you know.... i bought a 150mW 532nm laser for $65 shipped. lol 100mW is so cheap. And besides, you can't get that much extra power from pot-modding it. When you do pot mod it, you'll be lucky to get even 40-50mW of power and even then, the diode will die much much faster.

If you notice where he holds the soldering iron and have any experience with a soldering iron youll figure out that either he has hands of stone or its not turned on as that spot gets rather hot (about 330-350°C (626°-662°F hot)which incidentally is also the reason theres a handle just above where hes holding it.... So hes not actually heating it, high chance heating that part will break it quite nicely.

i even have a few (one of them is 300mW and it's never burned anything in the whole time i[ve had it (its a DMX controlled lighting effects laser) this fascination with them being able to burn things is just insane.

big deal you can burn black plastic, pop black balloons and light matches with them. it doesn't impress me in the slightest.

go see a decent laser show and really see lasers do something amazing.

the thing he burnt when he had the soldering iron was something that took the heat down, when he disabled that it allowed all the heat to pass, so he was able to burn the match.

the thing he burnt was a capacitor which smooth out voltage peaks it has nothing to do with "taking the heat out of the laser beam". He also used the screw driver to lower the resistance in the potentiometer, allowing more current to flow trough the circuit, that was what made the laser burn.
