The title is misleading. It hasn't won any awards and certainly is not the best.
You use a smooth surface nonstick pan. Cooking with that material results in terrible food.
The lack of nucleation points makes for gray, bland meat. You must use a real cast iron paan to achieve maximum flavor. No real chef uses that cheap nonstick trash.
More importantly, chili has no beans. What you are making is a bean stew - not chili.
Looks too watered down. I like thick chili, not beef and bean tomato soup. I'd never add Corona to anything. Just like cooking with wine - if it's not something you'd drink, you shouldn't cook with it either. Okay, say it with me hear..."Chipotle"...chi-pote-lay. Good stuff and always have a can around.
You use the most piss-water flavored beer in your amazing made from scratch chili? Come on man, grow a palate. There is an entire world of craft beer out there. You'd be better off just pulling down your pants and taking a wizz into your chili.
Very nice. Since we had kids who did not like spicy hot foods, I came up with a mild but full flavored chili. The adults add red pepper flakes and hot sauce at the table, the kids eat theirs without the fire. Everyone is happy! I really like this recipe of yours and I want to give it a try. Thanks for a great video!
yeah the bald spot has got to go....ok but this is my thing...I say keep it natural and don't use unnatural onion and garlic powder. On a Sunday afternoon we go to church so there's no inbetween time.
@SuzyDtheAsianBee Technically, it is. Grinding garlic and even onions don't change the flavour significantly. Canning things like tomatoes are fine. Look for tomatoes canned in juice not sauce. I haven't met a Gringo yet who can get me fresh tomatoes every day of the year - sometimes the cans are necessary. I can get everything here in Jalisco, so I don't normally used the ground stuff, but it won't kill you seriously! :)
@wakemusicalarm Xilli, the Nahuatl word for the fruit of the Capsicum plants (members of the Nightshade - same type of plant as the tomato) is what the Spaniards called "chile." The Chili here is a concoction of cow meat in a chile sauce originally made with the dried Poblano so called "Ancho." The meat was made "barbacoa" style (cooked underground over mesquite or hickory and then shredded and this sauce was added. Chili powder per se is Cumin, Garlic, Oregano, and Paprika. Great stuff!
Wtf, more veggies and less fat in a chili?? If i wanted a healthier chili would of just bought some vegetable soup. Not only that but he's pronouncing it chipolie... dislike
Real, true chili doesn't have any beans in it. In Terlingua ,Texas, the chili capital of the world, they host their annual international chili cook off. This cookoff is like the clash of the titans. None of the chilis have any beans. now of the history lesson. Chili is short for chili con carne, which is Spanish for "peppers with meat" and really, that what the first chilis were, just peppers and meat.
it is widely believed that chili was invented in Texas around the San Antonio area. It is also certain that the very poorest of people made chili, because it was all they could really afford. People would also preserve it. After cooking the chili they would let the whole pot dry and then cut it into bricks and take it with them on the trail. When they got hungry they would boil water and stir in the block of chili.
Some of the very first commercial chili stands was opened in downtown San Antonio. Women would set of tables in the night and sell chili to people passing by. These women were dressed in bright colors and were known as "chili queens". Hope this answers your questions
Also, if you like chili, you might also like a dish called carne guisada. its like chili, but different. its probably my favorite food in the world. heres a good recipe video :)
removing fat from beef, using endless bottles and cans of ingredients, using the wrong knife for cutting.... when you say CHEF, what exactly do YOU mean? is it a euphemism for someone standing in a kitchen? or do you know how to even cook?
The fat in the beef is what you want for tremendous flavoring in a chili. fresh ingredients and pure imported seasonings would distinguish you from a dishwasher vs a chef.
It's all about using whole spices and a mortar and pestle, and fresh onions and garlic. I like starting my chili like a curry, with whole spices and mustard and cumin seeds in oil first.
mexicans make the best chili, the green kind, red mole, guacamole, some families made chili for generations, and bought it here to the U.S, red pepper, nah. try green jalapeno and habanero, bestest, spiciest, hotesst spices in Mexico, we should thank Mexico for bringing spicy to the U.S.A. bye bye to buffalo sauce!!!
@theholyonefranco I was thinking the same thing, poor guy.. maybe he had surgery or something? As much as I wanted to think about chili while watching this, I just couldn't help but stare at that thing. I had to comment on this again. A buddy just e-maikled this to me to "pick on me." Listen up now. "Award winnng?" Where? Some remote island in the Pacific? The concoction you made is no where near Chili. Three kinds of beans? Best not come to Texas. In Mexico, it's chile con carne where beans are allowed. Only pinto beans and they would rather shoot their first born than get them from a can. This yankee gringo should stick to pot roast and leave the Southern and Mexican food to those that know.
Chili is not a typical Mexican dish, I learned chili cooking from the U.S. so I dont know what youre talking bout. So as far as I'm concerned no Mexican cares how you cook chili, since its not really theirs anymore and most people who cook chili use canned beans anyway.
Chile Con Carne...not a typical Mexican dish? Do your homework Gringo. People in Mexico were peparing this dish before cattle came to this continent. They used goat, racoon, iguana as the meat portion. The vaqueros started using beef way...way...way back. No le digas a un Mexicano de sus comidas originales. La Raza fueron los te pucieron cafe, chocolate, chiles y sabor a tu vida sin cultura.
I am Mexican, nobody in my family, nor anyone I know cooks this as a typical Mexican dish. We cook meat and chile (like mole, salsa verde, roja, ect), not chili con carni. Ooh!!! 13 countries. I did that in the first three years working in the oil field drilling industry. I put in 30 years in all. 13 countries is probably as many as I've forgotten that I worked in. But, this isn't about our travel adventures. It's about knowing who your daddy was. Does your mommy, in case you know her, have an idea who he might have been?
Is that a fact oil field drilling. you made all that money in 30 years and all you have currently to do is sit here and argue with me. what a fuckin loser. (troll)
Now you're getting it. Argueing with a f_______ loser is exactly what I'm doing. Don't bother sending any more caca for the next week or so. I'll be fishing for snapper offshore.
you need to use a strong ale for chili not some light ass corona, stout is beautiful too mmm guinness is soo good in chili, actually a guinness and a shot of bourbon oh god.
I like the chunks of meat idea, but i would definately be using blade steak and grabbing the fattiest cut i can find
i like a lot of vegetables too but why arent you using ground meat?i guess you can call this chunky chilli... ive never seen chili with meat in it that isnt ground meat....it looks good though for sure...thanks for the video
There are so many things wrong with this..where do I start? Its called "Chili" because you use lots of chili's not can after can of tomatos. Three different cans of beans? This is vegetable soup!! Add water? What about stock?? 1/3 of a teaspoon chili powder?? 4 tablespoons cumin?? WTF?? Im sure it tastes good, but this is no even close to being "Chili". Also, this must be the kids version. There was only 1 spoon of Chipotle...my 5 year old eats hotter food than that! Nice try Yankee...
Hey dude at least he tried, I'm sick of reading comments on Youtube that consist of racial slurs and disrespect, Who ever you are I hope you know that your probably classified as a douche so.. :)
Dude, i'm sorry but i've gotta speak up. CHILI?!?!?! That's fucking vegetable soup! "We're just gonna trim up the fat"!?!?!?! Corona light!?!?!?! Water?!?!?! Next time you go to texas, remind the people who invented chili to bitch slap you.
I agree. I like to sautee fresh garlic, onions, serrano peppers with olive oil. The heat factor is easy to adjust by coring out pepper seeds. For more heat habinero tabasco works just fine. And buffolo chuck is healthier and tasts better. Otherwise his recipe sounds interesting.
That recipe would NEVER sell in Texas except for the beer it is not nearly spicy enough. I did however like his efforts to trim the fat and sinew out of the beef. Texans like a little pork and a variety of meat and NO BEANS. Why not fresh garlic and some jalapenos?
the beans go hard if they are cooked for to 2 long and he never put enough cumin in. for a pan that size he should just add 3/4 of the bottle he had. also no beef stock.
Pinto and kidney beans don't get hard unless they run out of water. If they are overcooked they turn to liquid. This is the biggest complaint from people that don't think that beans should go into chili. There are two schools of thought about the perfect chili. 1) with beans 2) w/o beans
your chili is too runny

