our familly have three of them we have track days all the time together...
ive found them to be costly to maintain... who do you take your to to get fixed?
paul at auto paris in boxhill does the best job on these,,, the guys a clio specialist if only he were cheaper tho... i need a gear box and dont know where ti find one! and dont want to spend another 4K on it ... brothers one has quad throttle amazing! i know of someone that has the 192 engine and manifold!
This 172 is my brothers and he has only needed basic services so far. Has not found anyone who know the 172 inside out yet but i dont think he has really looked.
Will have to tell him about Auto Paris though.
Quad throttles! Thats sick... u should post up a video of the beast. Once you do cams, exhaust, headers and ecu these things are animals!
@Senninha1960 How long has your brother owned the 172. I'm actually going to Brisbane next Monday to buy a black one which has about 60000k on the clock. Whats it like to own one do they have constant problems I hear bad reliability issues about this car. I know I am going to have to take the car in for its 100 000k to get the belts done as it wasn't done buy the previous owner. I'm worried but I really want one of these cars I hear you fall in love the car after you go for a drive.
My bro has had his for 2 years and he picked it up from an auction with 120000 k's on it. The clutch was very worn when he got it but it is still holding up and still doesn't slip. He had to replace the electric lock in the tail gate but that has been it!
Just make sure you are buying a well maintained car and that is the best you can do. They are a heap stronger then say a Lancer or Astra by far.
You WILL fall in love with it. The power to weight ratio is excellent, they really do accelerate hard and change direction quickly with a flick of the wrist, very firm suspension and stiff chassis.
Even if these things were lemons, which they are not, you would put up with it for the addictive go kart like performance with that angry engine!
How much does servicing cost for clios? Is it quite expensive here i Australia because I am looking at buying a used 172 I'm worried about reliability of these cars and servicing costs.
@cober155 In Melbourne routine service at UltraTune was $200 for my 172, had mine for a year and hasn't failed me. Great car, i love mine! so much fun when you try and push it to its limits
The gear shift is not like a DC2 type R but it is by no means sloppy.
Clutch on this on is a bit deep and they have a firm feel to them, but this clutch is probably only got another 20000km's left in it.
Buy one!!! They are a mental little car, feels like a go kart.. ppl always freak out when u throw it into a corner, they think they are going to die and u just tear it up with no body roll :D
And u can lift off oversteer when u get real aggressive too bro!
gear box doesnt feel that good. But its easy. The clutch in mine is way to precise. its like on/of and pulling away smoothly is harder than you think. Is that a good thing>??

@cober155
This one has had no issues..... just make sure that u purchase one that has been well maintained and looked after.
Servicing depends on who u go to... u will find standard part prices online.

No worries bro, check my other vids. I have one of it going from 0 - 140 kmh but we started off on some loose stones on the tarmac.
They should do a 15.5 quarter mile stock.

It may need adjusting or is getting a bit tired, there should be a bit of linearity
