  • who are those assholes disliking this...

  • Incredible and transporting too, thank you for posting.

  • LOVELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kya tau baat hy khan sb!!

  • I wish I had some weed with me now.

  • @BoogieDownBiggee30 no need for weed iam flying.

  • I love his interpretation of this raag - w/ just an occasional hint of ma shuddh, but mostly tivra - ie, almost pure yaman. I think he's greater now than Khansaheb Vilayat Khan, bless his memory. That the son exceed the father should be seen as no offense to the accomplishments of the elder - this is a living tradition!

Ah, but how I wish I'd been there!

  • love it, love it!!!

  • I feel bad because i just laughed so hard.

  • nectar

  • i have got some bad news for those who havent heard him live.........

HE IS EVEN BETTER THAN THIS LIVE !!! is it possible ?

  • since i have got this lap top i must have hear this rag yaman in this sitar recital when he sings with his voice so much in sur toba toba thankyou khan sahib

  • I cannot resist the desire to listen again and again to this masterly performance. My previously recorded opinion does not adequately convey a critical analysis of this performance. May you continue performing like this, Ustad Shujaat Khan Saheb.

  • Superb performance! He goes directly to 'Drut Laye'. This not an easy task and requires mastery of the intial 'swaras'.

  • Great!!!

  • What is the guy behind him playing? I thought it was tanpura at first but what is he doing with his left hand if it is tanpura?

  • @frakfeem mohan veena a.k.a. slide guitar

  • @frakfeem That is a student of his playing the Slide Guitar. I was at this concert.

  • If possible load it's next clip. Want to hear more of it.

  • This is the best yaman kalyan playing I have ever seen in my ignorant life... This guy is underrated... Like most greats...

  • this is very high number of clasic, thanks from Ustado ka ustad Sujaat sahab and from you please kamalydar khan sahab.dr.mokamel from Holland

  • oohhh wow ....i just bought his CALL OF THE RIVER C.D.....this guy is dangerous,

  • a kid at my school is playing this for our upcoming talent show.

    it is an amazing instrument.

  • thats instrument is maaaaad:L

  • wow!

  • amazing. wonderful

  • *kamalhyder*, a YouTube channel up loaded this remarkable Sitar Recital by Ustad by Ustad Shujaat Khan. A superb performance, indeed. Thanks for kusuksharmaajmer for sending me this NOVEL item. Khalid Asghar, former Station Director, Radio Pakistan, lahore & Music Analyst. (30-09-2009)

  • Magical. About a decade ago I attended a recital by him in Cambridge, Massachusetts. There are very few musicians who can sing a raga and play it on an instrument with equal mastery. He is one of them. Thanks, Khalid Bhai, and thanks to kamalhyder for the upload.

  • Thanks dear *chamogaa*, Vipin Bhai. Khalid Asghar.

  • cool, he like an indian Mixalis Tzouganakis. =]=]=]

  • oh my god! mad mad skills!!!

  • Ich denke, und sage eifach SUPER,denn ich mag Classic Music.

  • i would commit suicide listening to such good music..

    ..nice music

  • @deoman99 haha not the reaction most people have to beauty, but nevertheless I understand your appreciation of it

  • It's a powerful trance, like salvia..

  • he'll beat santana if he play the electric guitar lolz

  • Yes, Yes, yes!! It's really a great treat for your eyes and ears if you attend his live concert. I went to his live concert in April 2008 in Boston. He performed in a music festival, His sitar concert was the highlight of the festival. he is SUPERB. Must attend concert. looking forward to another one. WaHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

  • Amazing. Watching him live must be a trip!

  • Zindabad Wah .Kia Baat Hay

  • two tabla players is so hypnotic

  • i agree the fact that two tabla's are playing adds so much to the feel of this raag. They sound like a drone under the sitar

  • Near the end it looks like all the musicians are going double speed, not just the playing but their gestures, everything.

