  • Ummmmm that is awesome, wish that was my grandpa!

  • You have to learn to juggle before you can knife fight. Then you have to learn to see both close and far away at the same time and you have to be a human being who does not like sharp objects.

  • Im not buying anything from a thai butcher from now on @@

  • looked like u had alot of fun with some good people !!!

  • that is one badass old man

  • at the end, did he drop the knife to distract him?

  • great stuff good to see where FMA first started.

  • One of the best practical Knife work out there. Nice work.

  • Guru Zainal weighs half as much as Luke... and could tore hime a few new orifices in seconds if they were both holding knives... (stop talking about kerambit, i wanna sleep tonight)

  • I hate knife fighting...just like flying...ain't no room for mistakes!

  • What a BOSS holding a cigarette he can still cut you up

  • How awesome

  • Holy shit, a karambit. I'll....just turn around and walk away. I wanna live!

  • that old dude looks like he can mince vegetables fast

  • is that a kerambit knife ?

  • great video man :d very funny too :D

  • can you show some pictures of the knifes??

    thats was nice video thanks!!

  • Teacher : "The kerambit...."

Other guy: " Really evil looking knife...hahaha"

You got that right. Any silat practitioner would know that kerambit is not a weapon to mess with. It will leave a tattered corpse behind, with guts spilling out, organs shredded to pieces, and huge scars around the body. Your opponent will be so mutilated that no one would want to give them a proper funeral.

I personally hate kerambit because I think it's inhumane. Scary weapon.

  • The "old" man is scary, better keep knives away or run

  • very nice!!!!! i love this style!!!

  • That last move was cool. The old master drops one knife....then slices your throat when you "stop paying attention" :-)

  • Awesome video man. I'd love to get out there myself.

  • I can see thay use chi sao?

  • Do not fuck with the elderly, they will slice your bollocks of without you even knowing it!

  • @themanitasdeplomo Damn straight, the old fighters have to be good, otherwise why would they have lived so long?

  • Impressive.

  • There's a lot of similarities in Southeast Asian Knife techniques because there were a lot of cross-cultural influences (e.g. Majapahit Empire) which affected them all.

  • hey dude try the philippines! us marines adopted the knife tactics in the philippines!

  • proud of being an Asian. We fucking cool at martial art :D

  • Holy shit I am from Malaysia I don't even know where to learn the art of Kerambit...Damn...can you recommend me good ones in KL/Selangor?

  • @calebkw yeah check out Guru Jak or Guru Wan from Silat Harimau Berantai!

  • @TeamWuJin waaaw..silat harimau berantai..that's a good one

  • i thought srikandi is from indonesia culture, cuz i never find one in maay culture

  • @tegartegar Tun Fatimah and Siti Kalsom are Malay Srikandi. Back then, there is no such thing as Indonesia and Malaysia. Even Malays found it's root in Sumatera, now in Indonesia. Malaysia and Indonesia exist because of Anglo-Dutch treaty. So, there is a lot of similarities between Malaysia-Indonesia cultures.

  • hahahah dropping the one knife and cut with the other :D

  • this is awesome :D

  • FUCK UFC - There needs to be Ultimate Knife Fighting!

  • Interesting. He does seem to know his knife technique.

  • right...so...the skinny, old guy with a mustache that looks like a Colombian drug dealer and is casually puffing his ciggy while freely flailing around a razor-sharp device...yea that guy. don't fuck with him. LOL!

    Very nice. thanks for posting.

  • i realy respect this kinds of teknicks - but who comes with an knife to a street fight is an asshole! it can distroy your live for ever

    take it fair

  • what do you do if are facing a group of 20 people?

  • @DLgamer55 make em lesser

  • @DLgamer55

toss a grenade and get the fuck out of there

  • @darknavar- karambit

  • what is the name of the knife with the hooked blade? I like that style of blade i just cant find out what the name of that knife is called. Can anyone help me?

  • Yo Luke, that old man was one slick ass kicker.

  • What does the old man do at the end? He drops one knife for distraction? Thats awesome!

  • @goliathlup1 sort of, at the end he cut luke vena jungular (which is lethal blow >.<)

  • they obviously malay not thai nor siamese

  • @tapap1990 You are right, they are not thai or siamese..The forms came from the Malay State of Fattani which is now in Thailand ..the Malays in the peninsular classify it as Thai..which rightfully should be from the Malay state in Thailand if its recognise that way.or we can also say from the stateless Malays who resided in South Thailand!

  • luke is this a thai knife fighting? he use malayan langguage >.< @all about the loose grip: I noticed him saying srikandi<<it is a female character, I guess he just show U one style only and perhaps he know another style (female style grip, I guess) . man I think he is a true master, teaching with a cigarette in one hand and unbalanced a big guy like luke in his age @.@

  • @MrSolitude14 that's cos he is Malay but spent a long time in Thailand and just sharing with me :-)

  • @MrSolitude14 haha malays and thais are like cousins..and srikandi is not really a character , srikandi means female warrior in malay

  • @sdurgefafd are u malay. if right, u forgot your history. enough. thats what happento sepak raga jaring become takraw.

  • Great stuff here Guru Luke. :)

  • this is a perfect example of why no ONE fighting style is the best... luke is the fucking man at what he does but i think those guys could take him down if they were using just their fighting style... it always depends on the person not the style i think... luke dude your still the man at what you do personally i think your style has more take down effect then theirs ... theirs is more of a imma kill you real quick...

  • That guy was cool (I got a kick out of seeing the cigarette in his hand), & he was obvioiusly fluent w/ the knife. Never seen those kinds of knives before (thanks Luke & Youtube!), so that was a cool discovery. Good times, & fun to learn.

