Epik High is such an inspirational group. I especially love the part when Tablo and Mithra start the chants "I absolutely cannot give up on my dream." I want to just send this song to Tablo right now to give him strength in his comeback.

What is the state of rap in the U.S., then? From what I've heard, it seems like it's doing OK, but perhaps you're a little on the lazy side. Seriously, with the Internet widely available in a lot of countries, why are people still saying that Americans cannot rap like this anymore?
@MelodicWaves Perhaps instead of already assuming that I'm saying something you're so upset about, you should try to understand what I really meant..
What is accepted as rap on the radio has been reduced to crap. That's all I'm talking about. I'm not even talking about underground artists; I'm not even talking about Americans in general. Obviously if one looks hard enough, good music can be found anywhere. But of course, that's not what I'm even talking about.
@MelodicWaves I think it's just the rap that is 'popular' and promoted and widely known in the states isn't as deep as this. Theres the once in a while song that has some meaning, but a lot of it is mostly the same thing. Girls, drinking, money, and the occasional gang bang. I mean, I'm not saying it's all like that cos I know for a fact that there are tons of great artists in the us that make meaningful music. And like you said, the web is available everywhere to discover more music.
when i tell people I listen to rap, they're like "oh i hate rap" so I'm like oh its korean rap then they either are like "Korean? wtf?" or "It's still rap" People here in the US should try opening their minds. I think Epik High are the coolest rappers in the world.
There's something about them that draws you in, maybe the music, lyrics or emotion. I fell in love with this song and was pretty much supirsed, seeing as it's something I wouldn't have been interested in before.
That's RIGHT...Rap is looked down a lot b/c it is used so much in the sense of sex...But Epik High makes it look respectful...They make it look like it's the TRUTH. I'm Asian American...I when it comes to the subject of Rap...Epik High takes it ALL!
with the "a sole monopoly" line, is mithra saying that about his skill? It seems like he using a word like monopoly to say that nobody has his technique and skill. At least that is how I understand it.
Im guessing this is an award show or something but its hard to blieve how everyone is sitting waving there hands its such a strong song I would literally be in tears bobbing my head like crazy lol I guess its just the american way ^^ man, what a change when they do concerts from korea to san francisco and beyond the fans just react differently to the sound of music
@truebluenat i had that thought at first too, with the fans in front, hands waving and stuff, but then i thought how at mtv awards shows and that kind of stuff, you can tell they have these stupid models HIRED to be in front, like 25 year old women waving hands pretending to be in LOVE with the rapper or something incongruous like that. maybe it's similar.
@tsauce35 i think this was one of their showcase things.. Tablo was talking about how they used to do showcasing for their songs and stuff and they weren't big until their song "Fly" came out.
♪ On that side is the end of darkness, where everything changes sides. So, how will I be protected? The answer is easy. FILL YOUR MOUTH WITH A LONG SPEAR AND ASSAULT CRITICISM. ♪ <--- This one is EPIC.
I also felt the emotion when they rap/sang this one. It's so strong. hands down to Epik High. YEAH!
Well, I don't know how about you guys, but when I play this song in Media Player, it shows me the lyrics. And it says there is "lead a fight against by your van"... O__o

"lead the fight against leviathan". sheer brilliance, I think it references Hobbes State of Nature philosophy, which is explained in his book "Leviathan". Basically saying that humanity is inherently evil from the start, and this evil must either be balanced or destroyed immediately
@imnottimm the leviathan in hobbes' books and studies is the state, all the institution made by human in order to control people in a society, for people not to comit crime or something like that, i think epik high try to forward a message of anarchy. @noah9100 Smarter and more talented? Tablo is smarter and more talented than any other musician on the planet. He's a graduate of Standford, he has an amazingly high IQ. And as for his talent, well, it's undeniable.
uh yeah, that comment was written long time ago to someone who had commented on Tablo's face being ugly, though I think it is just fine.

