what is the point of this? taking indian percussion out of its melodic context doesnt work, in my opinion. its not just a parody of cimbalom, but a parody of south indian percussion.
All respect to Peter, the tabla player, but he is obviously NOT our collective master as Zollyka claims. Its true I learned tabla from him for quite some time, but my guru on South Indian percussion is Selvaganesh Vinayakram. Kornel's mridangam master is the great Trichy Sankaran. Matyas comes from the Music Academy where he received classical training, and he is also a self-taught percussionist on the drums he is using in Triginta. Peter was a guest on this show.
...you can see appearing in the video their collective master, Peter Szalai, who used to be disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha. And there's also a funny segment: that weird instrument in which Mátyás is playing with the sticks it's an ordinary bycicle wheel (and that part can be considered as a parody of the great musician Kálmán Balogh playing a hungarian-gipsy instrument called 'cimbalom', which is some kind of a balkanian dulcimer...) Namasté!
Triginta is just simply astonishing. I've seen them many times, and I just can tell that thery're even seem to be more amazing when you can catch their vibrations being in front of the stage. All three of these young men are so differently and tremendously gifted that they should be recognized all over the world.
