  • When I was little, my daddy had a cd with this song on it, and this was always my favorite song :) thank you so much for uploading this video!

  • This would be a great lulliby for children.

  • My mom turned me onto this song when I was a young girl! I have always remembered that and found it again with youtube. Thank YOU!

  • Can't believe that people would dislike a masterpiece like this. Some people just have no taste.

  • The BEST version of a wonderful song

  • Give them a cookie. If you say much about the wars we have went through they just might not like it if you post a commentary about them.

  • Censorship on youtube. It is here because they would not let me use my right to speak in this forum that did not have any curse words in my statement about this song. Just did not like what I said because it was the truth. Might not let me post this either.

  • No other group can do it better.

  • I didn't think we had a caste system here, at least not one that includes "one tin soldier".

  • I have never read so much b.......t in my life, what a pack of wa....k..rs you all are.

For goodness sake the song was a protest against the Vietnam war and it worked.

  • @1466002

Me too! The counselor sang this and Pooh Corner. They're really good songs. -3

  • Canon in D

  • Youtube should have a loop bottom so I wouldn't have to click 'play' to listen to this song repeatedly, who agrees?? :-D

  • I love this song.

It makes you think about life.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • this is a great fantasia on Pachelbel's Canon in D . ..

    well done!

  • i rilly like thish song and i only know it because a counchler sang it at a camp i whent to over the summer

  • 23 people hate there neighbors and cheat there friends.

  • i'm singing this song in choir. ^^

  • @DandilionSouls same with us

  • @DandilionSouls we sang it when i was a 7th grader! i love it so much! this was our choir teachers favorite song before she passed! everytime i hear it, it reminds me of her:(

  • @swimbabe567 I also sang this song in 7th grade chorus. I have been carrying it in my heart ever since. One of my most favorite songs. I really love it.

  • @earnest888 i like it a lot. im a very shy person, but i tried singing this for bms idol-sorta like american idol, but it was for my middle school. i didnt succedd because i got too nervous, but i just love this song! it teaches you a lesson!

  • @swimbabe567 It came from the movie "Billy Jack" one of my favorite old movies of all time, this song is so beautiful and it stuck with me forever too, It does provide this world with a lesson it has not learned yet. Turn the stone and looked beneath it, "Peace on Earth" was all it said...

  • i remember when my mom used to sing this and carol king to me to help me sleep

  • I come across so much varied good music on The Simpsons

  • Yup penbayman Igot it backwards

  • The Wall Street mobs should listen to this song.

  • @TOPOFFMAN no the government should listen to this song to form the peoples utopia rather then justifing there actions

  • canon in d

  • the original caste was not canadian Coven who did the song for the movie was Candian

  • @rltmusicman Sorry, no. Caste was Canadian, founded in Calgary in 1966.

Love this song. It made quite an impression on the teenaged me when it first came out.

  • Who relizes that only people with a lot of things to say in there comments are watching this video, P.S also thumb up if your watching this in 2011

  • Nicely done, kids. One Tin Soldier has always been an inspiration for this skinny kid from Surrey lucky enough to be born in 1960. I hope you guys are all well.

  • The original and still the best. I first heard this version in 1970 on Portland Oregon radio stations like KISN, and 62 KGW. KPAM and more, when AM RADIO Ruled. This is on all my oldies playlists.

  • They played it at my school, and i love it :D Now they telling us to illustrated it! CANT WAIT TO FIN IT :DDD

  • this sounds like something from schoolhouse rock haha!

  • @beastdrummer555 not exactly its just really old, and considering how old it is id say its still very good and teaches a lesson.

  • @azeraiga yes i understand...what i should have said is that the voice reminds me of it...and yes the song does have a great message

  • The best version is the parody, "Where has all the Health Care Gone?"

  • I used to think Coven's version was the best. Then I heard this ...

  • Great Story telling in songs back then!

  • @Stallion1964 so tru

  • Have you guys heard the Gimp cover of this song? It's pretty cool, like for real.

  • my mom use 2 sing me this song when i was really young =]

  • BANANA!

  • wonder who the tin soldier is..........

  • it is really sad that when i tell people that i am a muslim they aoutmatily think that i am a terroist i am far fom that muslims bleiv in peace just becaus a few that wernt even muslim did the terrible thing every body thinks we a terrists when we are not so try to love each other then the world will be a much better place priase be to allah

  • @oldman850 IM not even muslim and i agree with statement. So many people thnk that chrstianity is the only religion that should b good but there are so many amazng and fascinatng religions out there that are frownd upon, I just dont get it. like, just because its different doesnt mean its a punishable offence.