You don't have to teach me anything, and my comment was a response to someone else's.
leviathan is a book that was wrote by the illuminist thomas hobbes...i think the meaning of the word leviathan is "the one who lead a country or a kingdom"...anyway...nice verse
i guess they are trying to say that they will not be phased by all the criticism, jokes, bad things they get they will always keep going in what they do and dont care what people say or do. even if they beat, turned on or fail they will keep going in what they love and do
the intensity. i love how epik high's lyrics are all so deep... all the other songs are about crap compared to epik high. they're just too amazing o.o
I thought about what Tablo meant when he said 'Leviathian' and looked up where else the word had been used. Maybe he could be referring to Satan? I kind of got the idea when I was reading about how in the book 'Paradise Lost' the author used the word to describe Satan, and how some of their songs have other themes related to religion. If not Satan, then some kind of biblical reference? I don't know.
Anyway, thanks for subbing this performance a whole lot of other Epik High stuff xD
The backup dancers deject from the performance :( I think it'd be a lot better if it was just mithra and tablo up there with DJ takutz up there. And Takutz needs a larger DJ set, that lone turntable looks so weak D:
Their lyrics are so deep and meaningful it really gets me thinking. This is by far one of their best songs. I just wish the rest of the world could hear their music and they would perform more often in the US, but they'll put a lot of US rappers to shame. I will forever be a fan of epik high <333
I totally agree with you. His lyrics definitely has more substance than typical rappers in the US or wherever else, coz you seldom hear Tablo talking about women, sex and curves in his songs. Tablo is a talent!! =)
Tablo came out today in a Korean LA Times newspaper, with a headline by him,"My rap is medicine that heals people." or something to that affect. just LUV HIM.
oh my geezz hekka poweerful words; amazinggg i lovee it; i love how the words they usee is really epik; living up to their namee GOO EPIK HIGHH; tablo oppa; (:
Note: Tablo is mostly likely referring to "Leviathan", Thomas Hobbes' work on social construct and order. Hobbes believed that society was inherently bad, and therefore must be controlled by an elite group of intellectuals, which Hobbes' named Leviathan. The reference may also be on the sea dragon Leviathan, a demon associated with the sin of Envy.
thanks for translating!! they never cease to impress me with their in depth lyrics. any chance i can get downloads for your epik high eng translation videos?

i guess they are trying to say that they will not be phased by all the criticism, jokes, bad things they get they will always keep going in what they do and dont care what people say or do. even if they beat, turned on or fail they will keep going in what they love and do

the intensity. i love how epik high's lyrics are all so deep... all the other songs are about crap compared to epik high. they're just too amazing o.o

Anyway, thanks for subbing this performance a whole lot of other Epik High stuff xD

hahaha tablo made the crown go all gangsta
ajdcnddl1 3 years ago 3
The backup dancers deject from the performance :( I think it'd be a lot better if it was just mithra and tablo up there with DJ takutz up there. And Takutz needs a larger DJ set, that lone turntable looks so weak D:
Epikly powerful performance nonetheless!
Feylihn 3 years ago 5
I didn't even notice the back dancers until I read your comment just now.
I was mesmerized by Tablo telling me no no one can take his soul.
:D

wat exactly is this song about???
epcza13 3 years ago
Their lyrics are so deep and meaningful it really gets me thinking. This is by far one of their best songs. I just wish the rest of the world could hear their music and they would perform more often in the US, but they'll put a lot of US rappers to shame. I will forever be a fan of epik high <333
hyoxjinx601 3 years ago 12
I totally agree with you. His lyrics definitely has more substance than typical rappers in the US or wherever else, coz you seldom hear Tablo talking about women, sex and curves in his songs. Tablo is a talent!! =)

^^ Thank you for the wonderful translations.
Note: Tablo is mostly likely referring to "Leviathan", Thomas Hobbes' work on social construct and order. Hobbes believed that society was inherently bad, and therefore must be controlled by an elite group of intellectuals, which Hobbes' named Leviathan. The reference may also be on the sea dragon Leviathan, a demon associated with the sin of Envy.
hellenistic 3 years ago 5
I think it makes more sense to consider it as a reference to Hobbes' "Leviathan."
