Bad American Remakes of Good British Television Shows

The thing with Shameless USA is it's almost an exact shot for shot remake of Shameless UK's first season!. Totally defying the point of a remake, pretty insulting to American's because only the script is slightly altered to cater towards the american accents !

I sometimes find it hard to understand some American accents. American remakes all suck. American Being Human sucks balls. I'm so glad they haven't remade a Doctor Who TV series.

@chrisx665 - No I wouldn't care if the UK Remade our Crappy TV Show's, Now if they Remade True Blood that would be kind of stupid because it is suppose to be set in Louisiana Not the UK, but the UK has remade Law and Order and it's Very Good so You never know

Maybe I'm naive but I sometimes wonder why more American viewers don't get pissed off about everything being remade. Don't they find it as patronizing and insulting that American distributors ASSUME they won't understand the originals?

I know I would. I'm British, and if a show is American, that's what I want to see, not some "Britishised" version of it. It would SERIOUSLY piss me off.  Sure, we may not get ALL the references, but we learn as we go.

I'm from England, and I like the American Skins. The later seasons of the original show have gotten silly, but the American one, while not perfect, captures what I liked about the first 2 seasons, yet makes it different enough to keep me interested.

Worst American remake of a great British show has to be Life on Mars. The British version of Life on Mars is really good. In fact, it's one of my favorite TV shows of all time, but the American version is just crap.

I'm British and the very reason I never really took to Shameless is the same you gave for not wanting to watch the US version.

I was brought up in a very poor street and dealt with 'scum' every day. The people who watch Shameless in the UK are the chattering middle classes who find the plebians amusing.

I watch Doctor Who instead as it elevates humanity and is escapism.

There are not trailer parks "all around me." I've never seen the show but to say that the whole of American culture is around the demographic that is depicted in the show is just false. I am from a very simple blue collar family, so I am not being snobby.

@bingoe4 - Well I live in San Diego California and there are a few trailer parks hear even near the beach, so there are trailer parks all around, You would have to see the Show to understand what they are depicting, I was just saying that there are Trashy people all around the US and as a Show that is Not interesting to Me

I don't know if it is just the cultures being different, but the american office to me represents the complete opposite in humour as to what the british one set out to do in the first place. The US one doesn't play as if it was a real documentary at all, just steve coral acting like an over the top looney.

I think our general tv is probably better, but I am the biggest mark for a handful of usa shows which i love, you do big budget tv AMAZINGLY, e.g. sopranos, lost, true blood.

@IDante1Savage - US may have Big TV Budget, but You guys have the Best Writing there is a reason why every other episode of Doctor Who almost makes You question your morals and the value of life and at the same time makes you cry and feel for a Character they just introduced in that episode then they kill them off and You care.....Thats just Great Writing

I can understand your disdain for american remakes and I agree for the most part, but I thought you were a little insulting to Americans. I have seen one episode of the original Being Human and it seemed interesting. The American version is ok. I had no idea Will Ferrel was on The Office. I like the show although it can be annoying and unfunny at times. I like the character's zany outbursts and the deadpan humor. I need to check out the original version.

There is a us show that reminds me of Doctor Who, but it's very different, it's called Sanctuary. Also if you have not heard, Torchwood is coming to Showtime, it's not a new Torchwood there just continuing it on Showtime.

@goku48071 - Really? Torchwood on Showtime, WoW there are going to be a lot of Gay Sex Scenes since it's Showtime and every show on that Channel has to have Sex in it for No Reason, but I am glad it will be the same Cast and Not an American Remake

Also you are a Doctor you fan right, if yes and if you have seen the newest episode, I would like to know what your thoughts about season 6 is and if you have a theory about how River Song is. I think she is Jenny.
