  • The last few lines between Hamlet and Polonius convince me that everyone should read the bible, if only to understand Shakespeare better.

  • 6:44

  • 2:46 ...OMG David, that was totally on purpose

I see what you did there ;P

  • This is the best bit :)

  • so much Doctor in him! *sigh*

    i miss you, David...

  • "Well..."

oh, David, you're always the Doctor to me. <3

  • Hamlet had a "Miranda" moment at 8:30 :P

  • "Bad dreams." In Doctor Who, wasn't that the harbinger of the Dalek invasion?

  • @AvadaKedavra1138 If I remember correctly it was the Master's resurrection in End of Time. I hadn't noticed that one, though, good call =)

  • He said "well" !!!!!!!

  • @TheHPExperiment Just for that tiny moment he was the Doctor :P

  • where did the socks come from the last scene he didnt have any one

  • i love how hamlets in jeans and socks

  • 4:43-6:38

  • What a piece of work is David Tennant..

  • 4:38 one of the best speeches Shakespeare ever wrote

  • I want those jeans. And that shirt... But most of all I want what's in them.

  • "what do you read, my lord?"

    ".... words."

lol one of the best comical lines

  • 7:32 is awesome, too.

  • David Tennant makes the best Hamlet I've ever seen!

    I love 0:05 and I ADORE 1:32

0:40 - The Doctor makes me happy, too. :)

  • 0:41 "well..." lol the doctor is back ;)

  • i never thought a play such as Shakespeare would have a character go cross eyed and stick out his tongue!!

  • @YuukiHyouketsu Absolutely. That's what it's all about. ;)

But really, Shakespeare is meant to be played in an extremely lively way at times. This is an excellent version of Hamlet.

  • i kinda sorta spent the last two minutes of this video admiring the exposed waistline of a certain player.. hem, hem hem. shakespeare who?

  • @switch1979 I love it when his shirt creeps up. I must make screenshots of this

  • *SWOON* OH GOD ITS THE "Well..." O.O <3

  • he may be 40 but he's gorgeous! and such a good actor as well.

  • I think I really need to watch Hamlet now.

  • 1:33 XD

  • @WazzuppMusic AXCEPT MY LAIFF! xD

  • put the subtitles on. It's all about Clinton getting elected.

  • 0:40 :D

  • @StickyCharmander OH GOD NO. *DEAD*

  • Doctor Who in a nut shell.

  • Oh man, more than anything, Tennant NAILED this performance! It's like I'm seeing him play the Doctor here! This is a great performance.

  • I will take my leave from you

You cannot my lord take from me anything I would more willingly part with

    LOL :D that's too funny :D

  • Tenant perfect choice to play a man faking madness...or really mad...first time seeing hamlet really...my school decided that west side story was more important than shakespeare

  • Lol they did such a great job with this

  • Why are there dislikes for this video

  • @maryjane5193 Rosencrantz and Guildenstern disliked this video.

  • @Madeleinewith3Es Ah, I should have known

  • Holy crap its The 10th Doctor!

  • *screams*

From everyone who knows that Picard also quoted "what a piece of work is man..." to Q.

  • ... *bursts out laughing*

Tennant: *strange face* Except my life

  • Such a weird shirt to do a serious play in...

  • except my life!! lol!

  • ahhhhhhhhh a nutshell or a police box LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • not 100 percent classic but nice.

  • 1:36 best crazy face ever

  • This make me love him even more.

  • 1:38 Tennant almost looks like a zombie.

  • flashback to doctor who when he said "well"

  • When he says "I could be bounded in a nutshell and count myself a king of infinite space," I think of the Doctor, shrunk into the eye of a Tesselecta within the Tardis, such a bizarrely small size...and yet freer by far than when he was god-sized, looming across universe's histories and nearly damned by his own legend.

Yes, what you make your space to be can often determine whether it is freedom or prison.

  • TROLOLOL "EXCEEEPPTT MY LIFEE"

    oh jesus, wtf

  • oh my god, someone taller than david tennent. O.o

  • 1:33 lollolololol xD

  • I have seen Hamlet dozens of times, and have NEVER enjoyed the character as much as this. I never would have thought he'd do this, but this is...magical.

  • @ADCOSKYIA

I totally agree -I have never really seen David Tennant before (not being a Dr Who fan) - but I am a big Hamlet fan and he is fantastic. His Hamlet makes so much sense !

  • Btw the doctor :)))

  • Is this like a modern version of hamlet? Would it help me understand the book, I'm reading it at school....

  • @PeAnUtShItPePpEr This would most likely help a bit. I read Hamlet last year though, and the parts I couldn't understand, I used Sparknotes c: But yes, this is a more modern version

  • @Aiboluvr thx mate ;)

  • @PeAnUtShItPePpEr This will help you understand the PLAY, not because it's a modern version, but rather because Tennant is able to portray to you that Hamlet isn't insane. He's got everything perfectly under control, until the end atleast. He's able to show you that Hamlet is a puppet master, he controls everyone around him with his lunacy. Hamlet has an IQ twice that of everyone around him, cept maybe Polonius. Tranio and Hamlet are easily the most intelligent characters in Shakespeare.

