@Rajendranization So this song has united four of us, myself, Mr Azbyrajan, yourself and Mr Chandramouli, son of the great Pulavar Ramamurthy. The net is good. Dr Bhatt was pratising in North Andar street after finishing his MBBS. Where are you now, where is Dr Bhatt now? Can you reply?
@azbyrajan and @ Sivasuresh: Nithilam is also known as Muthu... and My father is asking you guys if you have understood the meaning now :) He still clearly remembers the bunch of students asking him the meaning... He wishes you all a very healthy and lovely life...
I and my friends (10th and 11 grade) use to debate what is the meaning of these lines. complicated meaning no straight answers. Obviously we did not understand the sensuous undertones at that age.
In fact I remember even asking my Tamil teacher Ramamurti sir, he looked at us strangely and said "Pongada, Po, artham ellam apparam therium" :-)
@azbyrajan Do you mean the great Pulavar Ramamurthy or E.R HSS Trichy? He was the one who could talk that way to students. He would refer a lot of contemporary Tamil cinemas while teaching Tamil. I am from Trichy and I studied in St Josephs and ER from 1977 to 84 . Any way ,great movie, great music , great lyrics, great acting. Thank you to the uploader.
@azbyrajan Nice knowing you, Anna, You are my senior from the golden days. I also studied in St. Josephs from 1977 to 1982 and went to ER as there was no English Medium in St Josephs. Are you from Mr (later Dr) Bhatt's batch ? He scored school first in SSLC.
@SIVARAMSURESH yes, i am from Ravichandra Bhatt's Batch. I and he both studied in St Joseph in 10th in diff sections. he was in English medium and i was in Tamil medium but both moved to ER for lack of English medium for +2.
it is funny that though he was in English medium and he got first in SSLC i beat him in English. he got 92 and i got 94. Hilarious.
@TheAravindgiri My previous post did not appear. I think your explanation is not fully correct. Sippi"yil" NOT sippi"ilirundu" which would mean "from"
I think it means: a drop of rain, which is just a drop of water, has "escaped" from being just a drop of water when it got "into" the oyster to start a new life.

@TheAravindgiri I dissagree. Silppi"yil" thappia NOT sippi"iliundu" thappiya. so your explanation that it is "Pearl that has escaped ****from*** the oyster" seems to be wrong.
My guess is this. a Drop of water Is a drop of water. But when it gets into a oyster it actually "escapes" from being a drop of water and becomes a new life of a pearl. So even though it is getting arrested inside "sippi**yil**" the oyster it is escaping in a sense.
can anyone tell me the meaning of "sippiyil thappiya nithilame , ragasiya raathiri puththagame". Donot give me literal meaning...what does the poet imply, or what is the metaphor mean.
how can a drop of water "nithilam" **escape / thapipiya** inside a sippy? shouldn't it be equivalent of "arrested" or got into / adaindha/ niraindha" instead of escape?
@rdhinakar: This song is based in Vasantha. The notes you mentioned are wrong. In the song Shuddha madhyamam and Chathushruthi dhaivatham is used (M1 and D2). thanks
Request music composers (?) of these days to take this song as an inspiration. Try to bring more melodies like this. Anybody there up to the challenge?
Beats me.. how could anyone dislike this song... and its not one.. but two folks..

This movie came when I was in 10th grade. I and my friend T.Murali saw this after finals with the pocket money saved over several months.