  • @oldman850 It would be very helpful if you used punctuation. Then people would understand what you are saying. The faction of Muslim that are Jihadist are so very small in comparison to the rest of the population. The problem is the media are focussing on that minute group and generalizing that all are like that, when that is far from the truth.

  • wel thats not depressing at all.......

  • my dad use to sing this song to me so i could go to sleep. Love You Dad! where ever you are!

  • @Starmadien2019 my mom was just singing this to me lol

  • I've loved this song for YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)

  • gets me every time.. tears swelling up as i type this message..

  • Magnificent lyric... always loved this message...

  • I know the information of the "original artist" says it was the Original Caste, however, my father 55 now - told me that the true original artist was a male singer - he had the actual copy of it on a cassette (relatively beat-up at that) and the quality of the recording is rough. As for coming to a final conclusion of this beautiful moral melody I have to say the original artist isn't recieving credit for their masterwork. Anyone who knows differently feel free to respond. Thnx

  • @aawbgl dennis lambert and brian potter, but was first recorded in 1971 by the original caste as shown above =) your welcome! god im smart... XD

  • They killed a ton of people to get a slab that says "Peace on Earth". Oh, the irony.

  • I remember when this came out, we all stop to think what will come to us!

  • Can you imagine what Peter Paul and Mary could have done with this song? Them letting loose with this on stage? Wow. That said, both this and Coven's are first rate.

  • @sftony123 peace is over rated, and god demand drama.

  • The treasure is "Peace on Earth" - live and let live!!!

  • It's too bad most music collections have this song done by Coven...this is a much better version.

  • 22 people live in the valley

  • I love this song.

  • Would Christian Republicans still be against abortion if they knew the child would be gay?

  • @FlourescentBlack Yes, Every life is precious. I think you are confusing Christians and Republican with people who are lunatics. (i.e. killing an an abortion doctor). Christianity is a religion, Republicans are a political party. I can hold my religous views for myself & accept the right for others to have differing views. And just because i don't want to support every lazy idiot on earth doesn't make me uncharitable or wealthy. As a single parent, I raised a child on my own by hard work.

  • @USASoldierMOM

Do you think Jesus would agree with you about not helping every "lazy idiot on earth"?

    Just askin'...

  • @BroncosWn And just where in my post did I say I believed in Jesus? I honestly don't know what Jesus would think. I also think there's a difference between helping those in "need" & helping those who "want". If you work hard and need a hand, or some kind of disaster hits, I am all for helping. If you don't want to work...well neither do I, but I still do. So, because I have to support my disabled husband and my kid, I should have to support able bodied others? When do I get time off?

  • @BroncosWn i dont mean to offend anyone, but god doesn't choose your destiny he gives you the opportunity to choose your own, and thats my view on it, please reply if u have a diffrent view or insight

  • @BroncosWn Actually, yes I do. God helps those who help themselves. (I meant idiot metaphorically, not intelectually.) If there is a legitimate reason a person can't support themselves, I do not have a problem. But, if it someone who just doesn't want to work...well, neither do I. Yet, I keep doing it. Too many kids now are growing up with entitlement issues. They expect everything on a silver platter and are verbally abusive when you don't agree with them on an issue.

  • @USASoldierMOM What exactly does that have to do with this beautiful song, don't besmirch a lovely song with your diatribes of laments of the new generation, they will always fall behind in the lasts view.

  • @julikem Actually it has nothing to do with the song. i was replying to @FlourescentBlack who interjected a comment regarding abortion and homosexuality. I think this is a lovely song and it is actually one of my all time favorites. It is so meaningful. However, you are correct, I wasted my time replying to a troll. (I know, please don't feed the trolls.) Sorry. Didn't mean to take ANYTHING away from this song!

  • @USASoldierMOM So in other words, because you suffer and you think your suffering is inescapable, everyone else should have to suffer as well. That philosophy will sure help mankind move forward.

  • @PomegranatePizza No, it is because of suffering that people become hateful of suffering itself. The will to stop it then rises up from you, suffering actually makes people want to change things for the better or to wallow in self pity

  • Would Chron if they knew the chicld would be gay?

