Well I a sophomore at GSU and I must admit I thought that Gsu was the best band of all time until I had been to Bayou Classic for the past two years. I love my school but Southern is on a total different level. They live up to their reputation.

cant remember what year i say battle of the bands with grambling and southern... think it was 08??? but grambling played a song horribly then southern played the same song and the whole stadium roared because they did it 100 times better... i had no bias until that happened... then i decided southern was better.

The only problem with GSU is that they don't haze enough. That is clearly obvious with the off beat clarinet player, the weak upper brass. They don't care. And SU hazes to damn much. That is why they overblow. Everyone knows SU packs power. but if they brought it down just 5% their musicianship would show. What good does it do to have upper brass players that have rediculous range if they have to hold over to be heard. nevertheless SU is the "tallest midget"

most people know grambling because of eddie robinson not the gsu band. grambling makes more appearances because they need to. su gets the invites but tend to turn them down. doc greggs never thought it was neccessary b/c the su band did not have to the were the best. su's band will probably do more appearances with the new director. he needs and wants the attention. he's so country!

I just heard what GSU's problem is...

Intonation...trumpets and mellos don't agree...with the bells either. Those bells are tuned to A440, with new horns that are made to tune at A442. I know some of us don't care, but A442 is the frequency. Also, GSU's music seems to be written for an earlier time, just time to update the music to be fit the musicians they have...
