Hiawatha was a real person who was a Mohawk Chief. He later became the leader of the Iroquois Confederacy. The poem "The Song of Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is not about the historic Hiawatha but was named for him. Is this movie based on the poem or is it about the real Hiawatha and his beloved Deganawidah?

@Peeres70 Yes, it is. It is the beginning of "Hiawatha's Departure" but they didn't use all of it. A good thing they didn't because in the poem Hiawatha thanks the black robes for coming, and then he gives them permission to take over the land.
