@Blindside23 I've never put this song in a political context, but since you mention it I can see it. I do recall reading somewhere that this song, Clarity and the Ocean are suppose to be three parts of the same song.
This song is too too good, shame its not as well known as some of their others. If they play this next time they come through my city and we laugh at danger I could die happy, but I'm pretty sure they stopped playing we laugh when Warren left.
Man, I havent heard this song in ages. Brings back good memories. Wish I could find a way to put it on my ipod. Against me will forever represent all of my younger idealistic beliefs.
This band has pulled me through some shit, Even though thier new Almum blows ass this band will be one of my favorites for life, I love you agianst me! Keep on keepin on. Tom Gabel is a lyrical master.
it was a long drunken night as my ex girlfriend was cheating on me, and still the only thing i remember before blacking out was this song playing over and over, im in love with it from that day on.
@monkeyturdman7 They aren't full anarchists... They used to be, but Tom voted for Obama this past election because he believed Obama could change our crappy country.
He's gotten older. He's going to be having a kid in november-ish... i think hes still as ddisposed to anarchy as always, but he's going to be expressing it differently, if at all. I guess he's got other things to sing about, too.
a kid? wow, old Tommy as a dad. lol. wonder what his name will be... and yeah, im sure hes got tons of stuff to sing about. all his older stuff was crammed with anarchist ideals and thoughts, most of which i dont understand. he used a lot of metaphors and im not too good with politics and metaphors.
...What? Im pretty sure most of his lyrics were really straight forward. Thats what made the band so awesome, they had those fuck-the-government sing alongs everyone could get into.
@DL973 If by honest you mean shitty. Used to be my favorite band. I tolerated New Wave. Their newest CD came out, and it is just bullshit mainstream mediocrity.
@lostboyfalkon Everyone has their own harsh opinions about these guys because a lot of people, myself included, started with this band when they were the essence of DIY, heart on the sleeve, no bullshit just music, band and if you saw them back then you know what I mean. Bottom line, I still believe that they can pull together an amazing record. And don't get me wrong, their recent efforts have not proven that but why route against them so hard? THAT is wtf I am talking about. So relax.
@DL973 I truley Disagree if you look at the so called "New Wave" style they have now it sucks and so does their music i would of respected them more if they came out with a rap album
@BlacktopFilmer7 And I'm sure they would have respected you more if you made a record at all. Or started your own label. Or stayed with a band for 14 years. Those are all things Against Me! has done. And what did you do? You wrote a comment on Youtube. MAJOR accomplishment dude. I'm sure your whole family is proud.
I think Against Me! has gone through obvious changes. None of which I consider bad. I do and always will love Against Me!. Then, and now, they are one of the best bands ever. The best three live shows i've seen were three Against Me! shows.
The guy holding the guitar looks like Tebow, which makes sense since against me! is from Gainesville

@prop8604 I've always taken this song to be about 'forbidden love', or a demonized romance.

That would travel one million miles
and ask for nothing but a plate of food and a place to rest"""--Yeah, we're all looking fo that band..too bad it isnt and wasnt AM!......
