i am stuck in Indiana and am working really hard to move hm it take lots of money and i no longer have family to help out ...i am hoping to get home in the next year but i started this post to thank u for posting the beauty that is the desert . i can not weight to get hm ...thank u Sharlina {hicks } Allen..panthersruby29a@yahoo.com
i was born in palm springs and raised in DHS and i left when i went to collage and then i joined the army ..i have wanted to move hm , i think once a desert rat always a desert rat and in the last few years i have been told that for health reasons that i need to move back hm .
Isn't the desert great. Except for a couple of months out of the year, the weather is perfect. And if you have a pool or can find one, even those two months are great. The only draw back I guess is nice blue cloud free sky 255 days a year. Winter is absolutely fabulous. We have our doors and windows wide open most months, breakfast on the patio. Just a perfect place to be.
I actually find spiders and other bugs interesting (no one would know it by looking at me - a girly girl) but black widows and such aren't my thing! You have a very interesting profile. I would definitely look you up if I come. In the process of deciding where to spend a month this winter. P.S. I'm in Kansas City, and the Chiefs are...well....not doing so great, as you know....
As things go, I hope you can reach out here to Gods country this winter. How many of you coming out? When wooul you be coming? Anyway it would be nice to meet someone interesting like you from the midwest nad all. make sure you tell me the deal in time so I can have a little program to treat you to if you come.
I lived in the DHS for half a year and I must say all our neighbours where very special. To live in the middle of nowhere means you must be some kind of different to others. To be honest, I had a fantastic time. The property where I stayed was the Hollywood of the old days.
Did you stay at the B Bar H ranch? I was in Desert Sun with other neighbors to repair historical landmark. An upright to a sign for the ranch made of rocks. Plenty of Movie stars lived at this ranch when they came to the desert...
I moved to the Unincorperated part of Riverside county just south of DHS and north of Palm Springs and it is a calmly quiet area, but i have lived only 2 months over here.
I lived in that exact area. Are you familiar with the Brownstown gang? If not, you probably haven't noticed them. They tag BTL all over the Southern and Unincorporated parts of Desert Hot Springs.
@docsxm No disrespect to DHS, but it is a troubled city; it's getting better, but still not there. Every city south of the Interstate is, well, less crime ridden. DHS is pretty, though, especially on the north side.
Since that one sighting I have not seen any. Neighbors claim to have seen a few over same time period. Please do not worry about the remote possibility that you will run into one.
I have seen one in the past two months, but the neighbors small dog was bitten by a rattlesnake a month ago. I can imagine there is a considerable amount of non venomous snakes in the area.
They are around but I haven't seen them either, To tellyou the ttrtuth I ain't lookin in their space to find them. When you come for the getaway look me up?
@Suzanne42 Black widows and scorpions are both very reclusive creatures. The spiders are usually found in the corners of garages, and it's easy to kill one when you spot it. I've never known of anyone to get bitten by a BW--apparently, it takes some effort for them to be able to bite a human. My wife got stung by a scorpion a few years back--a VERY unusual event--and it was really no big deal. Funny the desert has a rep for snakes; we have no more of them than anywhere else.

Not a lot. The only critters that I would worry about are Black Widows and Scorpions.

Black widows and scorpions? Holy cow, and I thought snakes were scary! lol I'm gonna look elsewhere for my 1-month getaway this winter.
