I'm happy for Rich Rodriguez and his entire family. As one Michigan Fan who believed in Rich Rodriguez and his spread offense, I hope Michigan sees you across the field in the Rose Bowl early and often. Every great story has three parts: dream, struggle, victory. Rich had a dream to be a head coach on the big stage with his visionary spread offense. He found struggle near the end of his stay in WVU. Struggle followed him to Michigan. In Arizona he will find at last, victory.
I believe if Bo were still around, RichRod would have had unwavering support and would have succeeded. The cupboard was bare after people left early for the NFL or transferred. The loss to App State and Toledo were symptoms of Bo Era crumbling apart. I was sad the day RichRod got fired because I felt the majority of the fans wanted to give him more time, but the minority who wanted him to go were powerful alumuni & donors who in a sense wanted to purchase their next coach named Harbaugh/Miles.
Give RichRod time over there in Arizona. I know he will win and win big. RichRod never had the support Bo Schembechler had when he arrived on campus. Then again, according to the book, RichRod did not ask for the help of those who supported him. If RichRod ends up getting Jeff Casteel, I expect to see Arizona playing for the PAC12 title in two years, but give him his full contract. Even Bo said it takes four years and RichRod only got three.
I just finished reading John U Bacon's "Three and Out: Rich Rodriquez and the Michigan Wolverines in the Crucible of College Football" To sum up the book, RichRod made a lot of mistakes, the athletic department made a lot of mistakes, the alumni made a lot of mistakes with all its factions as a result of Michigan Football having lost its way after the death of Bo Schembechler. If any Arizona fan wants to get to the painful truth of what really happened, Three and Out is a must read.
Its interesting the way he is attempting to embrace Arizona's history. When he was in Michigan he didn't seem to have any idea of the team's rich tradition or history and from what I understand, former players didn't come back to visit very often while RichRod was there. I'd like to wish him luck, but after what he did to my beloved Wolverines I really can't.He destroyed the team and lead the Wolverines to the worst 3 year period in the teams 132 year history.
@maldovelli Yeah well, expect to have ZERO defense to go with that overrated offense. He won't win at Arizona. if the guy couldn't win at Michigan it should be obvious that he can't win anywhere..not at a big time program in a big time conference anyway. His success in West Va in the Big East just does not translate to the better conferences nationally like the Big 10, Pac 12 or the SEC.
Not to mention he won't be embracing any of your school/team's traditions.