  • who's Polonius here?

  • @diddymuck The old guy near the start of this part

  • @slightlyinsaneFTW right. I actually meant who's portraying him?

  • Hes not mad, hes BRILLIANT!

  • O_O This. Is. BRILLIANT.

    Genius!

  • The way he makes Shakespearean dialogue sound so natural...the man's a genius.

  • I can't take him very seriously in that epic shirt...but he plays Hamlet so so well never the less. Probably my favourite scene in the whole play :)

  • this man is a fucking genious

  • He's completely nutters. -jawdrop- Such a good actor. Holy crap.

  • best lines of Shakespeare interpreted by the best actor!!!

    "words, words, words"

    "except my life!!!"

    :D

why am I so allured by mad guys?!

  • ROSENCRANZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD!

  • (Watch the fangirls come out - even with this introduction)

Who is this Doctor character everyone keeps talking about?

This guy playing Hamlet is okay, but couldn't they have gotten someone a little better-looking?

  • @koenan1 Google Doctor Who. Makes things easier. And You don't think he is just the tiny bit gorgeous? Plus its not so much looks as acting skill... which is excellent.

  • @koenan1 (Gasp) i recommend 'doctor who' if you <3 sci fi..if you dnt..thn alright lol bt still google it :D bt just 2 define "The Doctor" character..On the Show called "Doctor Who" his character is of a species called a TimeLord..He cn travel in Time & Space in a disguised spaceship. A Police Box wich is Bigger on the Inside. (I sound completely nuts). He brings humans along with him & we call them companions and they fight aliens. TimeLords have 13 lives..they cn regenerate. David is the 10th

  • @koenan1 "was the 10th"***

  • Hamlet, why art though a cheeky bastard?

  • i love this version. David is the best hamlet EVER! >.<

  • I mean this as a compliment to Tennant -- watching you do Hamlet makes me forget for the moment about the Doctor (and I love the Doctor.) Such versatility. Well done and thanks for your interpretation. I understood more of Hamlet than I ever have before. Best wishes in your future endeavors.

  • Is it just me, or does that muscle shirt seem to have an 8-pack?

  • Best lines in this scene:

-"For you yourself, sir, shall be as old as I am, if like a crab, you could go backward"

-"Will you step out of the air, my lord" -"Into my grave"

    -"These tedious old fools"

  • @cooliofizzyizzy

i quite like; 'I will most humbly take my leave of you' 'You cannot, sir, take from me anything that I will not more willingly part with' HAHAHA

  • I dont like the costuming though. It bothers me. The setting and the speech make the clothes stand out in stark comparison. In a negative way.

  • Probably one of the most unique versions of Hamlet I've seen in a while. This is one of the reasons I love Tennant so much.

  • What do you read, my lord?

    Words.

  • 4:25 HOW did he keep a straight face! i burst out laughing at Tennant and he wasnt starring at me!

  • This is my favourite scene ever :D So funny :)

  • Polonius: what is the matter, my lord?

    Hamlet: Between who?

    i always loved that line

  • Hamlet: Then is Doomsday near.

Me: Don't make me cry you bastard that was the saddest episode ever Dx You better friggin apologise!

Hamlet: *lies down and spreads his legs*

Me: Or you could do that °_°

  • @Daphnegirl93 That comment actually made my day!! :D

  • @Daphnegirl93 Best. Apology. Ever.

  • @Daphnegirl93

    Please.

    Die.

  • 1:40 can i marry you?

  • @sora201 Yeah, just get in line. But go quickly, cause there's a million other girls on the planet thinking the same thing

  • Was such a orange shirt common in the 16th century? Or his jeans?^^

  • @666HellTiger Nope... Security camera's were, though.

  • 0:55 Was such a shirt common in the 16th century?^^

  • Also, Hamlet, You are the king of infinite space... AND like you bind yourself in a nutshell, your ship binds itself in a blue box.

  • His face while Polonius is listing all the types of plays is priceless...

  • 7:45...more of the doctor

  • the 'Well...' at 0:40 was so the doctor

  • first time ever I laugh at any classic write... anyway, it is fun to see hamlet with such a shirt and such a behavior.

if I had done that in class, I would've been thrown out of it. wait a minute : i did worse : laughing as i was playing phaedra's death scene... (I was playing phaedra, or a laughing out loud phaedra). and i haven't been thrown away : i didn't think classical pieces and humor would do well together, but i was wrong...

  • @audy881 Any classic written by Shakespeare has a very generous amount of comedy - even in the tragedies.

  • @RandomNPC15 oh I know it, it is just that my teachers didn't seem to realize that fact...