  • I love Muay Thai but not so much Thai knife fighting it just looks more flashy than practical also if I get into a knife fight my blade has to have a hand guard where the knife meets the handle so if the enemies blade slides down my steel it stops at the guard and does not slice and dice my hand!

  • @PEREZCHOOCH the style they are using are really fluid i really think using a hand guard would just hinder that since it would get stuck in your hand when switching the knife to a different position, and i think that block a knife with another knife is a hard thing to do id rather block the enemy with a knife with a palm just like in this video or forearm with his forearm :D

  • Wow. How many languages do you speak?

  • @kasem1065 no enough ;-)

  • I know the "old Man", the looseness is not in the grip but in the wrist..his system starts with open hand techniques and clenching & enforcing the grip upon impact & contact..He has made known to all his students, street fighting is a different scene and to know street fighting is to be involved in the streets..according to him fighting in he streets is fighting without rules & civil order!!! He believes in Luke Holloways system compared to many!!

  • @share6zain you are right, he said that many times over the weekend (regarding martial training compared to tha khaos of street fighting). The 'old man' (who's name is clearly stated I might add...) does know his shit! (so to speak) ;-)

  • Awesome video,, thats knife looks like Kerambit ? are very similar .. but without the Ring... onlye the curve.. :P

  • you know that old man is the shit when he was able to rock a guy more that half his age and twice his size,

  • Thank you. Very interesting, He was boss!

Particularly interested in the very loose grip and wrist.

How do they guarantee weapon retention in the chaos of combat with hits to the hand or arm, jarrings and hangups on bone etc.?

Seems like a very risky style.

I assume they put chi into snapping impacts but that still assumes no unexpected problems... and a dangerous enemy will do his best to provide those!

Would you mind elucidating the philosophy and practice of this looseness?

  • @danielskipp1 I don't believe I'm in a position to do so, but just remember, this is a 5min clip outta 4/5days with him.. his Kuntau, Silat and Muay Thai make up for whatever may be 'missing' in this 'system'. I gave a lecture on tactical knife work (which I will post next week I guess) and he said thank you, those are things we've never had to consider (simply because of his occupation etc). But ANY style is risky if you hesitate and don't commit to the assault. It's not ALWAYS loose...

  • @TeamWuJin and you have to remember, this is to be considered a preview. How are you gonna learn a system from a 5min video on youtube?? Impossible, regardless of your level.. there's always things going on behind the scenes ;-) I edited this purposely to leave out many elements I know Guru Zainal would appreciate being kept a little more private. options.. 1) appreciate it for what is it 2) Ignore it and train whatever suits you

  • @TeamWuJin

Thanks for the reply, Luke, appreciated.

I for myself really want to feel comfortable with his style. it is similar to mine allready! but don;t feel safe with a loose grip. I train as loose as poss but if it for real I would deffo grip tight whenever closing. worst thing [other than being sparko'd! ;-D ] would be to lose grip on a blade in combat...

The infamous Erle Montaigue teaches the same very loose grip but he scoffs at disarms other than defanging. I go for middle way ;-D

  • @danielskipp1 im going to have to agree with Luke on this one, but from what I have learned in the weapons training in my arts is that the grip is loose in transitions to promote speed but tightens on contact ( whether it's a strike or a block/parry). Also the grip remains loose but firm with the pinky and ring finger remaining secure. So seeing in a video without actually experiencing it I can't say the same about Silat but I think they may have the same principles.

  • Awsome video, thanks for sharing it. Always interesting to see an old school master at work. :-)

  • you know a big reason why i love to see your videos? it is fascinating how, being aware of how dangerous you can be, how secure of yourself you are (and i apply this to the other man in this vid too and other people in your videos), the humility you and other martial arts masters possess. There is no such thing as "getting a big head" with you people, it truly fascinates me, the ego is not present even in the slightest bit... it leads me to question how it came to be, this is very uncommon.Great

  • @inkheart1198 A comment I truly appreciate, thank you kindly :-)

  • @TeamWuJin I totally echo inkhear1198's sentiments. I've subscribed to your vids for a while and have always appreciated your 'real life' approach. I study Systema mainly, but love all martial arts and try to apply whatever works. We say as many do to 'eat the hay and spit out the sticks'. Thanks for sharing so much and doing it so humbly. It's awesome how you come to learn from others and are not afraid to look like a nubie; which we have to be in order to learn. You are a great example.

  • Hey old man! gimme everything I have a knife see? Hey don´t take my knife OHMYYYYYYYYYYGOD (bleeds)

  • APPLAUSE Great Vid Love this old guy.

  • You are living the dream, Luke! Wish I had done what you're doing now in my youth.

  • thats a good teacher

  • i have a friend muslims but he drink a lot....nice tecnique always...

  • This older guy is worth taking ou,t have a few pints and listen to his stories. Am i wrong? =)

  • @robin6512 not wrong, but Muslims don't drink. I offered him one and he politely refused.

But we spent a lot of time together and yeah.. I learned a lot! :-)

  • @TeamWuJin Shoot, should have know that. Good to her you enjoyed yourself. stay save

  • @TeamWuJin mate just wondering if you could possibly do more knife defence videos if possible because i have been threatened with knives 3 or 4 times this year and am worried that i will get stabbed

  • @woolies9494 sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I won't have time this month, catching up on some work but please go to my channel and scroll through the videos, there are TONS of videos on knife defence here, good luck.

  • @TeamWuJin ok thanks heaps mate, good luck with the work

  • @woolies9494 Dude just check the channel, click over there where it says TeamWuJin and you´ll see TONS of videos about defending from knives and attacking with keys, umbrellas and your bare hands, plus desarming knives, biting, spiting and most of all bash it, bash, bash that shit.
