So Ryan was trying to cheat on Kelly with Karen even though she was dating Jim at that time.also Ryan mentioned the email to Ryan earlier in the episode Jim Knew about because he told Ryan he and Karen were laughing at it. Basically Ryan is cheating on Kelly. Both Kelly and Ryan are insane.

@christentze No particular reason, just the joke is that Kelly's insane and airheaded whereas Rashida's character is very much not so it would be normal for any non-insane character to be taken aback by such a comment
