I just watched this last night. It was a bit arrogant and artsy, but watch it just for Kevin Spacey's character. He fucking ruled the world in this movie.

I loved American Beauty. Only because of the Lester character though, those parts of the movie were perfect. I thought the teenagers were really lame though, I usually skip through those parts. This was funny though.

@ACE7Drew The characters in AB were complex and impeccably acted. The film was well shot and the story was there. Does it really matter if its "not honest" or unrealistic? I love Louis, but I mean, so fuckin what, it was a well done movie.

@eezysqueezy The dumb thing is that you know the gay writer (Alan something) doesn't think about fucking men in the sanitised way he depicted Kevin Spacey's 'heterosexuality' in American Beauty. So it was actually just a failure of empathy on his part.

@IncredibleGoliath I totally agree with your 'sanitised' comment about the movie. That's why I like this bit so much, because American Beauty does (for all it's positives) have a flaw in it. Who knows if it would have come across more truthfully if the writer had been into the idea of Mena Suvari in a cheerleading costume.

I loved American Beauty. Only because of the Lester character though, those parts of the movie were perfect. I thought the teenagers were really lame though, I usually skip through those parts. This was funny though.
