@TheAmyflamy the first one was really good, and was interesting cause no film had been shot like that one before. Also the marketing was genius because it was portrayed as "real", with various TV specials. It played with layers of reality and leaves the film to be examined as a piece of evidence. Since this it was pre-internet, people couldn't just google if it was real or not so thats why so many were hooked.

As a sequel to The Blair Witch Project, Blair Witch 2 was terrible...we fans expected something better. (IMO, there really wasn't a way to make a direct follow-up to the events in Blair Witch). But as a stand-alone movie, it's really not as bad as some have said. There's such a creepy vibe to this film; it's so surreal. The casting was good, the screenplay wasn't bad (except for a touch of hokiness), the performances solid (especially at the end), and Kim and Erica are very hot.

It was pretty bad, but there were some interesting ideas and the end result was different from what the director wanted because the movie company wanted it to be more mainstream in style.

Apparently the directors of the first film were only executive producers for this one, they didn't get much say in what went on and actually were extremely dissapointed in the final product. One of them apparently complains about the changes made all throughout the commentary. I haven't seen this but I am interested to see how they made it more "commercial".

The first movie wasn't actual footage either, it was just a movie with actors. It was based on supposedly real facts is all. I have never really read much about the myths surrounding the Blair Witch much but I think I'm going to. I have seen the second one when I was about 12 and I was so scared, but I haven't watched it as an adult but I agree it does not look as good as the first, that still scares me :(
