is the 1 year warranty from eb then ur good to go.