(troll)
capncummings 2 years ago
Now you're getting it. Argueing with a f_______ loser is exactly what I'm doing. Don't bother sending any more caca for the next week or so. I'll be fishing for snapper offshore.

you need to use a strong ale for chili not some light ass corona, stout is beautiful too mmm guinness is soo good in chili, actually a guinness and a shot of bourbon oh god.
I like the chunks of meat idea, but i would definately be using blade steak and grabbing the fattiest cut i can find
dagarath 2 years ago
i like a lot of vegetables too but why arent you using ground meat?i guess you can call this chunky chilli... ive never seen chili with meat in it that isnt ground meat....it looks good though for sure...thanks for the video
ohioguy440 2 years ago
It is a common way to go... but you need to cook the chili longer to tenderize the meat enough.
JuryDutySummons 2 years ago
There are so many things wrong with this..where do I start? Its called "Chili" because you use lots of chili's not can after can of tomatos. Three different cans of beans? This is vegetable soup!! Add water? What about stock?? 1/3 of a teaspoon chili powder?? 4 tablespoons cumin?? WTF?? Im sure it tastes good, but this is no even close to being "Chili". Also, this must be the kids version. There was only 1 spoon of Chipotle...my 5 year old eats hotter food than that! Nice try Yankee...

boristhespiderman 2 years ago
If that was a Corona beer...Even Mexicans that make more than a few pesos a day don't drink that swill.
cabritorsss 2 years ago
Agreed dude. It's cool to see somebody who actually doesn't like that mess. I'm pretty much the only person I know who doesn't drink that shit.
Every party I go to I have to bring my own brews.

why would you trim the fat!?
it makes the chili so much tastier!
and if it's grass-fed beef, it's super healthy too

I agree. I like to sautee fresh garlic, onions, serrano peppers with olive oil. The heat factor is easy to adjust by coring out pepper seeds. For more heat habinero tabasco works just fine. And buffolo chuck is healthier and tasts better. Otherwise his recipe sounds interesting.
apparition2 2 years ago
That recipe would NEVER sell in Texas except for the beer it is not nearly spicy enough. I did however like his efforts to trim the fat and sinew out of the beef. Texans like a little pork and a variety of meat and NO BEANS. Why not fresh garlic and some jalapenos?
exenrontexas 2 years ago
your right for pretty much everything exept that chili is supoz to have beans
KINGOFKINGZect 2 years ago
the beans go hard if they are cooked for to 2 long and he never put enough cumin in. for a pan that size he should just add 3/4 of the bottle he had. also no beef stock.
deepdishdj 2 years ago
Pinto and kidney beans don't get hard unless they run out of water. If they are overcooked they turn to liquid. This is the biggest complaint from people that don't think that beans should go into chili. There are two schools of thought about the perfect chili. 1) with beans 2) w/o beans
