To those who think it is fake- handwriting analysis of different personalities of sufferers has shown inconsistency to the point that the core, or "main" personality would not be able to duplicate the handwriting presented by various personalities. I can say from experience working with sufferers as a peer support specialist that this is a very real disorder which causes and usually is caused by very real suffering.

To clarify- sufferers of D.I.D. "compartmentalize" parts of their personality, usually to cope with some type of trauma they've experienced during their lives. This results in very rigid divisions in the sufferer's personality structure, to the extent that these other personalities become very real.

I had never heard of this disorder before until I started watching a series called United States of Tara and now I am fascinated with it. I am very sorry that you must deal with this disorder due to your past and I hope that each day you grow stronger in the fight of taking control of your alters.

that's often what happens when you change from person to person. it can be a closing of the eyes, or moving your hand to your head or something subtle like that

Each and every identity has their own perception of themselves. If younger identities look in the mirror, they do not recognized the reflection as theirs.

There is only one body (for a mirror to reflect) so what you are reporting is not true.

I've been watching more of your videos. I find you very brave to post such personal excerpts of your life for the whole world to view and it breaks my heart to hear you talk about your abuse. It baffles me always to imagine how anyone could hurt a child especially one of their own flesh and blood.

2 questions:

1. Your husband mentioned something about you being in a cult as a child. Were you in one?

2. I heard that people blink a lot switching why doesn't that happen to you?

1. My wife was in a cult from the age of 13 to 19.

2. Since each DID system is unique, each switch is unique. Please see this video.

Note the blinking from 2.10 to 2.12 when Hunny emerges and at 2.59 when Denise reemerges. The later switch is more dissociated.

What you may not notice in the videos by Denise & all is when other insiders are close to front. I know when one or many are close since I can observe this in the eyes.

Its theorized that peope who express charachteristics of dissociative identity disorder are actually faking them. The evolution of these charachteristics are almost exactly paralell with how DID is depicted in the media. Although, these people may be "faking" the different personalities it may be considered an authentic disorder due to the fact that people often revert to this kind of behavor for comfort, like throwing up for bulemics. I think this is clearly an act.

Well I read this theory in a college textbook so I think its a pretty reliable source. I think that if you did a little research yourself you might have come across it as well.

But funny you should say that the media potrays this sickness in a "ridiculous" way. I think you are doing what any person, whos perception of DID has been shaped entirley by the media, would expect to see. I bet if you asked those same people to act like they had DID about 90% of them would create a child personality.

Another fact is that it was only last year that I have seen any portrayal in any media. I had only seen it firsthand. So this make your theory even more incorrect.

I think most people with DID would have a child alter or personality . Since they were abused as a child, they grow up seeing that child still as a part of them which is good but they are split. Instead of an adult who is mature but still has some childish innocence, they become seperate. This is very real though. An actor could never do a good job of pretending to have DID.

I hope you take no offense to this because you really might have DID but this video isn't a genuine "switch" to one of your alter personalities in my opinion. One of the beneficial factors of the defense mechanism to dissociate and to have alter personalities is that the personalities are amnesic to what the other personalities experiences when they take over. If this werent true then all of your personalities would remember all of the sexual abuse...
