  • They earned a 3? This must be when UIL held bands to a true standard. They all seem to get a division 1 rating now a days.

  • I was a member of this band and played the Summertime solo. Was it really that long ago? I was not a very good player then.

  • Musical selections:

First Suite in E-flat: III. March by Gustav Holst

English Folk Song Suite: I. March "Seventeen Come Sunday" by Ralph Vaughan Williams

"Summertime" from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin

No clue what the fourth movement is...

"Ol' Man River" from Show Boat by Jerome Kern

  • @quijeros

Hey Jeremy. Isn't this from like the Blue Devils 1976 park n' bark movement? i found it online and it's called Legend of the One-eyed Sailor.

  • @rocketfan86 Wow, you're right. By Chuck Mangione. If I still watched that Classic Countdown DVD any, I might've recognized it.

  • I would have definitely given them a 1. I've seen much worse bands get a 2.

  • @CaptDouchebag

This is the second year marching corps style. The region at the time was predominantly military-style. I think a major concern was the fact that one movement the band just "parked and barked."

  • Are you saying this performance earned them a 3rd place or a 3?

  • @CaptDouchebag

They earned a division 3 rating (good) by Texas UIL Standards.
