I love having to do research to get shit from the Simpsons, partly because it reassures me that I'm not some old dinosaur who would have ever seen something like this.
Whenever I see this commercial, I think of Krusty on the SImpsons when it was still hilarious singing this in his commercial and after it's over, he says "I didn't write any of this crap."
1:02 video: Vesti [No more Rice Krispies commercial], one of three 0:60 operatic commercials created for Kellogg's Rice Krispies in the late 1960s to build new awareness for a well known cereal. Music is a parody of "Vesti la giubba" from the opera Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo (23 April 1857 – 9 August 1919).
@foxracingg101 - - - I don't know whether this information helps or not, but when I was a kid growing up during the 50s, a popular programs for kids was "Gabby Hayes" starring Gabby Hays, a sidekick to such cowboys as Roy Rogers and others. The program was sponsored by Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice. At the end of each show you would be looking directly into the barrel of a cannon, and Gabby would say those lines: " the only cereal shot from guns" at which time the cannon fired. Hope this helps.
We can all thank Stan Freberg for his genius in creating this commercial. If you come across his audio Broadway musical, "The United States of America," you're in for a treat to his twisted version of early American history! Highly recommended!!
I love it! Prince Poppycock sang this on America's Got Talent last night, Aug 4, 2010, and all I could do was sing along the Rice Krispies lyrics to it!
Glad to know I really remembered it and wasn't hallucinating.
It was killing me trying to figure out what his first sentence was. "Barbara, pass the Kellogg's Rice Krispies before it's all gone! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!" That was like a eureka moment for me.
Incidentally, the tenor in the original aria also laughs, but bitterly. Speaking to himself in a soliloquy, he says "Are you perhaps a man?!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!"
And I thought I was the only one that still sing this song. I remember it vividly from the 1960's. Was shown on the Beverly Hillbillies a lot. Thanks..now my kids will not think I'm nuts..lol
I've been waiting for someone to post this one. I have not seen it since it was on in the early 70's. Having seen it again confirms something that i had suspected all these years: The actor doing the singing is the late Johnny Haymer, who would later become Sgt Zelmo Zale in the tv show M*A*S*H. He also had a part as a 17th century constable in a Star Trek episode entitled "All Our Yesterdays."
I wrote the last comment under my wife's screenname BBRN... accidently. Does anybody know the second phrase that the mother in law says? I know the first is " i brought more rice crispys." and the 3rd is " but as long as he's here." I cannot figure out the second phrase she says though.
Lmfao.. My french teacher sang this song the other day...It was hilarious, she's all like " I'm better than the guy is" (Note, I'm on my brothers account o.o)
This advert was the first thing I thought of when I heard that Lyric Opera's broadcast on NPR today would include Pagliacci . No more Rice Krispies is indeed a classic.
THE greatest TV ad of all time -- says the 8-year-old inside of me whose brain waves were irrevocably altered by its brilliance (... yea, I was a bit of a sheltered lad ...)
I remember this commercial as a child. It has never left my memory. I think it's one of the best commercials ever made. It reminds me of the Bugs Bunny opera parodies. Like "The Bunny of Seville." Or "What's Opera Doc."
I like to feel sexy....knowing someone is watching me ..wanting me...turns me on!BADLY! I like to flirt and pose..and sometimes i like to get WILD! how? ..he he..come in video and youll see:-)) maybe u can teach me something..or maybe i will ! come visit me at - MeetYourFling _dot_ COM - my user-id there is aloise-eint chat soon on cam :-) yyhbw