  • oh my god when he made the face i couldn't stop laughing i had to look away it was too funny david is brillant at playing crazy ppl lol my fav version of hamlet is this one

  • Oh god the expression on his face the first two times he says "except my life..."

it breaks my heart every time i see it

  • Rosencrantz really messes up, blows up the whole gig " My Lord we were sent for"

  • (3;09) To be compared with the orginial text: Hamlet: To me [Denmark] is a prison. Rosencrantz: Why then your ambition makes it one. 'Tis too narrow for your mind. Hamlet: O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space—were it not that I have bad dreams. Guildenstern: Which dreams indeed are ambition, for the very substance of the ambitious is merely the shadow of a dream. (was removed from tennant's hamlet)
  • I love his orange shirt with the abs :D

  • though this be madness, there be method in't. love that line!

  • Best line "I am but mad north-northwest. But when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw" I think I went back and watched that line four times. :)

  • Only in Tennant and Stewart's Hamlet do the players pull up in what sounds to be a mini van.

  • When he said well... I thought of the doctor and when he said as old as I am I was like that's impossible doctor !!!!!

  • OH MY GOD I think I am going to piss myself from laughing this hard "EXCEPT MY LIFE GWRAAH" XDDD

  • When he glances over at the camera at 8:30 I giggled so much. his expression was sooo cute!

  • WELL!!

  • Was this like, a modern Hamlet??

  • @00Steampunkgirl00 Yeah, it was.

  • The way he looks into the camera :D

    as if to say

    he does go on abit

  • OMG 1:34 If i read this in english next year i am so going to do that line THAT WAY

  • wow...when the car honked, I thought it was outside my window

  • This BBC version is the reason I love Hamlet. :D

  • Is that a BIBLE he's reading? LOL! He even threw it away afterwards!

  • Oh god what would the world be like without David Tennant!!!!

  • And there are those who would make mouths at him while my father lived *points at Guildenstern* aahaha... :P

  • his last "except my life" reminds me of Jim Carrey lol

  • David's stomach=best part of the video. Next to David tennant in general.... -3-3

  • The Jephthah comparison is apt. Poor Ophelia.

    Also, nice tie slapping!

  • 7:32 - 7:47 neither Shakespeare's words nor David's gorgeous face could distract me from the amount of skin showing. And the hipbone..

  • @SirKelseyLorraine ditto..

  • WOOOOOOOORDS. I've been planning to get a Words, Words, Words tattoo for awhile, even before I saw this. Waiting for my 21st though. A little over a year!

  • "Except my life." *turns around* " EXCEPT MY LIFE" *puzzled face* "EXePTT MY LiiiFEEE" xD THE FACES HE MAKES <3

  • 1:34- 1:42 and 8:15 are my favorite parts! lmao!

    "Buzz, buzz."

  • EXCEPT MY LIFE...AND THAT FACE! OMG! I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING! He does the best faces. XD

  • 7:47

    the doctor....hahaha yeah.

  • This is possibly my favorate part of Hamlet. :D

  • 0:42 Psychic paper :D

  • I love how, quoting a friend, "Hamlet always intellectually bitch slaps people"

  • @raficies23 The Doctor does it all the time.

  • OOOOO Look at the little strip of his stomach!

  • HE DID THE DOCTOR WELL 0:43!!!

  • Love the shirt!

  • it kinda bothers me that they put the To be; Or not to be speech in the wrong place xD it's supposed to be in Act 3 Scene 1 xDD But I'm just a stickler xD Ignore me :3 It is brilliant tho, very elagantly done :D

  • DT IS SO SPED

    <3

  • I think I just died at 1:14 of laughter...

  • i love this scene, his voice was so cute when he said "words" the first time then i was crying from laughter when he said "AACCEEEPPPTTTT MMAAHHYYYY LLLIIFFEE"

  • lololololololol 2 funny!

  • Except my life XD oh my dear rassilon, what a face!!!

  • what year was this??

  • @flower1997lol i think 2009? or some time around that

  • You can't help to laugh at the first 50 seconds XD

  • 1:39 What an amazing face!

  • I love the way Hamlet breaks the fourth wall at 8:30! X3 Almost missed it too!

  • At 7:34 I paused and stared at his belly :3 You can see a wittle happy trail XD (Is a perv >.<)

  • 0:40 "well." He is secretly the Doctor. :D

Sounds just like him for a while after that line. :)

  • This is my FAVOURITE scene!! I love D.T.'s face. If there's anything you do, watch his face!! I love it! HA!

  • Oh God, to be a mad man is such effort

  • I love How his tee-shirt has musles on it! I love the look on Hamlet's face at 8:27, His eyes are soo big and brown! *sighs dreamily*

  • Still waiting to see the Blue Box O_o .. it's gotta be somewhere!!

  • Yes! He did the wink!

  • 1:32-1:42 lol
