The image quality of an open MRI depends on whether or not it is high field, along with some other technical factors. It's definitely worth asking your doctor if there is a high field open MRI scan available in your area (and if you happen to be in the Dallas Fort Worth area, Preferred Imaging has both Open MRIs and High Field Open MRIs).
An Open MRI will allow scanning of larger patients, provide image results in a shorter time and offer patients a more comfortable, less claustrophobic experience.
I was wondering if the Open MRI will give a view that is better for A brain/ spine . I am extremely claustrophobic and I have MS. I have a scheduled MRI every three months and I dread it. I have to be fully sedated during the MRI's and it is just awful. This would be a dream come true for me. :)
The image quality of an Open MRI is similar to that of a conventional MRI scanner. The only difference, that the Open MRI device is a better option for too large patients and claustrophobics.
Thank you .I have rescheduled my mri/mra because I am claustrophobic, which someone along the line did not verify. After trying 4 times,I flatly refused in tears.I work in the hospital I was having it at.I was very upset no one bothered to inquire if I wanted the open concept nor did they offer at the time or it would have been done by now.In stead I am off work until this is completed. After looking at this video I doubt I will need the meds to calm down.Thank you
Thanks for sharing this. The closed MRI made me feel like I was trapped inside and endless tube or the entrails of a noisy dinosaur with no way out. I honestly wondered why there couldn't be an open one; and voila, there is!
