Thanks so much for keeping the sound clips short and sweet, with no long winded talking. Clearly showing the control settings seems so obvious, yet so many people forget or fail to do it...Nice playing, too!
How does achieving distortion happen with tube amps apart from turning them up real loud? As I play in my bedroom most of the time was wondering how you can get that nice break up between clean and crunch. Do you have to buy pedals that drive the tubes to achieve distortion at a lower volume?
@BenMGFletcher If the tube amp has TWO volume controls for the same channel, then you can achieve overdrive effects. Depending on what amp you have it will be labeled differently. Just turn your "Master" volume control up no higher than "1", then begin playing and turn the other volume control up SLOWLY until you achieve the desired amount of overdrive. After that you can adjust the master volume to your liking. The tone will change with the amount of gain so you'll need to adjust them too.
Yeah Shane seems like a great player, not really my style though! Have a look at Chuck Hall he is a fender guy, man he is an ultimate blues man. He's got soul brother!!
Assuming that you like the sound of both equally, the bassman gets to its sweet spot at a much more usable sound level, and it doesn't weigh 80 lbs. Get the bassman, your ears and your back will thank you.

theres no way on earth that the amp is breaking up this much on these settings
i have one and that just does not happen
vver 2 years ago
he's just plucking really hard, and the bright channel breaks up a little earlier
guitarshredda2 2 years ago
so do i, and you're doing it wrong if it's not breaking up on these settings. maybe you're plugging into the wrong input.
the 2 inputs are lower dBs and will give you more breakup but you lose a bit of headroom.

would the nos blues jr be similar for these tones? Going for a buddy guy tone

It sounds like Hendrix because the amp Henrix used (Marshall JTM 45) was based off the Bassman and has the same schematic as well.

I can't decide between the Fender Bassman or the Fender Twin Reverb. Can someone help me out?

teh twin reverb is just so loud
no way ur ever gonna get the natural tube compression and overdrive (at reasonable levels)
the bassman can break up much earlier
i love mine and swear by it with my tele, strat, and sg
guitarshredda2 2 years ago
don't prefer the bassman because its quieter. Its still louder than what your neighbors would consider reasonable. then again who cares about them ;)
EPICFAILSAM 2 years ago
oh yeah definetly
the bassman is pretty damn loud too