  • ApocalypseKid. It should be Kya Baat Hai to be as close as possible to the actual pronounciation. It means "what can be said" (about the excellence) in the context of praising a performance.

  • He is the illustrious son of Late Vilayat Khan Sahib. I had the good fortune of knowing them both. Just to be in their presence would be an experience. When they played duets, it was an incredible chemistry. In Sitar playing no one has come close to bringing so much peace, happiness, style, humility and fine music as Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahin and his Gharana.

God Bless the Late ustad and his children.

  • Hello KDKAPOOR, don't let your emotions cloud your musical judgment. Vilayat was anything but humble, openly boasting that he was the best and critizing another far better than he. His gharana is inferior, his music is inferior and his instrument is technically inferior than the kharaj sitar.

  • Dear Char7171. Your thoughtful comments speak for themselves. I do know other Gharanas and they too have wonderful musicians. The first thing I learnt was that when we mention the name of a teacher, we do that with reverence. Music flows to others not only from hard work, but also from blessings from the great masters.

You are free to express yourself. I am not capable of maligning anyone from any Gharana or style.

  • Hello KDKAPOOR, musicians can only be judged on their own merits and not because of their guru, gharana or anything else. Unfortunately, Vilayat was quite conceited in this respect although I like some of his pieces and some of Shujaat's. I also saw Hidayat in Venice but he is a mediocre player(and so is Anouskha). Unfortunately in India, caste dictates who is successful in life.

  • Ouch man, enough with the cheep shots. Who cares what you think if you can't do anything but criticize people?

  • look who is talkin about criticism!!!

  • His name is Machine. Dude enjoy the music and give him a name.

  • it was beautiful!! we need to agree on how to spell kia bah teh. ive seen like six or seven different ways and I dont know which is right?! kya bath heh ... kya baat hai.. kia bah teh. does anyone know!

  • I believe Hindi or any Indian language when written in English are all spelled phonetically so you will see several ways of spelling quite a few words. None are "right" because if they were right, they would be written in Hindo or another launguage. :) Trying to search out Rais Khan videos, many non-english speakers often spell his name Raees Khan. This is at least my understand, just spell them as close to phonetically as possible when in doubt. Heh. I'm still very new in Indian music though.

  • I think it is a mistake palying with 2 tablas. One tabla is much louder than the sitar so 2 tablas are overpowering and makes everything very noisy. What we want in Indian Music is melodic clarity not Western polyphony.

  • I agree, great music though

  • who is this tabla player anyone know hes like a machine!!

  • Accompanying Khansahib on two tablas are Arunanghsu Chaudhury and Shankar Devnath.

  • @kamalhyder pls post more of this

  • wah, kya bath heh

  • wow,great

  • Subhan Allah! Brilliant!

  • kya baat hai.

  • AFAREEEEEEEEEN

  • WAH!

  • Yaar Kiya baat hai....... Shujahat Khan and Rais Khan are the most melodies and lyrical players. Great music and tone.

  • Yes, Shujaat Khan, Rais Khan, Shahid Parwez, Imrat Khan, Kartick & Niladri Kumar, Nishat Khan, Irshad Khan, Budhaditya Mukherjee, Kushal Das, Subroto Roy Chowdhury ... the list is endless. All are stars on the fimament of sitarheaven where Vilayat and Nikhil rests assured that the tradition is alive and well. I'm aware that the list can be longer but these are my favourites that comes to my mind. And there's also other instruments and Dhrupad and Khayal also, of course.

  • thanks a lot kamalhyder ji for posting yaman kalyan

  • Look at him how much he enjoys his music! Indian ragas are great spiritual means for the inner peace!

  • wow what a bandish! what a playing!....... this is immortal......... Live long Shujatbhai

  • well done shujatbhai :-)

  • He's so awesome! He is a maestro.

  • aeso sughara sundar balamwa ! immortal Ustad Amir Khan bandish !
