Nice Job Bro! I've got the VAC 45.... I think I'm gonna ask Sam about a 15" Extension cab... got some questions for you though about settings and booster pedals?
Nice Job Bro! I've got the VAC 45.... I think I'm gonna ask Sam about a 15" Extension cab... got some questions for you though about settings and booster pedals?
How did you learn the notes for the SRV song's? By ear, tabs, music sheets or other? Your timing is excellent. The number one characteristic that 90% of the guitarist on youtube are missing. Also fineseand palying the notes precise(clean).
Do you have a demo?
You need to be starting your own blues band and start touring.
@cgambarrotti Everything I play was learned by ear. I agree that timing is huge, it took me a long time to realize that :-) You can find a bunch of my old music at StevieSnacks...
If your total compounded overdrive was on a scale from one to ten, I would say yours maybe around 3. It sounds like SRV is maybe around 4 on this song. Otherwise, amazing playing. I wish I could practice hard enough to do this.
just wondering if you think the tone is much better using a clean boost, rather than turning up the gain on the amp. i noticed the gain on the amp was only half way, and it would seem if you turn the gain up 4 notches you could have the same sound and delete one pedal out of the chain. let me know your thoughts please.
Ok, between the new amp, the explanation on tube amps workings and this demonstration...I've gained a new respect for his guy. Now maybe I'll listen a little more to what he's saying.
I guess about as close to stevie as ill ever get is my 97model srv strat although i do own a guitar pick that he pitched into the crowd in a 1985 concert along with the ticket stub from the concert. The last time i researched it the pick was valued at about 850.00 it just happens to be one of the most desirable multicolor picks. Lucky Me i guess.
Man i would give anything to be able to play like that. I have owned a guitar my whole life though i laid it down for many years i picked it back up a couple yrs. ago and i have been very serious about it. i eat, sleep and breath music now, but i just cant seem to get pass the fairly simple stuff. It almost makes me want to quit trying. It seems im better at listening. Your a GREAT player.
Would you say that the thing that makes one neck pickups tone different from another neck pick up, considering we are talking about high quality ones like fralin, lollar, & rocketfire, would be the OHM number???
For example, the Fralin Blues Special neck is 6.2K and the Lollar Blackface Neck is 6.4K so...
Do you think think there would be a big difference in tone between those two pickups since they are both high quality & almost the same Ohm???
The difference between any of these pickups and stock pickups is huge. The difference between one set of high-end pickups and another set is less of a difference in my opinion. I've tried 3 different brands and they've all made me happy.
I'm not hearing a big difference in tone after you switch on the Boss GE-7 EQ here.
Question:
are you able to achieve better lower volumes with this Samamp 23 vs the Blues Jr, seeing how you can take the Samamp down to only 3 watts, and the Blues Jr is 15 watts?
The GE-7 boost is pretty subtle on the video, more noticible in person.
For absolutely, whisper quiet, overdriven tone, the blues junior is better. The Samamp does not get as gritty at really, really low volumes, when compared to the Blues Junior with the input gain maxed, and the master set to low.
But past a certain volume threshold, the Samamp is in a different league.
Thanks for posting this! The amp sounds good! I'm thinking about getting one in the next month or two. Yeah you should post one of Life Without You or Lenny using this amp next. Or that Love Song you wrote. The tone is amazing how you are getting that much saturation with out having to use your Nobels or a Tubescreamer.
Not much to say about the playing, since it's excellent as always, but dude, the *singing*....damn, you've been hiding that trick up your sleeve for a while now!
You mind doing "Life Without You" sometime? It'd be sick if you did...
Those are multi-string bends and I'll be teaching those in the "Bending" lesson from my Essential Techniques series, should be out right before Christmas :-)
I improved a lot in the last band i was in with the help of a program called "Singing Success", I still could use a lot of improvement, but am much better than I used to be.
Anthony,,I am having a hard time doing the really fast licks,,I am 41 years old and have been playing for years. Do you have any advice or practice tips to help me get faster?? Thanks for your time. I really admire your talent.
play everything really, really slow, for a long awhile. and with a metronome. gradually raise the bpm at your convenience until you're at (or above) the desired speed you want
I have some spider drills posted over at StevieSnacks in the practice center that were a huge help for me to develop the dexterity and speed necessary to play faster licks.
cool man i did this song too =D allthough i didnt sing lol... so i guess you could say that i soloed over a blues backing. But the Sky is cryn was there in my heart.
If Stevie is such a big influence, is there any reason why you don't have the SRV signature guitar? The Don Grosh and Kenny strat or Stauffers guitars are ofcourse good guitars,
but since you are playing Stevie's style for so many years, have you ever thought to buy the SRV signature strat?
Anyway keep up the good work, and thank you for your time
I never really had the chance to play one, and could never afford it, and then when I could afford it I found my Don Grosh guitar used for about the same price as a new SRV strat.
Hey, maybe you should put up some lessons on singing too. A lot of people who can play blues guitar can't sing blues to save their lives, but you're quite good!
I agree. It kinda got a little like Ive heard this before for second, but then he started "diversifying" and it sounded sick. Overall, it was very good though.

I like to keep the tone of the amp only a bit overdriven, so that during quieter sequences, I can turn off all the pedals and get a cleaner tone.
