instead of reusing the old "one-way" bolt, why not replace it with an ordinary bolt. That way you can redo this after "X" amount of miles without having to struggle with pliers.
@folerx just bring the old bolts to home depot and look for a similar diameter and thread pattern bolt. the length doesn't have to be the same, just get longer ones. Length can be adjusted via grinder with cutting wheel.
Man, Dichtmasse vergessen und die alten Schrauben nehmen. Was ist den das für ein Pfuscher. Zumindestens neue M6 Schrauben hättens auch getan. Und die Zange erst....dafür gibt es den richtigen Schlüssel!
@Pellogt only if you have problems. k&n and similar filters with oil film can cause problems to maf. if your car have many miles cant hurt to clean them with contact cleaner.
Just go to Ace Hardware or Home Depot or Lowes and buy a replacement screw...have them make sure the threads match up since you have it apart already.
hey i recently got a "Service Engine Soon" like and got a P0174 OBDII code from auto zone, do you think its because of the MAF? Also every time i start the car it under cranks the first and sometimes the second time... What could the problem be? Think if I clean my MAF it will clear the SES and stop the under-cranks?
For the M3 E46, the sensor is a bit different. but over all it's basically the same thing. Just few hours ago I cleaned my MAF sensor. Everything went perfectly fine. Very easy to take out, Sprayed it about 4-5 times. I think the hard part was to find the right tools. You need something called "TORX" screw driver, to unscrew the screws, size T20... but over all easy job to do...
hey man today i added to my fuel a "STP fuel injector cleaner" . what do u think of that? because my mechanic said not to put anything its just a waste of money. But i thought anything for a bit of fuel economy.. what do you think ?
you cant loose with that. but, sometimes cleaners can dissolve deposit from reservoir or fuel lines and that pieces can break injectors. If this happen you can always clean it with ultrasonic method.
Do you know if it's the same with the 2004 E46 M3 ? I made a little research and by cleaning the MAF it will help to stop the "jerking" Seems like there were a lot of people with that problem, everytime they would start from a stop on first gear the car would just start jerking, back and forth kind of movements... and it appears by cleaning the MAF it helps and solve the issue...
yes, you can use same procedure. maf on e46 m3 is hot wire type, where in e36 m3 is hot plate. Simply buy crc mass airflow cleaner and your maf will be like new. Some people clean hot-wire maf with alcohol. NEVER physically touch with anything!!!
@anonymousangel11 I'm not reallt the one to ask I don't have much experience with cars, especially BMW, I own a Toyota Celica. Cleaning the MAF is one of the first things I would do because it is easy and doesn't cost anything. I'm sure jerking can mean a variety of things.
You should probably change those bolts, if you do it again and the pliers break the heads it will be a pain in the ass. Will probs be fine though, shows how important sensors are on a fuel injected car.
Yea I think I am just gonna leave the maf in there and spray thru the vents... That's why they give u the straw...lol
Hope to get bettwr gas mileage cause I am only getting 22 mpg hwy.. :-(

If you live in the UK, you can buy a specialized MAF cleaner manufactured by CRC, on eBay UK.
It's not worth the trouble damaging the sensor by using anything else.

Why didn't you replaced the screws? :)
oradea1977 8 months ago
hey just so people know, those screws are a bitch and a half to get off...
so I found it better to leave the sensor there and just take the section of the intake off, and than just spray the sensor through the tube.
This is as easy a job as putting windshield washer fluid in a car!

I have a 92 BMW 525i and my massive airflow meter has 6 male prongs but there are only 5 female in-puts.
Is ok to go ahead and use the MAF with 6 prongs or do I have to find one with 5 prongs?

went to grab another one at the wreckers but the one they had that would fit was a 4 pin and mines a 6 pin :@
will cleaning it fix it?