  • Emily Sang us this to get us to sleep <3

  • Again I cry a little when I here this song

  • My dad used to sing this to me when i was a little kid i still remember it to this day one of my favorites!

  • Best version ever.

  • @Tonithenightowl It's the original version. Many people don't know Coven did the cover.

  • @minkymott Coven had a great version. I think the Original Caste did the song for the movie, Billy Jack. That's the version most ppl remember listening to bc it was a big deal when the movie came out. :o)

  • *sighs sadly* oh how i wish i was born in this time

  • I grew up hearing Coven's version, but I like this one best, even though I never heard it until recently. (Thanks, YouTube, for helping us discover a lot of nice stuff!)

  • nervous become relax

  • She has a great voice

  • This was a great tune sung by Dixie Innes. I don't know if Dixie still performs but I found a video of Bruce from 2005. They - or Bruce composed the theme song for the Seattle World's Fair. Awesome talent from Sundre Alberta Canada.

  • This song is so amazing. It's incredible. One of the best.

  • i'm from australia and i adore this song!!! i remember singing this in my yr 8 choir class...just beautiful <3 =)

  • Definitely the better version! :)

  • nothing sounds better than this song in mono

  • My favorite version--the first!

  • This song is punk rock. 8-)

  • WE NEED A NEWER VERSION OF JOAN SINGING THIS.

  • Canadians... just saying :)

  • I totally agree with Janab791 my mom used to sing it to me when I was little also. I'm trying to find the slower version if any one knows please tell

  • ccr shhould cover this song

  • This is an amazing song, my mom sang it to me when I was little. It is a little more upbeat than I expected. Someone should remake it. Slow it down and have someone like Dan Fogelberg or John Denver sing it.

  • @janab791 How about a duo of Dan Fogleberg AND John Denver, along with Al Jolson and Elvis singing backup, with Jimi Hendrix on guitar and Keith Moon pounding on the skins and Mama Cass eating a ham sandwich on the side?

Wait, they're all dead. Except maybe for Elvis. I think I saw him in the buffet line at Circus Circus recently. Then he left the building.

  • that would be a neat trick John Denver is dead probable suicide dived his experimental aircraft into a lake

  • @janab791 i would have loved to have seen janis joplin do this song

  • this is a good version, but isn't it amazing how someone can redo a song and make it so much better? lol Love Joni's version.

  • @godwhyisthistaken to my SURPRISE it was not sung or written by joni mitchell...

  • Me First and the Gimme Gimmes really know how to pick the songs they sing and make punk versions of. This song really is great.

  • I love this song. I can imagine it now on an epsoode of the Smurfs. No disrespect..

  • They used this song in the Billy Jack movies, way back when.

  • aww it almost made me cry

  • I don't care how much fun I get made fun of for liking this song. It's worth it!

  • Like Mom's version best : )

  • best song ever written to date, thankyou for sharing this

  • holy toledo, what an awesome song :)

  • songs like this give me a lil hope in humanity

  • Cute song

  • This is the best version of this song. Others are very close but I dont really like them. The original, is allmost allways the best, as in this case. So go ahead and listen to it, go ahead tell a friend, He wont give a dam in the end.

  • my mom used to sing this to me when i was little... i love it

  • @sidwellian2012 mine did too! it's weird how it really kind of mystified it for me as I got older

  • You people are all full of shit. This band started at a local coffee house in Calgary called the Pigs eye. I was there on a regular basis. They used to play with the Brute force jug band. Now there's a bit of history for you. My name is Inge. I was there from the beginning.

  • One of my favorites and one of the few I remember ALL the words to.

  • What I love so much about this song is the tone; there is a feeling that, if the Mountain People could come back from the dead (or in spirit), they would still embrace the Valley Folk in warm, heartfelt hugs. Though brutal, the Valley Folk are still our Brothers, and we must Love them All the Same. An Eye for an Eye Makes the World Blind.

  • PACHELBEL

  • Love this song!

  • sunnychopper82, is there any chance you can post the song " When Love Is Near ? "

  • THIS is the version that was being played on am radio in the 70's, not the second rate one by coven. this is the one i haven't heard since then until now.thank you for posting it. i was sick of the coven one the first time i heard. as great as the song is, the moviie was a sorry piece of hippie bs.

  • Ya know, I have sung this song since 1970! I never really listened to the words until today. My best friend and I got cooooovered in goosebumps. Wow what a message!

