Sad thing is that if this video came out now, some PC poser would probably try to have it banned because it is sending a bad message that excessive drunkedness is cool....
This song is about an alkie. If you listen to the begining, picture a guy in a restless sleep(breathing heavy) anicipating the alarm going off. When it does,he can't wait to have some hair of the dog and start it all over again."6 o;clock gotta have Beaujolasis ,8 o'clock, I open up some Pouilly-Fuiss" Another great song from the X-static album. Can't find it? Should have bought it 30 years ago like I did!
That's funny - there was a band on Long Island in the late 70's called Clockwork who did this song as well. Friends of mine who were good musicians. The intro music that leads into this song is called Hallofon and both songs are on the X-Static LP
Wow! Never knew this existed! one of my favorite songs from that album - if there's a video of it, that means this song was released as a single? How big a hit was it?
It was never released as a stand alone single. It was part of a 12" single with "No Brain, No Pain", "Number One" and "Bepop/Drop". The only actual singles from "X-Static" were "Rumnning From Paradise" and "Wait For Me".
Thanks for the info! Rather odd that there were only two singles off that album - it's really, really good! Number One, Intravino, Radio, those are all great songs!
Hey TCMuse. Thanks for posting this very rare video! Anyone out there know if there is a video for "I'm Just a Kid (Don't Make Me Feel Like a Man)" or "Ennui on a Mountain?" Probably not. But I bet they'd be cool...
I don't think you keep a business relation going that long in the music business if you aren't friends. They have drifted apart over the last 10 years or so - working more with other artists and song writers, but I believe they are still great friends.
Very cool song off the X-static album, that I just love that part when Daryl crosses his eyes & says that line: "six o' clock, gotta have _ _" or something, cuz i didn't quite know what he said. Daryl so cute!!! That i can't believe daryl was 33yrs. old in that video, cuz to me he looks more like he's 15yrs. old!!! cuz eventhough he's 60 now, and looks like he's 40, and still don't look his age. Sometimes i think of Daryl as peter pan, cuz he always still look young for his age etc.
Actually, since Daryl was born on 10/11/46, and this video along with the other X-Static videos were shot around October 2, 1979 (as referred to in the H&O biography Dangerous Dances) that would make Daryl on the verge of turning 33.
My Billboard book "Joel Whitburn's top pop singles 1955-2002" says Daryl Hall was born in 1948. What is your source that says 1946? The bio? If so and if the bio is authorised, I will write the Billboard book about their error.
It's been verified by Lori Allred at hallandoates com, the official website. Also, Daryl's mother has confirmed that he was born in 1946, so you can't get more official than that. :-)
Great, thanks, I will notify the book of the error. My guess is they probably got the wrong info from some manager type who had an interest in wanting people to think Hall was younger. I don't know why the it seems the only H&O DVDs for sale are concerts...it seems not even the common concept videos are for sale, and especially not cool rare ones like this. I have Hall's 4 solo albums on CD, too... it's be great to be able to buy the videos of "Dreamtime," "Foolish Pride," "...Philly Mood" etc.
I cannot believe I'm seeing this! I wish I could see ALL the X-Static videos! Bravo, tcmuse! Just wish the quality was better. This song & video is a prime example of why I dig Hall & Oates so much, aside from their music - their SENSE OF HUMOR, which you would never know from their last couple of albums. And now they're doing a Xmas album - that's just wonderful. Anyway, thanks again, holmes! You made my day!

Don't even think about looking for this song on any of their compliation albums, because this hardly topped on the charts.

This song was performed by a cover band at a bar called the Gables in Margate back in the late 70's. Have not heard it since..thanks for posting!

I have a 45 of "Who Said the World Was Fair" so I think we can add that to the X-Static single list as well.

"Wait For Me" hit #18 on Billboard Hot 100. Daryl has said it might have charted near the top if it was on the Voices album.

Even in this blurry transfer, Daryl's skinny rock-boy hotness shines through. He's so hot in this, he could ride the L train to Williamsburg!
