This is still happening unfortunately. Last year (09) my husband's friend was arrested and held for several months as soon as he arrived at the airport coming from the Usa. He had not been home in many years and he spent several months in Algerian jail without charge and upon his release he left immediately to return to the U.S. Of course he will probably never return to his homeland after that.