  • Peace is better served by resolving our diffrences. The pen that writes the peace treaty is mightier than the sword that starts the war. Even the most just war kills innocents.

  • As to the comments I see here, this is exactly why this song was written. War is never justified. Defense IS. WWII was a justified war, Iraq in the beginning may have been, likely we won't know until 20 years down the road. There is always someone to start wars and always someone to fight them, but unless you fight to protect whom you love and what you believe in then what you fought for is as hollow as killing in the name of "peace".

  • Been years since I heard this. My father used to sing it to me since I was 3. Maybe it's why I'm a pacifist.

  • whats with all these negative comments about? This is a song about peace and I see no peace here.

  • I was about 6 yrs old when this song was out & I still remember all the words like it was yesterday!!!

  • Valley People = Native Americans. Mountain People = Other Native Americans.

  • @IraMcGurkin That was unecessary.

  • MAN FEEL THE LOVE IN THIS ROOM. COME PEOPLE NOW SMILE ON YOUR BROTHER NOW TRY TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER RIGHT NOW

  • Morality is subjective.

  • Type "gift" in the search bar before youtube!!!!

  • 15 people didnt turn the stone

  • Valley People = Europeans. Mountain People = Native Americans.

  • @cobrachoppergirl

Seriously? Leave your racism in the 60's where it belongs!

  • @cobrachoppergirl i dont think that even is what its about.

  • @cobrachoppergirl Interesting take. I believe it's a more universal meaning. The wise and the unwise.

  • @cobrachoppergirl And everyone else? Where do they fit in? Nice ignorance there.

  • @cobrachoppergirl quit trying to bitch about society. we don't need any more snide racist comments than there already are. complaint fail.

  • i love these :D

  • this. song.

  • Awesome tune from "The Legend of Billy Jack" what a great movie! Saw it a in the back of one of those strech wooden panel station wagons at the drive in as a kid.

  • Coven does a remake its terrible.

  • Everyone have sayings when it comes to killing others

  • Sounds good "The Original Chaste", wonder how they got that name?

  • @sweetredredwine It's actually "The Original CASTE", not "Chaste". But that would have been an interesting moniker.

  • This song is great ... Love to here once more

  • so many great anti-war songs out of Canada that America has adopted

  • Justice for the Red Headed StepChild Archon Michael...vengeance is his sayeth the Lord.

  • I'm totally gonna form a cover band called The unOriginal Castle and all we'll ever play is this song over and over and over...........and over.

  • @Horhayj I'll play bass. We sang this song, in music class...back in the day.:-) kinda dating myself, there.

  • @Horhayj Thats awesome, can I play one of the bell things?

  • Comment removed

  • we sing this song in choir.

  • This was a camp fire song I heard when I was in summer camp :)

  • it's all about colonization...going into another land and killing for the rights of the corporations to exploit

  • sorry to hear that mike ..i know its a small consolation but i thank you for fighting for our freedoms..i shook a vets hand at a gas station one day (he had the veterans license plate)and thanked him and he said i just made it all worthwhile.so if i could id shake your hand .without people like you we dont have the freedoms to post whatever we want.

  • those mountain people are legendary trolls.

  • For a child-sounding song, this has a very deep message, especially in today's world with terrorists and the war

  • "Hey guys! We are more than happy to share with you! Have all you want!"

"FUCK YOU WE WANTED IT ALL, BURN IN HELL!!"

*Upon discovering that it was an Ironic message*

"Well now we just feel silly."

  • 2:04-2:10

So apparently their treasure was Irony.

  • Anybody know where we can listen to The Original Caste's equally great "Country Song" or "Picture of Bob Dylan"? There's no hope using iTunes.

  • @SatNamTree i have been looking for country song for a few years and still no luck

  • @fetterov To make matters worse, I'm the guy who gave away a first press vinyl that my old hippie sister gave me when I has only 5 yrs old!

  • My God I love this band...unbelievable talent!

  • Being on the left does not make you a Christian and God can't make you a Christian by someone else's word. The one who came up with justification was not Christ. Give the song another listen.

  • I love this version .

  • Wow, that dude on the far right of the picture has an EPIC mustache.

Anyhow, absolutely love this song. Remember the Christian Left? They exist, honestly, and they need to speak up more often.

  • sunnychopper82 Is there any chance that you can post the song " When Love Is Near ? " I haven't heard it for ages. Always thought it was a nice song.

  • This has got to be one of the worst songs of all time
